Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

For shits and giggles, I was considering on making my WWII character as woke as possible since I could be a female, Black Axis soldier with LGBT flags on my playercard for one whole prestige.

I remember you mentioning that last time; I considered something similar I admit, though just kinda stuff with a generic white guy. To be fair, I didn't notice all that many fags compared to some of the latter games - maybe being forced to play as a dreaded "NAZIIIIIII" wound up chasing most away? - but I've seen enough to make me hesitant.

Gameplay in WWII is nothing special. You can dolphin dive, inspect your weapon, customize a character, create an emblem, use health packs in single player. All I could find when I played was Shipment 24/7, TDM (and HC) and HC Search & Destroy.

The generic parts of the game aren't really the problem; it's the actual gameplay itself. Multiplayer matches tend to be crammed full of people who just causally seem to be able to track you through walls constantly, and it gets frustrating when you get into a match where you can't even play. The fact that Shipment is the most playable map these days highlights all this; every match turns into a confusing mess, and if you're not sweating your ass off, then you're basically just dying non-stop. Doesn't help that I kept getting hit with crap team balancing...

From what I've seen, it's the same with the newer games; MW23's SBMM is horrible from experience, and I played a bit of Cold War with a friend recently and promptly got fucked by sweats. And yet, part of me is still wanting to give the games another go; feels like some kind of abusive relationship almost, frankly.

There are four (or five?) LGBT afflicted calling cards unlocked by default in CoD: WWII.

You'd have to scroll to the very bottom to find them.

The "black, female Nazi" is a meme based on WWII's character selection of skin tones and genders from Sledgehammer Games' commitment to diversity in a World War II themed game. Since the character you "create" is universal for multiplayer regardless of faction, it's unintentionally funny to be a female black character on the Axis side.

I've affectionally called CoD: WWII a World War II theme park with its multiplayer experience. You have calling cards of squash-and-stretch cartoons and realistic painted depictions of war, wacky camos and skins with soldiers doing goofy animations at the post-game lobby screen, a social space taking place in Normandy Beach where soldiers can call down loot boxes TO OBTAIN goofy cosmetics and a fast TTK that prioritizes SMGs as meta.

It's inoffensive to me if that's the tonal direction that Sledgehammer wanted to take with CoD and World War II, at least compared to CoD: Vanguard.

My copy of Black Ops 1 arrived. (Disc has a chip in the middle.) Last played online was: 2407-2450 days ago. Jesus, time flies. That's six and a half years passed. I do like how Black Ops introduced its own last played section for CoD onward.

I remember how practical the Galil was in Black Ops. Manageable recoil, serviceable range, great magazine capacity, the ultimate assault rifle to use.

Search & Destroy without DLC was a fun time to get back to the groove of things. Engagements felt fairer than from modern CoD. I say fairer, because CoD always has bullshit with head glitching, hit registration and meta loadouts. Even so, it never felt like the game itself was trying to manipulate the results of the match.

Zombies feels structured compared to World at War with its improvements that minimize zombie lunge. Almost like Treyarch reached their stride of how to create a horde, survival experience.

It was funny just how many broken guns there were in BO MP, and just how many useless ones there were. I swear I was the only one who used the Skorpion and Uzi since I wanted era appropriate weapons, not ones you would only find years later. Galil in particular is such an offender since it has 5 rounds more than the average rifle AND it has superior handling stats, why not use it?
I forgot which weapon I mained at the time, probably an M16 since I remember how OP it was in MW2 and COD4, I also used the FAL quite a lot. The flamethrower attachment on rifles was pretty cool, it helped that only Flak Jacket Pro(if I remember correctly) was immune to it, so you could tell who you should use it against or not. Funny how that works, easily recognizable threats you can clock based on what they wear, wouldn't that be a good idea to use in future games!

I haven't sniped in Black Ops yet, but I remember how "broken" it was compared to MW2. I know with the L96A1, Treyarch added sway after focusing your breath in the scope. A LOT of sway. Did they nerf aim assist with snipers to combat quickscoping?

