UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I would say anywhere between 393 and 453, going on current projections.
They need to maintain the current positive wave and ensure people don't tune out or fall out of favour with reform. Given that the election is years away and the population have goldfish memories and easily led to believe any lies they're told, this will be a difficult task.

One wrong move, one well-timed negative event by any of the other political parties and lab/con voters think twice about voting for reform.

The quicker a GE happens, the better it is for reform, which is why I don't believe an early GE will happen. It's in the best interests of the established parties to keep Labour afloat.

Exactly. Right now you've still got the main two parties meeting up every week at PMQS, braying and jeering and rah-ing, just like the good old days. These are two parties who, according to the polls, nobody fucking supports at all.

But there they are, the sitting government and His Majesty's Opposition. Just basically pretending that this seismic shift in public opinion hasn't even happened. Look! On the telly, it's just like the olden days! Red takes a turn, then it will be Blue, then back to Red.

Neither of the established parties want to face the music. After a GE not only will Labour be out, but Cons won't get in and neither of them will get to form a Shadow Cabinet. If anything, we can probably expect collusion to increase as they both drag their arses towards the ballot box.

Romanian teens accused of rape attempt that sparked riots have charges dropped

Attempted rape charges against two Romanian teenagers, that sparked widespread racially-motivated riots across Northern Ireland, have been withdrawn.

The boys, aged 14 and 15, were accused of attempting to rape a schoolgirl in Ballymena, County Antrim on 7 June.

In a previous court hearing there were claims that the girl was dragged down an alleyway into a garage, but escaped when her would-be attackers were disturbed and ran off.

However, the Public Prosecution Service was granted permission to end criminal proceedings against the pair due to "significant evidential developments", at Belfast Youth Court on Friday.
The teenagers will now be released from the juvenile detention centre where they have been held for more than five months.

Another youth, who is suspected to be involved in the alleged attack, is believed to have fled to Romania the next day.

None of the accused can be identified because of their ages.

Following the alleged assault widespread racially-motivated riots took place in the town before spreading to other parts of Northern Ireland.

Bad news for any firefighters in Northern Ireland tonight who wanted a nice peaceful weekend.

Cornered the rape victim and told her she'd be dead if she testified no doubt.

So I've had a long look at the budget and been considering a bunch of incredibly unethical methods of sticking it to the government. If you have more than £6k in savings then bennies basically amount to zero, so anyone who is saving and making decent interest/dividends/rising stocks recieve no state benefits. This is fine by me because on paper I'd much rather have my own savings that means I don't have to rely on the government for help or do the humiliation ritual of dealing with Universal Credit, and allows me to basically buy whatever the fuck I want whenever I want it.

But what if I WAS a complete fucking slimeball?

Option 1) Liquidate everything and put it into paying off my mortgage, and any extras being put towards improving the house and upgrading appliances. I wouldn't get rent help but I'd get Universal Credit + heating and gas gibs which means that as long as I spent my salary + Universal Credit before it hit £6k I could live like a king.

Option 2) Sell the house, start renting and put as much as I can into my pension (which would take YEARS) which would allow me to get Universal Credit + rental support + heating and gas gibs. This means that rent is practically the biggest expense I would have and I'd be able to live like a king with the caveat that once I hit private pension age I'd have to get off the bennies train and *sigh* live off my near million pound pension pot.

In reality, if they fuck with the ISA anymore I'm probably just selling up and moving. I could practically retire in Thailand if I wanted to live like a pauper but I'm in no state to fully commit to the Thaipill.

This is my concern. Red vs Blue is as old as anyone can remember. If they faced a choice of extinction or collusion/coalition, which would they choose?

You're just ousting starmer from labour or putting labour into opposition, you're removing the biggest governing bodies from not just Westminster, but the entire civil service. It's no secret that labour stack the service with lefties to prevent the tories doing anything while they're in power, it's an old communist tactic.
But for both of them to completely wiped out? while great, I just can't see it.

Yeah, things change, but I can't see it happening. When the next GE rolls around, 50% of 19 year olds and under are muslim. That's a lot of vote harvesting for the imams to ensure their guy wins. labour will court them with whatever they need to secure those votes.

Tories will lean heavily on industry and promise vat and tax cuts. Between the invaders having more sway in voting than the natives, and the rich wooing the fickle, goldfish normie-cattle with price cuts and jobs, I can only see red and blue sitting in westminster in 2030.

Remember as well, Reform is a protest vote because of the immigrants. The two parties that turned that tap on, can just as easily turn it off, stop the boats, empty the hotels and do some random deportations and that's Reforms main voting bloc hobbled before they cast a single vote.

"Labur and tories did tax us and it's been shit, but hey, they got rid of the immigrants like they promised so maybe voting for them isn't too bad. After all nigel caused brexit (this smear campaign will be coming, trust me) and I don't trust him. Labour gets my vote".

When Farage used to appear on the BBC, makeup artists were using tools contaminated with "bodily fluids" on his face. Was it shit, piss, saliva or something else?
I'll bet £100 it never happened. I've worked in customer-facing roles for a very long time and people get very worked up and say all sorts of things, but in reality nothing ever happens.
That being said, I'd love it if the smug cunt that thought this was an impressive claim was identified.

Actually, it isn't. Most areas are still having recruitment freezes from 2023, and in this job market many civil servants are just hanging on for dear life. The majority of Civil Servants right now were employed in the middle of the 14 years of Tories.

