Frame data is useful, it's just how you measure time and relate moves to one another, but a lot of players (pretty much just intermediate players) box themselves in trying to play the 'right' way only ever going by the 'best' numbers, which they themselves can't even apply correctly half the time anyway. "Oh, it's -9, I can't use this or I'll die", well sure but if you do it from far away instead of right up to them that doesn't matter because they don't have anything fast enough to punish you for it from far away. The data isn't everything. With frame data the only numbers you do really memorize are generally just the fastest thing your opponent can do and the most unsafe (i.e. punishable) stuff they have. And really you don't even memorize the number you just eventually learn "hey, if they do that thing and I block it, they fucking die". The data just tells you what you get to kill them with so you don't try things that are literally impossible to do.
Many of the best players in any game you're playing couldn't tell you the exact numbers they're working with, because after a while you don't necessarily need the number, just the knowledge of the situation ("that's safe, don't press on it/that's not safe, fucking atomize him").

im not really a fighting game guy (i just bought p4au and im button mashing my way through the story), but as someone who shares interests with autistic people, this little freak is unavoidable. Frame data isn't the end-all-be-all even among FGC tryhards (or at least among actually good players rather than hardstuck mid tiers who think doing a DP is impressive) and in anime games specifically, the insane knockback/range of a lot of moves makes pure frame data mean a lot less. You can be -2 on something but it's still "safe" because it goes all the way across the damn screen, good luck punishing it. In general you only have to think of moves as "Safe" or "Unsafe". It also doesn't really matter to combo routing since so much relies on cancelling moves outright.
You'll never escape esports faggotry in fightan though, it's the original niggerized no fun allowed competitive genre. Strive's comp scene is comparatively small and the game itself is pretty easy to play thoughever. If you can tolerate bridget existing, it's not a bad game to get into as your first modern fighter if you just want to smash buttons with the homies. Among people who actually play the game you'll run pot glue sniffing memes and waifu coomers more often than bridget stans.
And luckily, because most bridget-obsessed troons are secondaries who don't even play, you don't even run into that many bridget players once you're out of the lower floors of ranked since what few troons are playing all fucking suck (or got gud and now play a real character) And you should be thankful because bridget is mid-tier but intensely annoying to play against. If they wanted to have a ditzy boy character that isn't very independent because of his surroundings, that's okay, it's even kind of tragic and sad, but applying this kind of stuff to it can make it feel way heavier and distort the tone.
To me it's especially bad because there are actual young boys in asian countries raised to be feminine and cute because it gets certain people off, I feel like it should have been handled with a little more grace or consideration. Berserk did this a little better
