So, someone asked "what experience do you guys have in making websites? I don't want to give my money to someome who has no experience" and to that extremely valid question they just said "we wouldn't take people's money if we didn't know what we were doing"
Mother fucker, they asked for what websites you've done in the past and I'm pretty sure they wanted examples and you just say "SHUT UP I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING"

i stand with the general consensus of wanting to see this thing become legitimate, at least for the potential entertainment value it could bring. then again its not even a bare bones web page yet and in my humble opinion its already bringing a decent amount of lulz via the work team.

Oh yeah, if they actually manage to get off the ground the amount of trolling that will go on will be astounding like our grandkids will talk about it

I'm going to assume that she somehow roped in some programmers as well as the half dozens artists she somehow got to work for free but I checked their staff page and apparently they have no programmers so Dear Leader must be flying solo on this one or she forgot to update the staff page.
For some reason everyone with an idea always thinks they're going to find lots of programmers to do what they assume must be the rather inconsequential task of programming their idea. Even look at job sites there are always a handful of people trying to pay a programmer or tech worker near minimum wage often so they can hire an h1b after the position doesn't fill but I saw some that were so insulting I almost wanted to smack the shit out of whoever posted it "Imagine this is your day!.....[busy day of driving all over and solving baffling problems on time or else and being available at midnight]... so if you're that awesome motivated special sort of person" and the dude thought he was going to pay someone like 12/hr for it. I saw another one who for some reason wanted a C programmer with 8 years of experience for 20... to 21 dollars an hour.

Also these projects are almost always stupid as fuck.

Considering how much money they got I wonder what their budget would be to hire a programmer. Dear Leader had told everyone that as long as they got funded her parents would pay for the hosting so I suppose they'd have to put the money towards finally paying the artists and hiring a programmer.
Actually I'd laugh so hard if all the artists got pissed and left and now Dear Leader is fiddly fucking around on her own

What's with the B.s. Poll that they have now?
Why can't they /provide/ the things that were promised to the backers?
I dunno about you guys, well you would most likely agree with me by saying that they're the most unprofessional, and incompetent team of *Ahem* "Site Owners/Staff members" that I have ever come across.
Also; Can't they get into serious trouble for 'fraud' on Indie GoGo?
I don't think I read any cases about anyone getting into trouble, But if they blew all their money, then no one will be stupid enough to fund them twice.
And their reputation= Destroyed.

I *think* they could realistically be sued for fraud (or just Dear Leader could because she's the ringleader and everyone else just draws shit) but I'm not 100% sure because I'm not really sure how Indiegogo and Canadian sueing laws work, would the person sueing also have to be in Canada? Canadians almost never sue each other so I don't know if we have a court for like petty things like they have on Judge Judy

I want to clarify, it's not the other staff's fault I feel. Last time I checked she only had artists on board and they didn't really seem to have a say on what goes on the site and like I said earlier I got chewed out badly for making a suggestion like Dear Leader seemed to be honestly thinking of throwing me out in the moment I had to consult Meowthkip on what to say to make her less angry at me. And it was only Dear Leader who was angry, everyone else noped the fuck out

Suing takes time and money (which their userbase most likely doesn't have), so I wouldn't bank on them getting hit with a lawsuit. They'll just get shat on by the people who dumped money into the project.

Yeah, Probably shouldn't have blamed the entire staff team.
Sorry about that, it just annoys me that the wonderful Owner took money from people without showing any progress of it.
Canadian Law differs from the US Law yes,
I'd rather really have people be all "Well she's not really trust worthy at all...Won't donate money to her again" instead of someone filing a Law Suit.
And most likely losing said law suit.
It's just not worth it in the end.
So I guess all we can do is sit back, watch, and possibly laugh as she continues to make dumb decision after dumb decision.

I don't actually think so. The only time crowd funding sites can get in trouble is if the backers were promised specific rewards they didn't receive (like tshirts or keychain or whatever).

I do wonder where the 600 went though, if they were even able to do anything with it.

People are still angry because they were supposed to release a site consisting of what they've done so far and they haven't leading me to believe they have nothing done.
Also Dear Leader has enlisted one of the artists to answer asks now probably because Dear Leader is too busy running to Tim Hortons to spend backer money on coffee and donuts

So, the person Dear Leader put in charge of answering asks has actually given a more concise answer as to what the fuck is going on down in Briar Nexus.
They bought the domain, they got a coding company and the company stopped responding so they were going to try and recover what had already been done.
I feel super bad for the person answering the asks because they were actually super chill and I don't think they have any control as to what goes on site wise. They just do art pretty much.
I think they posted that around Christmas, some people have started asking for refunds and they said they weren't able to refund them they've spent all the money.
Thumbs up for Briar Nexus

let me guess, the coding guys took the money the briar nexus people gave 'em and put it towards making some other clients website.
It was a good excuse the first time it was used with that homestuck game, probably because it was true. but this time it feels a little cheap

And nothing of value was lost.

I will say they do appear to have bought the briarhaven.com domain, which looks like this:

...And the nexuspets.com domain, which looks a tiny bit better, but only because it's a generic "website is coming soon" picture.

I'm almost sad. I would have loved to see this actually get made, just to see how ineptly these people handled important site managing duties like buying enough server space and hiring enough mods etc etc, not to mention how they'd handle any security threats once their coding firm was no longer working for them, unless they just planned to essentially have those guys on retainer.

Speaking of which, is there any way to actually prove they hired a coding company? Or do we just have to take their word for it?

What were they actually expecting to happen when they funded this?

There is no proof they hired a coding company, the only thing we have to go off is the mod in charge of ask's word because Dear Leader was never open to the public as to what was going down behind the scenes which she absolutely should have been from day 1 considering she got a bunch of money and people want to know how it's being used.
I don't know why the coding company stopped getting back to her (assuming she hired one) but I'm guessing that either she was insane with her demands or she hired so shady ass company and they squandered the money or something. I have no idea how companies like that work keep in mind