Why are they so wet and fucking insufferable? I suggest you have a little look at the Civil Service Code of Conduct. It's almost meticulously designed to be pro DEI dogshit that prevents anyone with a backbone from even applying, and actively punishes anyone from rocking the boat, even if it is needed to get shit done. The entire civil service is designed so that no managers really have any agency so nobody can truely be punished for fucking up majestically on an individual level. Unless they have the wrong opinion of course, and they will be basically railroaded out of the service.

This and also the right wing seems to ADORE cities for some fucking reason.

The civil service going WFH was a boon for right wing countryside people to get into the service. Now retard farage thinks we should get them to go 100% into the cities so that only blue haired retards can work for it.

Work from the office is a scam to keep the train unions and lefties in the cities to fund the left wing coffee shops.

In a case of Reform winning with a very small majority, would such a case happen where queer starmer creates a coalition with the Lib Dems or Greens? Or is that not allowed? I was thinking back to when the Tories and Lib-Dems joined one.
Lib lab, possibly featuring the Greens would almost certainly happen if Reform won by a very slim margin. At that point Reform would likely form a coalition with the Tories and truly become the Teal Torie party and it would be another 5 years of nothing (ever) happening. It is something they are 100% allowed to do so Labour would very likely do this just so they can block Reform at every turn, make them look like a lame party and then pray they can win next time.

There's a very good reason almost all the worst points of the budget don't kick in until 2028...
Bear in mind that a very small majority is still a majority which means that no matter how many team ups from the opposition they make up, they will still be out seated. The only time the opposition would have any say is a number of Reform MPs rebelling or leaving the party.

Even a minority government with only a few seats short of a majority is still good enough as that would require almost everyone in the opposition to show up and vote the same without abstaining and I don't see that happening when NI loyalist parties and possibly hard leaning Tories will still be there.

Abolish The Welsh Assembly
This is funny to see and looking them up, it seems they have even infighting between two groups between the current leader and the former too. The idea is also just as amusing as it sounds too. I can't imagine any State in the US just deciding to get rid of it's powers to deal with issues exclusive to them and just let the central federal government do whatever they want while the people in the state can't do anything about it. States in the US have even more powers and responsibilities than any of the devolved governments here too.

I don't like the Scottish Government and the SNP in general and god knows I've already go on rants about them. But to think that the answer they came up with is to have even more centralization (and towards the UK government of all things) is amusing. I wouldn't be surprised if these people are just UKucked that they are willing to get rid of their cultural identity because of self-hating cringe which is just even more embarrassing than deluded nationalists.

I also guarantee they would not be of this opinion if right-wing parties were in charge of the devolved governments and the UK Government was more left-wing instead. And the icing on the cake of this whole thing is that these Retards have policies they wish to enforce in Wales only while getting rid of the Welsh Government and Parliament at the same time. Do they just think they can ask the UK Government to enforce these policies when they have no power in the UK Parliament? Do these tools even think a majority of MPs in Westminster give a shit or even bother to humor them at all?

The CoC put in place by lefties decades ago. Every council filters out right people, they are a lefty haven and you have to abide by lefty rules.
The whole institutions are socialist by design - not that that is an issue but it colours the environment to be very left wing.

The councils have unwritten rules where right-wingers and those who espouse non lefty views are removed by various methods; increased work loads, cancelled holidays, office politics, passed over for promotion and denied pay rises.
This isn't a dig, but people who don't realise the long march through the institutions has happened are naive.

There are no right wing people in the country, none. The right wing does not exist. Centrist, maybe, but a proper conservative right wing government? None.
Work from the office is a scam to keep the train unions and lefties in the cities to fund the left wing coffee shops.
WFH was a scam to pull a repeat of the 90s whereby call centres that used to be UK based, were shipped to India almost in their entirety because call quality increased and cost decreased to the level where the average indian could be paid 10 rupees a day and save companies millions. BT outsourced their whole operation and it was until 15 years later that companies began bragging about "UK based call centres" when purchasing their products.
Now they are UK based call centres, still run by indians because the indians live here.

WFH was a stress test on the network. If Charlotte Levant-Smith can sit in her bugpod and do her work, do we need to pay her £40,000 a year when we can pay an average indian £4,000 a year? Yes, yes we can.
Tech jobs being replaced by AI (Average Indian) in their thousands because of it.

If there's one thing you need to understand it's that there isn't two parties in this country. There's one and it's a lefty party.

>Trump providing a precedent for Farage (and other European leaders) to copy
Thank God.
Honestly, with this and JD Vance reaming basically all of Europe over their abandonment of the principle of free speech, I feel like the Trump administration is doing more to progress my interests than any domestic politician.

Me too but it's a nice coincidence and that's all it is, the merimutt will only ever be interested in looking good to their domestic audience and the fact that shit talking our own despised ruling caste is a happy alignment and nothing more, never mistake it for actual affinity because they'd just as fast be happily stuffing us with corn-syrup enriched chlorinated chicken.

Be macheted/ have a choice of chicken.

All of you who correctly guessed Reeves would be gone before Christmas, treat yourself to an extra drink on the day.

Reeves cannot stay now that her actions have incited a war of words between the IFS, the OBR and the Treasury. I can't see this budget actually staying intact as it is, it'll have to be reworked and redone. Eagerly awaiting the front pages of the morning papers to see how fucked she is.

Who do they replace her with? Darren Jones is probably the top pick since he got moved from No. 11 to Cabinet (Starmer invented a role for him in Cabinet), however he has no experience in this. Neither does Reeves, to be fair.
