I just realized this looks like some hawt breeding.
I want to see the baby of this combo

A big problem a lot of pet sites have is they want to be for everyone, but that's so broad a demographic that you can't really cater to it. Like Neopets, at it's conception was for bored college students by bored college students, as the site went along it became more for bored children and pre teens and arguably that was it's most successful time (they had mcdonald's toys and toys in like toys r us toys TOYS) and after that thy stuck to that demographic but still catered to the older audience. The demographic briar nexus should be going for is the teenage to young adult tumblr crowd, it's a big enough group, old enough to have money and often times obessie enough to keep coming back.

Flight Rising is having a registration day on the 20th. You can join up and have your own dragon puppy mill. The economy is broken, so everything is dirt cheap except for, like, five super-elite items. But even really pretty dragons are easy to get. Have fun!

There is one site that is in development that looks like it has a really bright future. It's just about to go into alpha, but the developer has been super open about the dev process and everything that has been done so far looks amazing! I don't know if you guys have heard of it yet. It's ClanHeart. It's a strategy-territory-MMO-breeding-game with crafting and dress up and so much player input and it has a lot of hype. (I don't know much about the back-end of website building, but you and @Meowthkip sound like you know your stuff. ClanHeart has a Tumblr called buildingclanheart and the site itself is currently pre-alpha forums. Does it look like something to be hyped about?)

Yeah dude, I've been following Clanheart for a few months and it looks pretty neat.
Anyway, back on topic
Here is their old logo

Notice how it doesn't look too bad
Now here's their new one

Someone pointed out that it looks way less professional and they were all like "We want it to look soft a friendly"
Here is their latest fundraising attempt

And here's their past kickstarter
Big problem: little to no art showcased. I could go on about how they need to show as much art as possible for hours but other people have pointed it out.

The brown text on the logo doesn't look very nice, in my opinion. In either version. Shouldn't the text be the part you want people to focus on? So shouldn't it be bright and eye-catching?

Do they have any real designers working for them that they can ask about things like this?

I'm not sure who did the logo but I think the leader probably did the first logo. I wouldn't be able to choose colors for the logo because I am very bad at color theory. As for "real designers" I guess you mean like more skilled artists, the art for pets they make isn't bad at all but I don't know how many of them are good at color theory since we had like set pallets of colors to make the pets for each color.
I'd guess that maybe if someone made a suggestion they may be chewed out like I was so maybe people just stopped questioning dear leader?

The text on the new logo looks like something Deeker would use in his "art".

Hopefully, ClanHeart will be much less of a trainwreck than Briar Nexus (and probably will be).

I can say that is some of the worst logo design I have seen in a long while.

There's no way that Briar Nexus is NOT going to be a trainwreck. The question is not "is it", but rather, "when will it". Hopefully, it falls sooner than later.

I sort of know some HTML/CSS and I am shaping up on my coding skills so maybe I could help with website creation. I do know a little bit of art, but I'm better at drawing humans than creatures/animals. The only pet site I really go on is Flight Rising so of course, @Meowthkip and some of the others who are more familiar with pet sims are better with making the concept art for the creatures/pets.

I'm a graphic designer and petsite veteran, I've even worked on two as an artist and moderator. Lack of communication with staff, no quality control and zero organization has always been small site's downfalls.

Also I dont fucking get how they determine pronouns and things. I'm all for equality, maybe it would have been easier to just let people fill in their own pronouns on a blank if they wanted to maximize how inclusive they are?

And that logo, it's just way too busy - they need to trim it down to 1-3 colors, and decide if they want a typographic font logo or a visual logo. I personally think the flower graphic would be nice alone, maybe even with "BR" in the center? Idk maybe I'll make some new reworks of it if i get bored enough

Also, what does "Briar Nexus" stand for/mean? It's a bit bizarre for a pet site name.

I honestly have no idea how they chose the name, they kept talking about renaming it "Haven" because they want it to be a haven for abuse victims.
