Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Warzone when it first came out clears it any day.
Warzone 1.0 was overrated slop. Blackout kept things interesting with location based events like AI controlled zombies attacking anyone they see and with useful gadgets like grappling hooks letting you turn the tables on an enemy in an instant.
Warzone only had the create-a-class thing going for it, which defeats the whole purpose of a BR anyways. Just play Ground War at this point. I would have liked the cancelled Blackout 2.0 mode they planned for Cold War anyday of the week.

I just want a fun campaign. Cold war was fun.

I think the last one I really loved was infinite warfare. Felt like a love letter to Halo and Cod. Felt big and like you were in a real giant conflict. Even with the scifi setting. Written by one guy who voiced the MC, clearly a passion project.

I think IW was the last CoD campaign that I really enjoy too; none of the campaigns that came afterwards really sucked me in like IW, hell, I never even touched MWIII's. Real scummy how Activision is trying to ape Fortnite while ignoring what makes that one at least playable.

Doesn't help that most of the older/better CoD games are impossible to find these days; not does it help that any copies I find on my end are all damaged. Meanwhile, I keep getting copies of MW2019 and games onward shoved in my face; Cold War does look interesting, but after the shitshow that was MWIII's SBMM, pretty certain that I'll be sticking to the older CoDs only at this point. Doesn't help that BO6 has a cheater problem...

I just want a fun campaign. Cold war was fun. Got to the zombie lab thing in BO6 and then for some reason it's making me restart it from the start of the mission.
I dreaded that Zombie crossover mission in BO6. Find four keycards, attack bullet sponge bosses, scourge for equipment/ammo, the end. There was no reason for it.

On another note: I'm replaying CoD 4's campaign on Veteran. I went through two missions, The Bog and Shock and Awe. I forgot how enemies infinitely spawn inside buildings with pinpoint accuracy. Urban, outdoor missions with buildings are the worst levels to endure because even if you get lucky to push through, ONE enemy would be in a corner or doorway and BEAM you in seconds.

I'm at the Safehouse mission where you have to search five houses for Big Bad Al-Asad. Checkpoints only triggers when you clear a house. That goes to my above complaint of Veteran difficulty. Two-story houses, infinitely respawning enemies, laser accuracy, objective-based checkpoints equals a miserable experience. Add insult to injury, I manage to clear the last house, Captain Price needs to enter the house to activate the mission trigger. HE CAN'T! HE GOT STUCK IN LEVEL GEOMETRY! So, I have to RESTART that ordeal again.

Thank goodness CoD went away with infinitely respawning enemies in their later entries.

Funnily enough, I actually picked up a copy of MW3 PS3 a while back; to be honest, that game... didn't play so well. For whatever reason, the game kept glitching out on me extremely often; objectives would fail to load, characters wouldn't progress, basically the whole game would just randomly mess up. Same with Uncharted 3, weirdly enough...

Speaking of games titled MW3... I admit, I really wanted to enjoy the 2023 game, but I just couldn't. I genuinely liked the gameplay, and the map design was pretty neat at points - even with retarded design decisions like having 6 different versions of Shipment - and I really liked the weapon variety; I was legit using all 12 loadout slots just to make fun loadouts. Hell, even the crazy skins and effects didn't always suck; yeah, they got annoying at points, but I never really felt like I was losing because someone bought a specific bundle... most of the time.

The problem is, there's just enough bullshit to ruin it all. The SBMM - coupled with affecting damage - was the main issue; nothing says "lazy balancing" like getting 10 games in a row unable to break 5 kills with a shotgun because the AI decided to fuck you. I genuinely got to the point where I couldn't even play the game; one match I had on Shipment I just went AFK because I would literally die the second I spawned from some max level bunnyhopper wearing the Baby Groot skin with a Remington 870. I also got tired of seeing woketards everywhere; typically people with stuff like the tranny bullets or wokeshit flags and stuff. Doesn't help that they ALWAYS seemed to benefit from the SBMM...

I know I'm just being autistic at this point, but... it's frustrating, because I really want to enjoy these games, but Activision seems hellbent at making everything unlikable. Hell, I even gave Vanguard a shot, but that game failed to me meet even a quarter of the way.

I've beaten five CoDs on Veteran. MW2, Black Ops, MW3, Cold War and Black Ops 6.

I recall MW2/MW3 being the easiest to beat on Veteran. Enemies rush you, but they don't infinitely respawn. Grenade spam does not happen unless you're sitting in one spot for a prolonged period of time, but the blast radius is large.

Did you change your PSN name at all to where some titles are inaccessible? (That has nothing to do with your particular situation; I was curious). I'm not sure why some PS3 discs/systems do that.

Nope! Same account I always had on PS3; I think MW3 was the only other game besides Uncharted 3 that had that issue. I mean, I was able to beat the main stories on both, but it got to the point where I eventually just dumped both games; not worth keeping if you can't play them at all.

