"Yes California Independence Campaign, a fringe political group that calls for the state to become an independent nation, filed a proposed ballot measure with the Attorney General's Office on November 21, The Sacramento Bee reports.

If it garners the half a million signatures required to appear on the 2018 gubernatorial ballot, the measure would strike language from the state constitution that would help clear a path to secession."

Because that shit totally worked when it was actually half the country doing it and they had actual guns and most of the best generals in the country.

I'm sure a bunch of troons, loons and buffoons can beat the entire U.S. armed forces.

'To Calexit' is officially the 2016 term for 'to be hoist by one's petard in the most millennial way possible.' It's like Mr. Belvedering yourself but with a vain attempt at justification - it hurts, everyone knows what you did, and yet they insist it had to be done.

Agreed. Robert E. Lee was a master tactician who won most of his battles against a numerically superior opponent. In fact, prior to commanding the Confederate Army, Lincoln asked him to take command of the Union Forces. He had numerous upset victories against the Union and the South still ultimately lost. One of my favorite historians, Shelby Foote, (who has on occasion been criticized for being too "Pro-Confederacy") had this to say:

Shelby Foote said:
"I think that the North fought that war with one hand behind its back. If the Confederacy ever had come close to winning on the battlefield, the North simply would have brought that other arm out from behind its back. I don’t think the South ever had a chance to win that war.”

And that was 155 years ago when military technology was crude and the average person was far more acclimated to strife and hardship. These Calexit pinheads have zero chance.

I don't know about how it works in California, but Oregonians found out in 2012 that ballot measures don't mean shit. We shot one down and the Governor implemented it anyway.

This is great. I want to mow down nu-males with a minigun. I'm getting hard just thinking about it.

Plus every red county in California will immediately counter-secede, and could easily handle that shit themselves without the US even needing to lift a finger except to maybe tell Mexico "yeah, don't get any funny ideas".

I think Orange County by itself could kick their asses.

Ahhh no. One of the things the Civil War established is that once part of the Union, a state cannot legally secede under any pretence whatever. Short of a Constitutional amendment specifically allowing them to secede, this is pissing in the wind, as has been well established for 150 years.

You know how when the Civil War started everybody thought it would be a quick, easy thing?

That's when the Union was fighting manly dudes with guns. A modern American army fighting a bunch of faggot hipsters who think guns are yucky would be a straight up massacre and it would be awesome. Then we could take their fucking almonds, or whatever.

Honestly, I want this to happen now - the comedy it creates will be more than worth as we drag their asses back, kicking and screaming. Please, let them do it. It'll be a great first test for Trump and his Congress, more than anything, on how we need to deal with idiots like these.
Same with Texas - it's not like they've been planning to do this for the umpteenth time since 5 minutes ago.

Shocking CCTV footage from the future has emerged showing US forces entering Los Angeles to take back California for the Union!
