Brianna Wu / John Walker Flynt - "Biggest Victim of Gamergate," Failed Game Developer, Failed Congressional Candidate

Brianna, stop wordsmithing in order to make the plight of real homeless kids your own. The timeline shows that you weren't homeless until 2007, if in fact you were even homeless at all. THAT MAKES YOU 30 FUCKING YEARS OLD.

If most people's parents stop talking to them when they are 30, they don't become homeless. They tend to have jobs and an ability to care for themselves.

Fuck you, Brianna. There are real suffering kids out there. You were not out on the street. You were coddled by your parents until you were 30. You've been coddled by Frank since about age 30 or 31.

Is this the first we've heard of Wu being adopted?

No, he's been lying about it for quite a while.

Like the petulant teenager he is, he started claiming that he was adopted after his parents kicked him off the gravy train when he was in his late twenties. Before he had the name changed on his birth certificate, the state of Virginia listed him as being born to Dr. and Mrs. Flynt in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1977.

He was not adopted. But he can't reveal that his parents kicked him to the curb after paying for ten years of college, a pricey unpaid internship in D.C., and $200,000 poured into the open sewer that was Socially Unconscious. He took them to the cleaners and expected them to fund his unemployed existence for the rest of their lives. When they declined, he started claiming that they were gay-hating monsters who tortured him and finally cut him off when he told them that he's a bisexual woman, which must have struck his parents as odd, what with him being a man at the time.

One of my hopes is that Wu gets some mainstream press before the election. Mainly because it will make it worthwhile for a right-leaning site to do a really deep dive into her past. Like I have to imagine that someone is going to contact her parents and find out what the real story is. And with how much she has shit talked them, they may be willing to provide some info.

you're comic sans, john.jpg

John, if you had taken (and passed) a typography class, you might actually have enough credit hours to have gotten a degree after ten years.

You also wouldn't have used Alien League all over Rev60 promo materials and "joked" about using it in a campaign ad. (it wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to use it here and throw tacky lighting effects on top of it)

semi-::offtopic:
death to alien league.jpg

Top is the real thing, bottom is Alien League, with the tacky alternate capital I. Aliens probably used Univers Thin Ultra Condensed. see also the posters for Star Trek: First Contact. (which John didn't see because it didn't have Janeway in it)
I have never taken a typography class but I can use Google.

edit: did he use Comic Sans in Socially Unconscious?
someone had to mansplain this to john.jpg

A 2-bit fraud like Wu isn't worth anything right now. If Wu actually got somewhere... started showing any headway in the polls, something like that, then it would be a story to blow the campaign apart.

No one cares about vanity campaigns. Well, until they become Presidents...

Fact check of Wu's font claim: there is no specific requirement from the FEC on what fonts to use.
https://www.fec.gov/regulations/110-11/2017-annual-110#110-11-c-3
The regulations state that the disclaimer must be "clearly readable", which is defined only in terms of size and contrast (and time onscreen, for video)

Amusingly, John is also legally required to include either video of himself reading the "I approve this message" disclaimer, or provide a voice-over with a large "photographic or similar image". I wonder if he's going to commission a "similar image" from some artist (maybe a fanciful Wall Street Journal-style pencil drawing?) to avoid showing his real face to the voters.

Well, that would be the smart thing to do-- so no, I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm guessing he finds more stock footage of a woman with a motorcycle and puts his voice over that. Or Wu forgets about the disclaimer entirely.

John is complaining about a rule that keeps political campaign ads from putting text in obscure formats and otherwise hiding it to conceal the source of funding for ads.

Why would John be opposed to rules like that?

I suspect this ad is just going to be a neutered (phrasing!) version of what Brianna and Frank actually want to produce. I would much rather see the earlier cuts of whatever dreck gets released (assuming anything gets released) because I'm sure it would be far more entertaining and inflammatory. Sadly, Wu will probably just hint at it for Twitter likes, saying something like, "Campaign staff won't let me burn Lynch in effigy. So you get this instead."

Any word on whether Natalie O'Brien is her chief of staff?

Anywhooo.

Wu's goal is to troll Lynch into acknowledging her. As others have discussed here, Lynch is brilliant to just keep pretending she doesn't exist... because ultimately, she doesn't. Not in any way that matters. His voters will be loyal because he lives in the district, because he listens to their concerns, because he works for their interests and so on.

Wu is an idiot, so she's already shown her hand in the most straightforward way, Tweeting to Lynch, mentioning how she was making attack ads about him, and just coming off as a gigantic marine isopod if a gigantic marine isopod were an asshole.

Where's the feminist ad? Where's the cybersecurity ad? For the love of all of the popcorn in the world, where's the Lynch attack ad complete with Frank dancing around in a monster fetish suit?

This is no doubt :optimistic: to the extreme, but is it possible the ad is done, at least in some raw form if not fully edited, and in a rare moment of clarity John and Frank have watched it and realize, "Oh, shit, we can't release this, we'll look like crazy people."?

Of course, since everyone on this thread is salivating to see this marvel, from our point of view that possibility maybe isn't so optimistic after all.
