A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

* UCL sacks pro-Palestinian academic after antisemitic ‘blood libel’ lecture
An academic has been reported to police by her own university for “heinous anti-Semitism” after suggesting Jews murdered a monk and used his blood to bake holy bread.
Dr Samar Maqusi, a former researcher at University College London, also repeated anti-Semitic tropes about Jews controlling international finance and Zionists being in charge of information. Her comments were recorded and passed to The Telegraph.
In a lecture on the origins of Zionism, Dr Maqusi repeated a so-called blood libel that Jews used gentiles’ blood in rituals.
Referring to real events that took place in Syria almost 200 years ago – when Jews were falsely accused of murdering a monk to obtain his blood – Dr Maqusi omitted to tell her audience the case was used to persecute Jews.

Instead she implied the allegations could be true, telling students they should “investigate” and “draw your own narrative” on the Damascus Affair, a notorious case in which Jews were tortured and killed over the disappearance of Father Thomas, the monk, in the Syrian capital in 1840.
Dr Maqusi, who is researching a PhD in architecture, told students: “This is a Jewish feast, and the story goes – and, you know, again, these are things that you read and again, as I said: do investigate, draw your own narrative. But the story is that during this feast they make… these special pancakes or bread.
“And, part of the holy ceremony is that drops of blood from someone who’s not Jewish… has to be mixed in that bread. So, the story is that a certain investigation was undergoing to try and find where Father Thomas is. He was found murdered, and a group of Jews, who lived in Syria, said that, you know, admitted to kidnapping him and murdering him to get the drops of blood for making the holy bread”.

In the same lecture, she also said that during that period “as many of you also know, a lot of the financial network, a lot of the banks, a lot of the financial infrastructure, was owned by a lot of Jewish families. The Jews pretty much controlled the financialisation structure.”

She later said: “Keep in mind that when we’re talking about Zionism, we’re talking about an ideology that’s held within a structure that also controls a lot of what is within our hands. When you’re trying to read about Zionism you’re most probably reading within or you’re being guided or you’re being censored or being directed.”
Her comments were delivered as the first of a five-part lecture series hosted by UCL’s Students for Justice in Palestine. Dr Maqusi previously worked with UNRWA, a United Nations body, as an architect and planner.
The false accusations in the Damascus blood libel have been revived in recent years by authors in the Middle East who have claimed that Jews had in fact been responsible for the monk’s disappearance in order to use his blood.

Blood libel is the anti-Semitic accusation that Jews ritually sacrifice Christian children at Passover to obtain blood for unleavened bread.
The earliest recorded instance of this conspiracy was from a 12th-century case of a murdered English boy, William of Norwich, who died on Holy Saturday in 1144 from strange wounds to his head, arms and torso.
The boy’s uncle, a priest, accused local Jews of the murder and a rumour spread that Jews crucified a Christian child every year at Passover.
In 1255, an investigation into the death of another boy, Hugh of Lincoln, led to the reignition of the anti-Semitic concept and resulted in the execution of 19 Jews.
Blood libel has been revived sporadically, particularly in eastern and central Europe, throughout the medieval and modern periods, despite the explicit prohibition in Judaism against the consumption of blood.
In the 1930s, it became part of Nazi propaganda, often featured in cartoons in the anti-Semitic tabloid newspaper Der Stürmer.

Mark Mikhelson, 19, an Israeli student at UCL who attended the lecture, said he walked out after 45 minutes because “I couldn’t bear it any more”.
He said: “The acceptance by my fellow students of anti-Semitic blood libels and conspiracy theories was a chilling moment. These lies have led to the killing of so many Jews throughout history and yet it is seen as perfectly normal discourse at UCL. This was genuinely shocking.

“The apparent ease with which ancient and ridiculous anti-Jewish myths are once again normalised reflects how deep the rot has set in.”
Isaac Zarfati, UK executive director of Stand With Us, which fights anti-Semitism and which obtained the audio recording, said: “It is indefensible that one of the UK’s most prestigious universities is providing a platform for long-debunked racist conspiracy theories.
“UCL should be ashamed for allowing the causal dissemination of one of the oldest anti-Semitic blood libels which has driven persecution and violent pogroms against Jews.”
UCL said Dr Maqusi was a “former” fixed-term researcher but insisted she was no longer a current member of staff.
In a statement, Dr Michael Spence, UCL’s president and provost, said: “I am utterly appalled by these heinous anti-Semitic comments. Anti-Semitism has absolutely no place in our university, and I want to express my unequivocal apology to all Jewish students, staff, alumni, and the wider community that these words were uttered at UCL.”

He added: “We have reported this incident to the police and have banned her from campus. We have launched a full investigation into how this happened and have banned the student group which hosted it from holding any further events on campus pending the outcome of this.”
He said the university – like others – continued “to confront incidents of anti-Semitism and are committing to banishing this from our campus”.
The Telegraph attempted to reach Dr Maqusi for comment but received no response before going to press.

Pigs are just lazy and don't want to risk being called racist, so they ignore it.
It serves as another reminder, the problems befalling Britain are not strictly political, and neither are the solutions.

