Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

There's something about Black Ops 1 sniping that feels "heavier." Is it less aim assist? I can't put my finger on it.
The snipers are super slow compared to pretty much every other CoD game, I'm pretty sure it's one of those games where they tried to kill quickscoping too, I don't remember. The L96A1 also sounds like a cannon but the gun fucking sucks, all snipers in BO1 suck really.

When I played Black Ops 1, I never bothered with snipers and just used the Fal with a magnifying optic if I wanted to camp.

I didn't really like Black Ops 1 thinking about it. Garbage campaign, bad multiplayer maps, and a lot of anachronistic weapons that looked bad.

I feel like this video is fairly good representation of the campaign.

I'm legitimately surprised they just didn't graphically remake CoD 1 or 2 and monetize them out the ass. It'd probably still be better than Vanguard.

It's a shame really. CoD 2 imo was their best WWII game but also the game that made the franchise popular with normies and thus began it's downfall.
All those years of people begging for another WWII COD game just to get WWII and fucking Vanguard was such a bummer. How hard is it to make a good WWII game ffs, even Battlefield fucked it up.

Side note, considering how much remastering Activision has been doing with Modern Warfare, I wish they would do a updated PC port for Finest Hour and Big Red one, I tried emulating FH a couple years ago but it ran like absolute ass, which is a shame since it was my first ever COD.

It has gotten better now that weapons are not tied to loot boxes anymore. Well, there are blueprints...
I actually tried picking up MW2019 recently since MWII looks vaguely promising and a bunch of people have heaped praise upon it, so I thought, "Why not?".

And fuck me man, the game really wants me to hate it and I haven't even played it yet. Mandatory Warzone install of 83 GB just for campaign? What's worse is apparently the game has been plagued by laggy cutscenes across all platforms for years, and it seems I'm stuck with it too. I mean, they're completely pre-rendered and they couldn't figure out a fix for the damn thing nor did they care enough to squash it in the last 3 years.

Can't really say I'm optimistic about this one.

All the protags are white males so you can't have that. While we're throwing quarters into the water fountain, give me a graphical remake of the OG Medal of Honor.

The campaign takes itself way too seriously. Its marketing of "ripped straight from the headlines" was that: marketing. Nothing about it was shocking. I don't even understand why Russia has such an uproar about it.

Easy solution for the wokies, let us play as a gurkha in the Burma Theater. Those guys were hardcore as fuck and were greatly feared, and it'd be in a campaign that as far as I'm aware isn't in any WWII game and is hardly talked about so it's something new, only downside for them is you aren't fighting the evil whitey, but evil Nippon instead (which were way worst tbf).
Also extra side note, I find it real lame how most WWII games are just either Americans in the French countryside, or Soviets in a blown out Soviet town, rarely do we get deviation from those two, outside of SAS stuff in various locales. It was fun seeing the North Africa campaign in 2 and Big Red One, I loved that mission where you defend the village at night with flares going off and huge groups of Germans coming at you.

I'm one of those, "Why can't we get a game from the Wehrmacht perspective?" Types so you're preaching to the choir.

I'd fucking love a ghurka campaign too, those mother fuckers didn't fuck around.

Oh I'd also absolutely love a Wehrmacht campaign, but we'll almost definitely never see one since people love to prop up WWII games with "you get to kill le evil dirty Nazis!!". Only game I can think of that has a Werhmacht campaing is Company of Heroes 1, but that was rather short iirc.

In my head I would love to see two WWII games, a Axis focused game and a Pacific focused campaign.

Axis would mainly be Wehrmacht, and maybe either the Italians or even the Finnish (they can easily throw in a obligatory stelf mission featuring the king himself Simo Häyhä, sneaking around a snowy forest to take out a Soviet commander, have a mission ambushing a Soviet convoy, etc.)

Pacific can either be the usual Americans (and maybe the British and Aussies) against Imperial Japan, or do something like a ghurka campaign. If the former, most missions could be as the Allies and every now and then have a mission from the Japanese POV. Imagine the first mission being the Battle of Baatan, a horrible defeat that can have the ending cutscene be your guy dying in the Death March, setting the tone for the game. Later on maybe have something like the Battle of Saipan (the "Pacific D-Day", it happened two weeks after D-Day), start out as the Americans in the first part then end the mission as the Japanese during the final suicide banzai charge, etc.

I can go on and on, but my point is there's so much potential and stuff to show with WWII games, I don't want gay sci-fi bullshit, give me my horrific historical stuff.

Vanguard doesn't even have the decency to feature armies beyond "My Team vs Enemy Team", an Axis campaign is never happening.

"My Team vs Enemy Team" is so fucking stupid, I almost consider it worse than how you can mutilate guns with asinine attachments.

It's never coming back with how the character system works. Every character is apart of factions and levels in MW19 have dedicated team announcers, but you're still just Coalition VS Allegiance, which are generic fucking names. One thing that I can actually give BOCW with this though is that the factions are NATO and Warsaw, which is pretty cool despite the characters being actually kind of generic. Really the thing that I miss the most are the awesome spawn themes.
