This might look like an exhaustive list to people who don't know much about it, but really he barely tried any drugs for depression. There are so many options and chances are one of them will work without intolerable side effects. Scientists have found that people who respond to treatment that then stops working likely have a specific type of vitamin deficiency, based on this part of the email it seems plausible that he was one of them (and the vitamin in question isn't on his list here). It is really a modern miracle that slightly modifying folate supplements turns out to be the solution to many peoples treatment resistant depression.

If you try enough drugs and none of them work you can get other treatments. electroconvulsive therapy is the most famous and oldest (it is nothing like what is shown on movies and tv), but there are newer treatments that use magnets to stimulate parts of the brain in treatment resistant depression that don't have ECT side effects. He had enough money in savings to afford any of it, most people can't. Really floored he was emailing null instead of calling his mom or something.

An innocent angel, bullied, harassed, driven to suicide, whose presumably final note was flooded with hundreds of compassionate and supportive people minutes after posting. How can a body not cringe while typing this. Sure, most of them don't actually care, but not all, and that is already more support than most people would or could ever gather. These days people just massage each other into absolutely unrealistic standards of reception and communication in general, and then go instantly mad when they are inevitably not kept. People just don't face enough trouble.

So in a sense, Near created KiwiFarms. Why would he kill himself because of a site he created?