It's clear that the institutions are dysfunctional and subverted politically, I think the right needs to work on the creation of a revolutionary minded cohort of right wingers who will peacefully enter the institutions, fix them and (un)subvert them from the inside out.

Even if Rupert Lowe was in power he would not be able to achieve what he desires, and not through lack of trying. Activist institutional figures across every position of power would push to hamper any change he'd attempt to bring in. Akin to how a tanks require infantry to lead the way on the battlefield, politicians require empowered activists.

Peter Lynch may still be alive today if CPS was filled with right wing prosecutors to say "I don't think we have a case here."

Independent suddenly has a problem with references to Prevent.

Babies and toddlers referred to counterterror scheme hundreds of times

Babies and toddlers have been referred to the government’s anti-terror scheme Prevent on hundreds of occasions since 2016, with infants under the age of one referred 45 times.
A freedom of information request submitted by Hyphen to the Home Office revealed that children aged between two to five were referred a further 500 times between 2016-17 to 2023-24.
Nearly half (46 per cent) of the Prevent referrals for children under the age of 10 during this period were for “Islamist” concerns, with the figure jumping to 70 per cent for under three-year-olds.

Prevent is one of the four strands of the national counterterrorism strategy Contest, which aims at identifying individuals at risk of being drawn into terrorism and offers them support to steer them away from extremism.

Overall, the scheme has received 2,989 referrals of concern regarding under-10-year-olds, with 1,390 of these being “Islamist” concerns.
The human rights charity Rights and Security International had raised concerns in January that the personal data of those referred was remaining in other databases indefinitely, even after being deleted from the Prevent database after six years.

They argued that this was “risking real long-term impacts on the person referred, including children who have since become adults”.
In response to the findings, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn told Hyphen it was “shocking, saddening and utterly farcical” that babies and toddlers have been referred to Prevent.
He added: “These latest revelations expose how certain communities are criminalised for simply existing – to the point where even babies and toddlers are stereotyped and labelled as extremists.”
Independent MP Ayoub Khan said he would be writing to the Home Office to raise his concerns over our findings. Mr Khan said: “I am deeply concerned by reports that babies and toddlers have been referred to the government’s Prevent counterterrorism scheme.
“If accurate, this raises serious questions about how public funds are being used and whether such actions are proportionate, necessary, or in the best interests of children and their families.

“Referring infants and very young children, who clearly cannot pose a threat, risks undermining public confidence in Prevent and may contribute to the marginalisation of innocent communities.”
Last week, the Home Office released updated figures showing a record number of referrals since data began in 2015.
There were 8,778 referrals of individuals to the anti-extremism scheme in 2024/25 – up 27 per cent from 6,922 in the previous year.
The figures come as counterterrorism officials said earlier this week that there has been a significant increase in referrals since the Southport murders at a children’s dance class in July 2024.
Southport attacker Axel Rudakubana was referred to Prevent three times, but his case was closed due to a lack of a distinct ideology.
Following initial screening and assessment, Prevent referrals who are deemed at risk of radicalisation may be passed to a multi-agency “Channel panel”.
Chaired by local authorities, these panels determine the extent of a person’s susceptibility to radicalisation and whether a tailored package of support is necessary and proportionate to address the risk.
Individuals aged between 11 and 15 accounted for 39 per cent of all cases adopted as a Channel case.

The Independent here is using information from Rights and Security International whose remit seems vague but appears entirely and exclusively focused on the idea that any Muslim references to Prevent is racist.

Fair play to the bin man. Says something that society is so fucked up that you fully expect naked blokes on the street to be the likes of the queer, trans, furry weirdo bullshit. About time normal men started pulling the perverts back into line.

* Man who gave children drug-laced sweets to sexually abuse them at summer camp admits to offences
Speaking of our friend the punchy bin man…

If you're riding a pushbike around the place in the nip, you're a sex case. End of. Most of the ones who do it with clothes on are under suspicion tbqh.

“Referring infants and very young children, who clearly cannot pose a threat, risks undermining public confidence in Prevent and may contribute to the marginalisation of innocent communities.”
And no thought given to where or from whom these toddlers would have picked up such rhetoric (and it be so vile that nursery staff actually feel it worth reporting). Plus the only marginalised innocent community in the UK nowadays are us natives.

Mistook for a pervert?
"No, you don't understand! He wasn't being a pervert and exposing himself, he was being a pervert and exposing himself for CHARITY!"

Something to brighten everyone's day

Lord Mandelson was photographed relieving himself against a wall after spending the evening at George Osborne’s central London home.
The former British ambassador to the US, who was sacked in September over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, urinated on a wall while waiting for a taxi on Wednesday evening.
Photographs first published by the Daily Mail showed the Labour peer shortly before 11pm relieving himself on a street in Notting Hill.

The newspaper reported that the wall in question was part of the property of James Reed, of Reed Recruitment.
Mr Reed told the newspaper: “I’m surprised that whichever of my neighbours he happened to be visiting didn’t offer him a toilet.”
He added: “It doesn’t seem very diplomatic.”

