Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Does BO6 have really bad SBMM? I mean, I'm pretty sure it's got some form of it in there, but is it as bad as MWIII's was? I got a bit burnt out of the CoD series from the last game; I might skip this one - especially since the campaign is "white people bad" from what I've heard - but I'd still like to know if the Multiplayer experience is more consistent than MWIII.
Actually, it’s not “white people bad,” but rather “Fed (CIA) bad”, so it’s based depending on who you ask.

Hell, Pantheon is formed cause of how shitty the Feds are.

There was SBMM even in the public beta, what do you think?
Every single COD game will have stronger and stronger SBMM from now on. They patented that shit for a reason.
I'm still waiting for Tranzit or Green Run. I meant what I said, I don't care about anything Zombies related until they fix that map, especially since they already have 2 different versions ready to be released and just sitting on some server. Tag Der Toten is a perfect ending and Dark Aether/Cold War is a nice little stand alone side story, you're going to have to work hard to get this veteran back on the ball.

That's a bit of a shame, to be honest; I remember the SBMM being what basically killed MWIII for me, so I think I'll definitely be holding off on this one, unless the price gets super low and the gameplay gets REALLY good.

And yeah, I'd love to see some of the more disliked Zombie maps get reworked; Tranzit was actually one of my favorites as well, so I'd love to see it on BO6.

Judging from the end of the Terminus cutscene, it looks like we're going to be getting some Chaos stuff in BO6; going by both it and Shi No Numa in Vanguard, it looks like the Chaos and Dark Aether stories are both connected to each other, and Terminus reveals that Richtofen is looking for a Sentinel Artifact.

Not sure how I feel about that, to be honest...

Admittedly, that's probably more accurate, now that I look more at the game. Second opinions and all that.

I've watched some videos over the campaign myself, I do think that the story does have some neat ideas, just... nothing got executed very well. Tone's all over the place, Case's backstory feels VERY undercooked and just random, and the story's jumped the shark, frankly. Some of the mission ideas were honestly cool - Emergence is a guilty pleasure of mine - but other parts just look outright bizarre and too cheesy. Not a fan, personally, though from the other responses, it looks like I'm certainly not alone.

I'm pretty sure Chaos is just the earliest point in time for this new rebooted timeline, altho I don't know if this has ever been confirmed. This would also explain why there is so much focus on demons and shit now, especially with Vanguard: Medusa released, well, the Ancient Evil onto the world and the events of Die Maschine/Vanguard Zombies only made things worse.
What I said still stands, Tranzit or bust. Tag Ter Toten ends on a perfect note and I am not feeling an urge to care or pay attention to this new storyline.

To people playing BO6, is there any futuristic stuff or does the game take place in the 90s exclusively? Will be pretty pathetic to not even celebrate 2025 with a reboot of BO2.

The spawns, SBMM, and inconsistent damage is so unbelievably frustrating in BLOPS 6 that at this point the only thing that's fun in multiplayer is camping to piss people off on purpose, especially when they have an open mic and you can hear all 30 members of their household and smoke alarm chirp.

Reminder PSA that there is a way to claim 1100 CoD points pretty much for free -- all you have to do is buy CoD WWII on Steam, claim the points in the multiplayer lobby, and refund the game, the points will still be on your account. Even if you don't play on Steam, ex. you only play BO6 on Game Pass, these are still technically transferable. Starting with Season 1 on November 14th, you should be able to use the Steam version of Warzone (F2P) to buy the battle pass, and claim all the rewards (including the CoD Points) on whatever platform you use.

Isn't the main storyline that all the past storylines were banished into the Dark Aether, and so they've all combined into one? I don't really follow the story religiously or anything, but that's what I remember at least.

Just the 90s, not sure if they're gonna have a year 2 or even MW23 situation, but most leaks so far have been pointing to a BO2 sequel in 2025.

The previous COD multiverse ceases to exist, there is nothing left. Nikolai essentially commits suicide of the entire franchise after poisoning both Ultimis and Primis as that is the only way to truly break the cycle they have been endlessly stuck in, something they do behind Monty's back as he and the Shadow Man have been working together to keep the cycle going all this time. The only survivors from the dimensional reset are Samantha(who gets to grow up in the Dark Aether) and young Eddie, I don't think they ever state where the rest of the children go as that might just be a scrapped storypoint by now. Eddie also grows up and he is seen at the end of Cold War being the same evil dickhead he always was. Dark Aether is what remains of the original Call of Duty universe, except now it's filled with things that aren't supposed to be there, a graveyard of every single multiverse of the old COD timeline along with invading demons and other shit that Medusa and Vanguard demon lords have summoned. Think of Dark Aether as a ground zero after a nuclear blast, except the radiation never goes away and things just get more fucked up over time thanks to E115.
Also, that's why MW universe was rebooted as well, that is the "new" Call of Duty mainline lore after the old one was wiped from existence. Infinite Warfare might be the latest point in the franchise now, since it's been hinted that IW takes place in the same timeline as MW2019, but also Ghosts? It's unclear, maybe some events just repeat from the older timeline, ie we still have LOKI and ODIN satellites but US kept it's shit together and Federation never invaded or perhaps was never even formed in this universe. Everything is on the table now, but you will still get the same safe MW/BO slop every year regardless because some people got upset when they were forced to use jetpacks 10 years ago.

Do the CoD points come through on the first season with Black Ops 6? I have my skins (not sure of Gobblegum). Also, how do you get CoD points short of buying them?

