Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Vanguard doesn't even have the decency to feature armies beyond "My Team vs Enemy Team", an Axis campaign is never happening.

"My Team vs Enemy Team" is so fucking stupid, I almost consider it worse than how you can mutilate guns with asinine attachments.
Even Battlefield V had Allies vs. Axis at least.

This may sound like a stretch, but I feel Vanguard devalues WW2 with that move.

I heard the game is no longer set in WWII, instead it's the 70s where everyone is actually trying to kill each other over treasure.

They're still using butchered WWII weapons of course, in case the situation wasn't already stupid enough. What the fuck is this game?

Well, there's Godzilla and Snoop Dogg. So, time warp?

I don't even want another CoD WW2 game ever again. Vanguard was a downright mockery of the setting and linear shooter.
WW2 games in general are way too played out now, it's rarely anything new. Any obscure theatre is ignored for the Nazis (even then it's just generic german soldiers at this point) and maybe the Japanese versus the Americans and/or maybe the British. It's boring, the guns are boring, and the new CoD formula just doesn't fit the era anymore.

Speaking of eras...
All I know is that I never want to see Sledgehammer tackle WWII again, or any historical setting for that manner.
I seriously think that Sledgehammer wanted to make another futuristic game like Advanced Warfare 2 or something similar. Just look at all of the retarded futuristic skins, especially for the weapons where more than half of the skins turn guns into laser guns, it's fucking crazy. At this point I'd think an Advanced Warfare 2 would be alright... If it was a prequel. You can still have insane movement with the sliding and super sprint, but leave the exo jumps and abilities behind. In all honesty, I really like the art direction of AW, specficially the campaign. Some of the guns were really cool, like that burst rifle that 3D prints ammo, and the armor for the soldiers looked pretty cool, especially for Atlas.

I actually liked the idea of Atlas in AW, they looked really cool...

The remaster didn't do it any favors because of its monetization.
I made the mistake of buying it after it was untied to Infinite Warfare. Holy shit did they squander a potentially good game on PC. Campaign portion is fine but the multiplayer is a fucking nightmare.

No dedicated servers it was all P2P on people’s janky PC. Micro transaction guns that costed about $40-$60 in loot crates to unlock. The Honey Badger-ish carbine was the equivalent of the M4 but higher damage so everyone who had it, used it. Teams would rarely autobalance so when someone would try multiplayer at the first couple of games and get beamed by DLC weapons, they would quit and the teams remained unbalanced.

The limited player base consisted of 40+ year olds that had discord servers to encourage play and the few teenagers that hopped on and would listen to their bullshit. The jist of them was you friended everyone that played on steam so when match got started, people could join quick via steam friends “join game” instead of relying on the retarded match making since it may not get you into the only active game in the entire world.

Concerning the Discords, I accidentally pissed off a 60 something year old retiree of the Army when I called him a bot (he was 1-11 in TDM and was camping). He went off on some tirade about firing almost all the guns in real life and I should show some respect or some shit. I found his LinkedIn, discovered he worked logistics in the Michigan National Guard, and thanked him for his service dodging bullets in Detroit.

It was the Mech Warrior of CoD. Such a waste.

Looks like we are getting a Terminator crossover in this World War II...I mean...1970's mercenary game. *rolls eyes*

Why this wasn't done with 1980's Cold War that had the superior Action Heroes event I'll never understand...

Edit: Apparently this entire season has futuristic outfits/skins for characters and weapons. WTF?
Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next product.

Yeah, objectively, this is THE worst CoD yet. Why even do WW2?

It's like they have an internal goal to make the game as far from WWII as they can get away with. Snoop Dogg and T-800s (assuming they don't force in the crappy one from that lousy Dark Fate movie like Gears of War did) are a-ok, but god forbid you can shoot at Wehrmacht or IJA soldiers in a supposed "WWII" game.

I think I'll just stick shooting T-800s in Terminator Resistance, that's a game that actually bothers to treat its setting with respect.

At least the Terminator event in GR Breakpoint kind of worked since the island was full of drones and future tech, but CoD Vanguard? Really?

They couldn't make their contempt for the setting any more crystal clear. Just watch, Thundercats and He-Man will appear too.

i fucking hate this game, these devs suck, a new mode they're testing. exfiltration, it takes 5 minutes to find a fucking match and average playtime is also 5 fucking minutes. the xp and battle pass progeression is fucking nil as well. honestly its a great idea for a mode, but its basically just regular resurgence but with a unique win condition that unless you grief won't ever matter until literally there are only 3 teams left, honestly i'm more pissed about how long it takes to get matches than the mode itself, only real complaint is that its too short with only 15 teams, honestly BR is past its good point, the 100=player matches barely fill in any game and there's a reason the funniest ones are 45 players. for fucks sake battlefield couldn't field 64v64, and i know warzone with clash its not truely 50v50 but 40v40. people timing out or just away from computer means its just 32v32 honestly. i think the player count is dropping real fucking quick which is why they're doing way more shitty events, stuff like the godzilla v kong, snoop, terminator bullshit. because cold war was surpringly low on that stuff, and diehard/rambo was a truely rare neat event because of it.

obviously agree on ww2, but wasn't it supposed going to be some weird alternate ww2 with wonder weapons and other crazy shit? but yes it does seem like ww2 was moved up a year and all this crap is stuff that was supposed to be the stuff they would do in year 2 of the cold war era warzone. godzilla, snoop, and terminator would all make much more sense then.if they really wanted to be smart they could have done some DLC during the gap year, not just map packs but stuff to enhance the story line. its odd because the last time they tried ww2 it flopped hard and they were allowed to do the nazi stuff back then.

again just from how hard it is to find players during the overnight hours, its clear this shit isn't going well for the studios. if it takes 5 minutes to find 45 players, imagine how long it will take finding 150. its clear that BR isn't working out as well as hoped in terms of player count, this year is getting hated on by everyone, for fucks sake they had to add a fast travel to the main map just to get people to stop whining about how huge it is. at this point its a combination of intertia and my own laziness that i keep playing, the skill level of players has seemingly dropped hard too.

That's my thing. I don't expect Call of Duty to be super ultra realistic/serious, especially when it comes to multiplayer. Hell, I thought the 80's Action Heroes event was the best time in Cold War and Warzone.

But everything with Vanguard has been such a tonal clash. None of this feels right. It's not *just* that they are going to be throwing Terminators in, but also giving futuristic shit to the WWII/70's operators? It just seems like no thought was put into it other than "it might sell"

This has become far more retarded than whichever Battlefield game had BIPOC Muslims in wheelchairs in combat.

Of all the WW2 inaccuracies in Vanguard, the scene with Kinsley being captured and bragging to his faction of "marrying their women" has to be the worst one yet.

There's nothing saying one has to be 100% historically accurate when telling fiction based on real events. However, that story must be believable, authentic, at the least, engaging.

Vanguard does NONE of that. The whole plot is a "progressive" fan fiction of THEIR interpretation of WW2. Even Battlefield V did that better, and that story was bad.

The only call of duty that I ever played was Big Red One
And you played arguably the best WW2 Cod. For when that game was made it has a nice amount of variety and locations you see throughout the campaign. The characters are cheesy but the good kind that you actually form a bond with over missions instead of cut scenes.

It also has an amazing plane mission that has you operate all parts of a B-24 Liberator.

And the D-Day level is nuts.

All the way to the snow covered German hills to take out the V2 rockets.

I kind hate the plane mission, rbh

Never forget that the Vanguard story is literally just Mason, Woods and Adler watching a demented Butcher ramble about nonsense in a secret Nazi bunker in Verdansk in the 80's