I always preferred the Stoner 63 on BO; not sure why, it just felt really good.

I never really did get into sniping much in any of the CoD games; I think the only one that I did was MW2019, thanks to the AMR with explosive rounds.

AUG, Famas, AK-47, Galil, RPK; there were some good weapons from Black Ops for the sandbox.

Black Ops 1's progression system granted the player more agency for customizing your loadout compared to MW2. The CoD points system was initiative for expanding player choice in HOW they choose to progress. Unlock a weapon from levelling up, buy it and unlock the attachments from there. Can't believe I have to say this NOW, but your CoD points were earned entirely through gameplay. Nothing involving level progression or unlocks was locked behind a paywall.

My first night back into Black Ops felt like middle/high school again just relearning the maps and weapons while enjoying the black ops vibe from the menu and mission music.

I loved the Skorpion. The only thing that killed you faster at close range was a shotgun, and it had laser-like recoil with the stock, which was hilariously OP for SMGs. The Uzi wasn't so bad if you ran it with extended mags and Steady Aim and just never bothered to ever ADS at all.

@The Last Stand are you still finding people playing it online?

Yes. Team Deathmatch followed by Search & Destroy during the afternoon hours. I have to play more to find out. Zombies has some activity as well. Good luck finding a Call of the Dead or Shangri-la match, however. Platform is Xbox Live.

lots of the balancing in bo1 was a direct response to all the shit people hated in mw2.
people hated drop shooting so they added diving as a "feature"
quick scoping was made harder and a lot of the maps were difficult to snipe in.
grenade launchers sucked now and could not resupply ammo.
they teased that commando would be in the game just to fuck with people by making it a gun
no more killstreak stacking.

Tried to get online after not playing for a few months last night to play with friends.

Apparently the anti cheat causes my computer to hard reset as soon as it tries to do an online check now. I see posts on reddit saying that turning off Memory Integrity protections in Windows defender will get it to not restart but lol fuck that.

Ricochet, like all the other DRM software, is straight up malware and has root access on your computer. This alone is why I will never download any of the new COD games, I heard some of these anti-cheats are so cancerous that they stick around after you supposedly delete them, you have to go playing around with your registry editor and other fun stuff your average gamer might not have any experience with.

I cannot even play either Black Ops 1 or 2 online if I wanted to anymore. It won't connect me to the servers. Version 64.0.-1.0 for some reason. I hope my profile wasn't "banned" by a modder. I cannot find anything recent about it.

Tried to install IW4x to run bot matches in MW2, and the installer is somehow broken (missing dll), and I can't be bothered to try and fix it.

I heard the bots in MW2 were better than 2019, so I gave it another try. I just can't enjoy this game, even with bots. But it's true, the bots are indeed a little smarter than 2019. They'll drop-shot and do other basic maneuvers. It's not enough to save it. Even though bot matches don't have the annoying cosmetics, the terrible menus, bad aesthetics, random in-your-face DEI (especially the vitiligo chick), and terrible gun sounds make this game completely uninteresting to me.

So, I completed the Liberty Falls easter egg (thank you Director Mode.) It feels less like traditional Zombies and more like Ghosts' extinction mode. Which itself felt like Left 4 Dead. I get sensory overload from its UI. Icons just clutter the screen and map. So far, it's not doing it for me.

There's nothing fun about roaming a massive map where players can exploit movement and deploy with massively OP weapon builds. Isn't the point of battle royale is to survive with what is provided on the battlefield?
except the whole reason to play a COD based BR instead of any other competitor is that whole customization of loadouts and killstreaks. plus buying a loadout drop is part of the strat and what forces people to complete contracts.

It's amazing how these faggots that make this game still find ways to fuck it up. I love gun game. Yet some how in BO6 they found a way to make it the most useless trash that ever existed. Having to shoot people 6 times to kill them certainly is a blast I tell you what.