An onlooker, who remained anonymous, told the newspaper that Lord Mandelson, 72, looked “worse for wear”.
“We have to put up with this sort of revolting behaviour during the Notting Hill Carnival. It’s a shame to see that people still feel entitled to urinate in the street here three months later, and quite outrageous that the person responsible should be a peer of the realm,” the onlooker said.

The former US ambassador offered “profuse apologies” for the incident when contacted by the Daily Mail, explaining that he had relieved himself in public because of the long wait for a taxi.
“I was stood up by two Uber drivers and kept waiting in the street for half an hour and was bursting. There is no disguising my embarrassment.”

Julian Lee, a criminal defence expert, said: “Technically, it’s against the law under a public order act of 1986, but it’s very unlikely that someone who gets caught short would end up being prosecuted.
“The only exception would be if they had caused alarm or distress to another person, or caused criminal damage, or were also doing something of a sexual nature. I very much doubt those factors apply in this case.”
Lord Mandelson had arrived at the £10m residence of the former Tory chancellor at around 8pm with a bottle of wine on Wednesday.
Since departing from his ambassadorial post in Washington, the former Labour spin doctor has returned to the UK.

A 15 year old has been raped in a park in Leeds. This is the second rape in a week, with a 17 year old attacked on the 9th. There are literally so many rape stories right now including the Brighton and Bournemouth cases i don't have time to archive them all. This is a tragedy.

Not a man so not familiar with the equipment but how does the cock and balls not get squished in the saddle if there's no lycra to tuck them to the side? Is this freak fucking peddling stood up with the old chap on dangling around or what? Does he just not have a cock? Kiwibros please respond.

Was he pissing against a wall, or was this the first stage interview to becoming ambassador to India?

They're all gay so they don't use a seat, they just attach a johnny to the seat-post and off they go.

They're all gay so they don't use a seat,
I mistakenly searched the WNBR on twitter and was immediately assaulted with faggotry. Some of the riders wear boxers/shorts and sport bras or tank tops, but all of them wear shoes? So having the full skin suit on display, at risk of becoming one with the pavement, is fine, but god forbid you have to put your delicate little bare feeties on the pedals? This all just seems like thinly veiled degeneracy. The website for the London ride advises parents to be cautious while on the website- but no mention of if the ride is strictly 18+? chat i don't have a good feeling about this...
The binman attacked two police officers? incredibly based. free muh binna

I mistakenly searched the WNBR on twitter and was immediately assaulted with faggotry.
I was unfortunate enough to cross paths with the WNBR in central London some years ago. 99% of riders were fully nude apart from shoes (and hats for the baldies - it was strong sunshine). Didn’t see any kids on the ride itself, but of course there were minors among the people milling around.

The worst thing was that most of the riders were bare-arsing it on Boris bikes. In case you needed another reason not to use those.

Media darling with a very conspicuously non-English name who supposedly saved people from the Doncaster train attacker has been released from hospital. I'm still waiting for the articles about the non-non-English people who were also instrumental in saving lives that day, who have curiously not been lionised to anywhere near the same extent.

I look forward to tomorrow's article informing us of what he had for breakfast, with further reminders that this guy was non-English.

I fucking hate anti-car Redditors so much. What a perfect event for these freaks.
I agree entirely that the exhibitionist anti car protestors are just perverts. But I am persuaded more by Kaczynski's argument -

Owning a car was once an optional luxury, but slowly over time our society was constructed with cars in mind. Cities were designed around the idea of people owning cars. Now you're virtually required to own a car, so you are then required to do all that entails. Working to pay for one, registering and getting educated on the use of a car. Even the pedestrians' freedoms have now been limited by cars. There are designated pavements and walkways, and even then the pedestrian is constantly at risk to get killed by a reckless driver. Those who do not own cars rely on public transportation, which also limits your freedom of movement. You must go where the bus goes. You must go where the train goes.

We do live in a so-called free society, but we are only free up until a point where our actions impact the functioning of the system, whether legally, morally or socially, threatening the system is the line at which behavior is considered unacceptable. What kind of freedom does one have if one can use it only as someone else prescribes ? A dog on a leash is not free.

There are no other cars or pedestrians around, it's late at night, so no risk of a child running into the road, but still we stop at a red light: OBEY.
It is all part of the mindset that the individual must sacrifice their freedom, their autonomy, any sense of personal decision making to the state.
It is for this that I resent the path that technology takes us down. I'm not retarded, I drive, I understand the necessity for modern living and obey common sense rules ( such as we drive on a certain side of the road, etc ), but it doesn't prevent me from hating what it makes me do or what we have become. This behaviour is the dream of our technocrat dictator Prime Minister Starmer - a race of mindless slaves obeying the state.

It is for this reason that whilst I drive a car, I resent the curtailments of freedoms ( in some senses anyway, as for being free to travel where you want - how long before pay per mile and the government tracking every journey one makes ? ) - it certainly isn't the Leftist, tree hugging, flip flop recycling, pervert exhibitionists' argument that persuades me.

Oh and if you're hung any more generously than a gnat, something down there will get squished. Cycling shorts, etc do tuck things up and keep it tight and out the way to an extent, but sore balls and prostate are problems - the proof being the sale of "ergonomic" saddles.