They're tied to the platform you're on so, if you play BO6 on Steam, you can access them as soon as you claim them from WWII. I mention Season 1 because buying the battle pass to transfer them over to other platforms isn't worth it right now, considering there's 2 weeks left on the last MW23 pass, and none of the other content in it will transfer to BO6.

In terms of getting CoD points, it's pretty much just buying them, or buying other things. BO4's deluxe edition (BO4 is only on Battle.net) includes 2800 points, WWII includes 1100 points. Little Caesar has a promotion right now where a $3 order or more from them gives you a random prize up to 21000 points, but don't expect to get that from it, obviously. In-game, pro bundles (the ones you buy with real money, not the CODE charity one) and Blackcell (the premium version of the battle pass that you can only buy with money) should also give you points.

In my personal opinion, I believe that this is one of the best Multiplayers weve had in years, but the Zombies is the real icing on the cake for me at the moment, its extremely enjoyable, probably one of the most entertaining zombies modes weve had since Black Ops 2, the Pack-a-Punch weapons feel amazing to use, the movement helps you make rape trains easier then you could in prior titles, and just the amount of upgrades you can get on the map is overwhelming but fun once you get used to it, my highest round so far is like 31, Bravo Treyarch you actually did it.

I'm glad they kept cross-mode progression on weapon levels and a form of the prestige token system. I've maybe played all of 4 multiplayer matches on TDM, so it's nice knowing I can actually play Zombies and enjoy the game and not have to go into multiplayer with naked guns when I decide to dabble in it. There's always a gun or two that's cursed/borderline useless without some attachments, the Goblin being the worst offender for me. Granted, it isn't great in Zombies even with upgrades, but I'd rather 2 shot zombies than try to plink sweaty tryhards with iron sights.

I usually only play MP with friends to help ease some of the salt, but the gang is still reluctant to download it, even though I know for a fact they have GamePass. The consequences of doomposting and collectively shitting on any new CoD games finally caught up to me. To be fair, I still don't have high hopes for this franchise and I'm sure the fatigue will set in once all the silly shit cosmetic shit starts going into rotation.

IW/Sledgehammer Games would reset your stats upon patching it. Not even JUST reset, but give you 0 wins, 1000 losses; 0 kills, 10000 deaths. I think Xbox Live banned you as well.
Never knew that, that's funny.

On OG MW3. I've reinstalled and started playing on plutonium again with MW3. It's pretty fun. Curious as to how they added the ak-74u and Intervention.

Seen some other weapons people have modded in but it requires GSC scripting and Zonetool for someone to do it. I think you have to basically make your own UI if I read up from forum posts right but half tempted to fuck with it.

There were console memory limitations in play that prevented their implementation on xbox360/ps3. This was also the reason why BO2 only got one DLC weapon and why last gen versions of AW only got three. Obviously, these memory limitations are no longer an issue 15 years later on PC and most of the files to make these weapons work are already in the game. I believe there is also a way to get AUG working too.

I didn't know CoD Points transfered over between CoDs.

If they're enough points in the Blackcell pass to make up those points, I would say that can be helpful but those cosmetics would be unearthly.

It's all exacerbated by the movement speed. Everyone moves so fast now that even on larger maps, even if they spawned you as far as possible from the action, you'd be no more than a half second away from getting shot in the back. Lag compensation is also inherently more unpredictable when players move quickly, too.

The reason MW3 had the MSR instead of the Intervention is Remington makes the MSR. As for why not even more weapons overall, the developers said disk space was the main limitation.

This was also the reason why BO2 only got one DLC weapon

BO2 only got one DLC weapon because tossing a new gun into the mix made maintaining the game balance a much bigger headache than they expected.

Treyarch specifically said that the only reason they didn't include more guns in BO2 were the memory limitations, same as with MW3 and that was back when the game was new. Just look at how many weapons they added into the lootboxes in BO3, they certainly didn't care about balance when the technology finally caught up.
As for Intervention in MW3, there was a shitload of weapons that were planned to come back, pretty much every COD4 and MW2 weapons were on the table at some point. Some even made it in and got a new texture, such as the Vektor that was seen in one of the early trailers, I believe some other weapons are also available with console commands in certain single player/spec ops missions.

I don't know about Treyarch, but SHG said it was a disc space issue. You only had 12 GB for the entire game. I don't see why RAM would make a difference. You only need to load in the guns people are using in that specific match, not every gun at once, and they obviously had enough RAM for every player to have a different gun at the same time. Maybe they run out of space for weapon pictures in the setup screen, idk.

When asked why the AKS-74u wasn't included in multiplayer when it was available in single player and spec ops, the answer was that they literally couldn't, ie memory issues just like Treyarch had with BO2. You would have to ask the developers.
Disc space wasn't as much of an issue since there is plenty of cut content that was sloppily never removed, that includes a lot of legacy content from the previous 2 MW games and even some WW2 classic COD content.

Nuketown has been turned into a 50/50 map.
In the older versions, you could hold all these different angles with just enough cover if you knew where to position yourself.
In this version, you now have the same angles exposed to 3 different counter angles.
Upstairs can see so much more now.

Time to learn the new cheap spots I guess, so far I’ve only found one.
If you’re behind the patio house and looking down the lane with the hedges, you can lie down positioned just off the patio and get free kills on people peaking out of bus.
Just shoot when you see a name tag lol, you can’t see them and they can’t see you.

My K/D is considerably higher than during the beta, but I feel correspondingly worse playing somehow
