Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Bloatware looks like its going to continuously get worse and worse :(
I suspect since console don't have the option/ability for modular installations, activision can't be arsed to do it themselves (as in simply splitting it so it could count as DLC). which reminds me can you even selectively uninstall DLC on console?

because from what I remember IW on PC had the option to install for example zombies only (which hilariously didn't work unless you installed the rest of mp, thx activision).

Since MW2019, COD games have been modular. You can install Singleplayer, Multiplayer and Survival modes 100% separately. The issue is it's like 10GB for SP, 5GB for survival and 125GB for MP BECAUSE THE ASSHOLES HAS STRAPPED EVERYTHING TO MP. YOU CAN'T EVEN PLAY SURVIVAL WITHOUT SOME OF MULTIPLAYER INSTALLED.

the reason MP/Warzone takes up so much space is bad coding, i remember in verdask a huge chunk of the time entire buildings were literally 100% copy pasted around the map, much like pokemon each copy was its own file instead of just doing it the usual space saving way.

its pretty clear just from leaderboards that player count has dropped like a stone, 2 years ago they were experimenting with 200 player br. now they're focusing on 45 player modes.

also shout out to the challenges this season, one of the last ones being to win a match in an exclusive mode that only lasted the first 3 weeks, so if you weren't already at level 150 by that point you were fucked.

also zombie mode was neat but sucked overall, so many people leave that the 3rd zombie respawn either doesn't happen or happens too late to make a difference, and unless you manage to kill with a takedown you won't get enough vials to become human again once its down to 10 or less players.

its clear they're runinning out of ideas or gimmicks to keep people comig back.

CoD, Battlefield, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Sonic, and many other giant AAA franchises have tried their respective stupid gimmicks for a long time, and audiences keep leaving these franchises until something new or refreshing happens, and even then they happen to be just as gimmicky or divorce the original idea as to why we loved these original games in the first place.

Would be great if I didn't have to delete games so I had 150gb available to install a 5gb update. I hope that MW2/Warzone 2 just completely cuts all of the old content and bloat. The game is poorly organised and has more bloatware than my grandparents computer after they've tried Googling Facebook games.
Then people will be complaining about their purchased content not being transferrable to MWII.

But yeah, why does one game need so much space when the mass majority of it is copy/paste?

It's going to be much longer than that, but it will happen.

because making code efficient is a lost art, once game companies realized how quickly storage was expanding for games it stopped being a big deal, we all know the pokemon story, but in general data compression was never that big of a deal for most programmers and only a handful actually can do it better than some compression program.

also it should be obvious most of this crap won't be transferable to MWII. i'm more shocked that game will be coming out this year, i know warzone is dying but still.

In 2030 AAA games will be sold physically again, in the form of an SSD inside the game box that only has the game on it.

That is, if the WEF doesn't ban those completely, due to video games "not complying with their vision of the World".

the new terminator mode is ok, its obvious it was supposed to take place last year with cold war, for fucks sake so many loadouts are weapons from that game.

my biggest gripe is that its literally Fortnite rules in warzone. the absurdly long TTK combine with how few guns there are means its a near copy of fortnite without the materials.

literally like in that game most people just use ARs and the subs take way too long to kill a healthy player, the shotguns and sniper are useless and you're only armed with a 50cal handgun.

they got the TTK and extremely low weapon count of fortnite. its fucking amazing. outside of the gulag gimmick its the same game.

This Terminator event sucks dick IMO and I'm not sure who wanted Warzone to be even more bullet spongy. Sniper headshots don't kill anymore and you basically have to magdump to kill anyone.

I pre ordered the 100 buck version of this game solely because of the 50 tier boost
In what level of coonsoom am I on
Play the campaign a week early, which will likely be beaten in 6-7 hours.

NGL, I'm actually hyped for MWII. Maybe it's nostalgia from MW2 13 or so years ago. But, given how the industry is going with monetization, I'm proceeding with caution. Plus, if/when MS finally acquires Activision, MWII would likely get released on Game Pass Day 1.

That would be a major boost for MS and Game Pass. CoD, even at its worst, moves consoles.

Funny enough, my hype for MWII has dropped significantly. I think I'm still going to buy it, but I'm not pre ordering it and might even wait a week or two.
