Both can be true, and in this case they both are. Even if John is correct in pointing out that the current state of tranny discourse is doing them no favors, that doesn't change the fact that he's not speaking out from any altruistic standpoint because John has never once cared about anyone other than himself. And even if tranny "rights" got rolled back, John himself would probably be fine overall since he has a rich husband to handle all his needs and he lives in one of the faggiest blue states around, so he's not even really doing this out of self-interest. At worst, horror of horrors, he'd have to go to the men's room if he traveled out of state sometimes!

John really only cares insomuch as he wants to use it for yet another grift where he can position himself as the most important man in the room. Unfortunately, he's grossly overestimated his own importance and underestimated how sick and tired the general public is with troonery as a whole, and as a result, he's alienating himself from every side of the spectrum. It's wonderful to watch.
