Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I'm pretty sure the only reason they would take 2023 off is because the Cold War debacle screwed the whole system up. It's also why Vanguard got pushed out in the sorry state it was in. They were not going to take IW off Modern Warfare II to fix another Sledgehammer mistake and Treyarch couldn't fix Vanguard because they were already working on Cold War.
I think it was more IW told Activision that MW2 was no where near ready for release, and Activision could either not release a cod that year or fuck over another studio.

I thought it was either Cold War or Vanguard that got cobbled together to make up for Sledgehammer & Raven's breakup?
It was Cold War. It wasn't a Black Ops game originally and seemingly was just a Vietnam game.

Modern Warfare II is releasing this year though. Next year is the rumored(?) year without a CoD.

Bit of a random comment by me here, but having now seen the Macross Frontier films in theaters, I now have the unusual desire to replay Infinite Warfare.

Seriously, that game’s Jackal sequences are about the closest you can get to getting to play an FPS version of that anime series. Just one more reason why I feel that entry is a lot better than the fans make it out to be.

the new event is glitchy as shit, a box for a scavenger contract straight up wasn't there. they're also lying hard about golden plunder. they increased the totals by 5 of everything but outside of 20% more players they just pushed things back to how they were before they doubled totals. you don't get a bigger percentage of the killed's cash if they die than before.

the opjectives you have to complete are glitchy as shit too, either these are poorly worded as hell or the numbers are off because i got mercenary vault completion despite only doing it once.

the ATMs and vault are a waste of fucking time, when they did a similar vault set up in warzone with red keycards, you got more than 10% of the objective, which doesnt mean much to you, but because of the hassle it truely is bullshit to give you such little reward, the ATMs max out at 2% of the objective if literally no one touched them, meaning that at all other times literally any crate you open will give you more cash.

now i know most of you don't give a fuck but it does bother me personally, especially because they fucking lied. outside of increasing totals and changing the loot from cash to gold which does stick out a fuckload easier in the dense jungle map its not only not different, its actually slightly worse overall, their gimmicks are lies, which would be a neat idea about greed but still its bullshit to trick people like they did.

Raven released warzone content without bug testing it first? Completely unheard of.

There was a game called Robotech: Invasion, I think that was a FPS.
I think I watched someone play IW once and the space battles looked like your usual CoD helicopter minigame except with 200% more "PRESS X TO POP FLARE"

And I actually kinda liked the game.

The Jackal sequences in IW are actually a lot more in-depth than the typical chopper sequences in other games. Not only do you get to customize the fighter's weaponry and the like, but the actual gameplay gives you freedom of movement in the battlefield, as you chasing down other fighter jets, alongside massive battleships, and you do have to be quick to both lock on to the enemies and keep yourself from being tailed.

When combined with the amount of missiles flying everywhere, it truly does feel like something right out of Macross. All it's missing is some sort of epic J-Pop track like this.

IW's campaign is underrated. Not perfect and the villain had as much charisma as a piece of cardboard but it did a lot of cool stuff. It felt like it got screwed over because of all the advanced movement backlash.

IW's multiplayer was complete trash though. It was a weird case where it seemed like all the passion and effort went into the campaign while the multiplayer was just some shit they phoned in because it's COD so of course it needs multiplayer.

Which is why I'd be very curious to see what they could do with a modern COD game that was single player only. But who fucking knows if Activision/Microsoft would ever allow that to happen.

IW multiplayer was trash and a reskin of BO3. Imagine if they actually took the time to craft a great multiplayer experience based on the campaign and the IW universe? Let's say, each team has a ship and they have to send fighters to defend it, dogfights everywhere in the Solar system, or have a BF rush or conquest game where you have to take over every area of the command ship. They had another tier of "RPG" mecanics where players could enlist and unlock more stuff, they never used it as a meta game where players would fight for a squad/PMC and at the end of a week or month they earn stuff.
I really wish they would come back to that universe again. Maybe as a spin-off with less CoD and esports shit.

For me, I didn't think the multiplayer for IW was horrible, just underwhelming. Like, why didn't they have a mode dedicated to Jackal combat, or have maps that took place entirely in space? I mean, the opportunities for insanely creative modes were right there, and they didn't take em.

Then again, given how much hatred and snark they got for simply showing the setting, I wonder if that's why they decided to play it safe. Didn't want to have the fanboys come down any harder on them. Really makes me sad how much flack they got from both the fanbase and the BF1 fanboys (egged on by EA).

Even so, I still on the whole will defend IW as one of the more underrated entries. Course, again, that could just be because of how much the campaign kicked major butt, and gave me flashbacks to anime like Macross and the like.

I think Infinite Warfare introduced the whole pay to win lootboxes with weapon drops.

TTK was very short. Hated it.

Wow, you're an oldhead. Are you into CoD or shooters?

There's something about Black Ops 1 sniping that feels "heavier." Is it less aim assist? I can't put my finger on it.
I not really into COD, i like more old school shooters like doom or turok

Also the event they're having this weekend, it also coincides with them upping battlepass progression, so despite playing just this weekend i'm halfway finished. speaking of the event, the 100 kills in one specific sector of the battle royale map is bullshit, because of how respawns work in plunder you're fucked if the rest of your party isn't also trying to furfill that achievement. 100 kills is also a hassle and a half to do, the small space and shitload of people means you can down someone only for someone else to get credit for the kill beyond that requiring it to complete the event means just doing plunder 10-20 times to finish that one objective which can not also complete any of the others.

And beyond that the event itself is bugged, so once you complete all the obnoxious challenges it doesn't mean shit. Also they decided to alt the way they give XP as well, like for plunder because of the match length and way XP is handled it used to be easy as shit to get at least 60k xp a match, even up to 80k xp if you did extremely well. now its about 20k xp so no more 3 levels every 15 minutes.

again none of you care, but these are the types of complaints that will get people to quit leading to bad news for the franchise itself.

It also might have helped if it wasn't a reskin. I tried it after avoiding CoD post-MW3 and surely enough, one of the "future" weapons reloaded just like the damn Commando. I can't speak for every other weapon, but if I noticed that I'm sure there were others.

Personally, the campaign wasn't impressive to me. Maybe if Killzone or Titanfall didn't exist, I would've thought differently, but for me it felt like such a lackluster effort. Both aforementioned titles did stuff wrong, but IW just screamed by-the-numbers. Space opera sci-fi just wasn't Infinity Ward's forte, from hindsight.

Can’t exactly say I agree with you.

Maybe it’s my inner anime fan speaking here, but I found it to be very similar to stuff like Gundam and Macross, hence why I was engaged from beginning to end. That, alongside it having one of the best robot sidekicks in a game this side of BT-7274, the Jackal sequences, the zero-gravity shootouts, and the extremely memorable final mission.

While I do agree that other games like Titanfall 2 have better campaigns on the whole, IW’s was still very fun, at least in my eyes.
