Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Booted up CoD HQ for the first time in a while, I can confirm that I'm greeted to accept three legal summaries with text that asks if I'm in the age of majority and to have a parent confirm for you if you're not. (I won't even get to the point of why you'd let your child play an M-rated game.)

It did not ask me for my birth date. And Black Ops 6 already plastered my screen with some bullshit. The Stan Smith execution just plasters a PNG on your screen. And what's the point of these season cinematics if the multiplayer is just brand endorsements?

You can tell with Ghosts' writing that Infinity Ward or Activision had plans for Ghosts to be the start of some more storytelling, but it never came to be. It's not that I would not had liked a Ghosts 2; I hate it when they intentionally end on cliffhangers to tease you into something bigger than may not even pan out.

Makes sense; I believe that Ghosts REALLY would've benefitted from a second game - or SOME kind of follow-up - that continued the storyline, something to at least make the admittedly weird plotline all worth it in the end. I will say that it might've been a blessing in disguise that Ghosts never got a follow-up; given how much the "modern audience" despises Ghosts, it ironically means that Ghosts doesn't have very many issues these days.

Honestly, I'm glad that hackers are ruining the multiplayer experience. Maybe it will be a wake up call to these dipshits still playing it to pick up something better.

Part of the reason why I've been going into the older games as of recent; they aren't always perfect, but at least we won't be dealing with any of Activision's AI bullshit in them. In fact, the only older CoD that I've encountered unfair cheaters on is BO4; not unheard of to see people running builds that go over the Create-A-Class limit, or to see character with BO3 movement, aimbot, and throwing around unlimited Spectre swords.

Funniest thing is, it's not uncommon to run into cheaters in Ghosts... and they're unironically both really bad at the game, but also shocking fair. No one really runs Godmode, and they tend to be easy to spot - and kill - because they won't stop making hilariously noob mistakes; if anything, the cheaters used said cheats to auto unlock everything for themselves, and that's it. I think I only came across one cheater that actually put up a decent fight, and even then he got as good as he gave; really fair gunfighter.

I'm so confused.

And I haven't even booted into a match yet.

BO4 with advanced movement is actually pretty cool, BO4 was originally a sequel to BO3 that would expand on the advanced movement in that game but it was forced to be a boots on the ground game at the last minute. Even when Treyarch switched over to the more modern aesthetic, they still experimented with keeping the advanced movement and even tried to add it in as a killstreak or specialist exclusive ability but neither worked. This is why BO4 is the fastest boots on ground game with bunny hopping and sliding everywhere, cause it's an advanced movement game with it's wings clipped and it shows. Funny how any hacker can now turn advanced movement back on, that's how half-assed their attempts at grounding the game were.

Shitty game got overpriced shitty content. What's there to ponder?

If this sort of content was rarer, like the Beavis and Butthead event happening once in six months or the Doom shotgun bundle from MWII, I'd consider buying a bundle. The frequency is what's making all this unappealing.

Yeah, somehow I'm not surprised you would spend $30 a pop for this garbage.

BO4 with advanced movement is actually pretty cool,

Well, it's not so much that the advanced movement itself is the issue; it's the fact that the cheaters often have infinite hover and the Synaptic glide exhaust damage from IW that makes it all more annoying. Gets weird when you see a default Ruin throwing katanas at people while explosively farting so hard it launches them across a map while the fumes kill everyone.

That... might actually be the legit worst skin I've seen in the series. Genuinely. It actually looks lazy as fuck.

Also, found another video from a few days ago about someone reacting to a cheater in Warzone. The commentary from both is just outright shit - the streamer can't stop trying to sound like some hardass gangster and the peanut gallery can't stop making retarded comments either.

Relatedly; can someone tell me what 2-boxing, 3-boxing, and 4-boxing are supposed to even mean? I don't speak CoD kiddie.

You don't need to sell me on this, it sounds like hilarious fun. Last time I had so much fun with BO4 was when they had an Infected mode playlist, shame it was only temporary.

The DOOM shotgun bundle with the pixelated DOOM replica shotgun from MWII, I actually do want that but I'm not able TO buy it.

Now THAT's cool to have.

I don't even know who that is, but I can smell him from the screen.

That's another issue I have with modern CoDs; most of the really cool bundles are limited-time only - would've loved to grab the Godzilla bundles - while the more boring ones are kept in. CoD's going down the exact same FOMO route that Fortnite was; hilariously, even Fortnite's started to dial back the amount of FOMO shit in their game in various ways, but CoD is seemingly embracing all of it.

Oh, good, I thought that was just me that could smell the unwashed basement-dweller.

They've ruined a franchise and can't even keep the older games hacker free.
Companies that make far less money on software respond quickly to CVE notices to get a patch out to fix security issues on much older applications. With Activision? If the game made literally a billion dollars, but hey, it's 36 months old...well, uh, fuck you, I guess. But we're still selling it, and we're still running the servers. Caveat emptor.

The only thing Black Ops 6 has for it is FOMO through external content, but then the FOMO doesn't kick in when you don't even want to engage in the base game.

Speaking of which, one of the limited time game modes is something called Party Ops. That's where the several party modes (Gun Game, Sharpshooter) along with new ones (lethals only, snapshots with Spy Cam, melee only) cycle through every minute. I don't mind the goofy game modes themselves. It's, again, the lack of an cohesive identity.

Is Plutonium safe for CoD Zombies?

I still wanna experience TransZit, Mob of the Dead and Buried.

It's sad that they're making a sub-franchise out of this concept instead of Infinite Warfare.
Or another Ghosts. At least we'd KNOW it's not just another Black Ops or Modern Warfare for now. That said, I'd probably wouldn't trust Sledgehammer Games to do another Call of Duty after Vanguard and MWIII's wretched campaigns.

I mean, it has been a while since they last did a new CoD story that wasn't BO or MW; wouldn't mind seeing something new, though given that it's Sledgehammer I can't help but feel they're going to muck it up in some way. That, and we know the CoD kiddies are going to hate it because it isn't the same BO/MW slop that the previous 7 games have been, even if the game actually turns out to be decent, so...

Marital arts-type of kicks & chops?

is misogyny back in CoD?

You think they might be trying to expand the melee combat in CoD? No idea why, since they've already got a solid gunplay system. If they're trying to copy Fortnite's usage of melee... then it'll kill CoD even more, the FN community HATES the OP melee shit that Epic's pushed, and CoD shoving that in will not go well. If they're trying to add John Wick-style combat or something, that could work, but I have no idea how it would go at this point...

The 'big focus' movement almost makes me want to think of the parkour gameplay in Brink or Mirror's Edge; that could be a genuinely interesting direction for the series to go in, but knowing Activision, they're going to screw it up.