I don't have a PS3, but here's what I could find about some troubleshooting.
If your PS3 won't load certain games, the most likely culprits are a dirty disc, a faulty disc drive (potentially due to dust buildup), corrupted game data on your PS3 hard drive, or a problem with the game disc itself (scratches, damage)- try cleaning the disc, checking for damage, restarting your console, and if that doesn't work, consider accessing Safe Mode to rebuild your database or even contacting Sony support for further assistance.
Maybe try repairing your PS3 hard drive, rebooting in safe mode, or testing them on another PS3 if applicable.

Checkpoint-based levels are something I don't really ever want to see come back. They occasionally make sense, but even in WaW, you'd sometimes run into a tiny building that managed to have 300 enemies in it unless you knew to run forward, then it might have only 6.

Running forward is the "easy" part, holding and clearing out the clown car spawn is another feat on Veteran.

Several classic CoD titles has been added to the Microsoft Store for PC users. No cross-platform support for multiplayer or controller support, so you're paying a premium fee for vanilla ports of old games. You still have to buy DLC too.

I'm thinking those titles will be added to Game Pass soon.

Looks like a pre-alpha build of BO2 just dropped showcasing early Origins and plans for including all the previous zombies maps from BO1 and WaW.
AFK right now, so sorry for not having the build on me at this time.
This is a dream come true, you have no idea. The only other thing I would be more excited about would be beta of BO2 zombies, one with prototype Tranzit with Route B and the various cut game modes, like "Race" or "Meat" and cut survival maps like the Cornfield or Power Plant.
Telling that the only good news that comes from COD these days is when hackers or modders do something, not Activision or the devs.

I say Black Ops II is not my favorite CoD, but I find myself playing Zombies more in BO2 than any other CoD. Mob of the Dead is my personal favorite map. I wish I am able to complete solve the easter egg.

I remember that Kino der Toten was meant to be in WaW, but was shelved to Black Ops to prevent MW2 sales from being affected.

Speaking of the Black Ops games; how's BO6 doing right now? Outside of Warzone - which we all know is complete slop - I haven't really heard much about the rest of the game, other than a bunch of people talking about the devs using AI for basically everything. Seriously, people keep insisting that the Multiplayer and Zombies content is all AI-generated.

That, and people are still insisting that Hacienda is "too big of a map" for CoD.

Still, is the game worth grabbing these days? I mean, I'm not planning on getting it; MWIII burned me out severely on modern CoD, but is the game actually decent? Did they nerf the SBMM, or is it worse?

Take this what you will, but the recent holiday event unlocks appear to be AI-generated, which is causing an uproar from the CoD community. Moreover, there are no "AI protections" for voice actors involved in Black Ops 6. Treyarch/Activision responded with silently replacing key voice actors, presumably at the release of Citadel Des Mortes.

Don't forget that AI is used for voice moderation in CoD now, so Call of Duty is a proving ground now with how far companies will go with artificial intelligence.

I'm hearing that SBMM was "toned down" for the free holiday weekend. I haven't noticed any difference, then again, I had a brief hiatus from Black Ops 6. I'd say try it during a free weekend. Find it in a sale if you're curious. I cannot say for certain, shooters are in an interesting place nowadays.

IIRC the trick there was still to run forward. Just try and make it into the house.

So, found a video that shows an execution in BO6 that apparently doesn't actually kill people most of the time:

Thoughts?
I think this looks like a violent Pixar movie.

Nothing surprises me about the state of CoD or Activision anymore. I'm sure they'll patch it in a number of hours/days, but this shows that there's no quality control for their updates or content drops.

Onto MWIII, I'm liking the camo grind for their weapons aside from the weapon level requirement TO get to the camo request. The completionist section of the camos are more varied than just kill streaks. 3 kills with one magazine, two kills without letting off the trigger, X kills with certain attachments. That's all I saw so far. The Small Map Moshpit and Shipment playlists help with completing various challenges.

"...violent Pixar movie"; that's a new one. Not complaining; it's hilariously apt.
There really is something incredibly "off" about the graphics in BO6, and really, every nu-COD except MW 2019. I remember when those first screenshots of COD4 came out, I had to do a double-take because of how realistic they were. This was for a game designed for hardware that is now twenty years old. You will not convince me that BO6 looks more real than this:

Sure, BO6 has gamma-correct lighting, HDR, material shaders, high res textures, ambient occlusion, and whatever else, but it still somehow manages to look less realistic and more like a cartoon, like it's The Incredibles With Guns. It also manages to look the exact same as every other game, it could just as well be the latest Overwatch clone.

It just goes to show that we are way past the point where rendering technology has become less important than to the skill of the artists. We were getting to that point already on the 360 IMO, but we're definitely there now.
