Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
They were never going to delay MWII just to give Sledgehammer an extra year for Vanguard since they weren't even willing to give them an extra year for Vietnam (which became Cold War).

I enjoyed Cold War for what it was, but their chance to have a year off was with Modern Warfare I and Warzone. They should have just let Sledgehammer do whatever the fuck it was they were going to do and let MWII pick up the slack. As it is now they have a game that had a lukewarm reception and a dreadful reception and now if anything is wrong with MWII people are going ot jump on it like hyenas.
I feel Cold War was judged too harshly. That was developed during the pandemic. It's amazing it came through as it did. However, I blame Activision for not letting both games exist as their own entities. They could've offered different CoD experiences and let them coexist.

Agreed it was judged too harshly. Not only was it done during the pandemic but to rework the foundations that Sledgehammer started into what Cold War became in less than a year is pretty amazing in this day and age.

I'm already seeing the issues with not letting the different "series" be their own entities. People bitched that Cold War was too fast, now I see people bitching that Modern Warfare II (or at least Warzone 2) is playing too slow.

They're pretty different styles of games that even so called fans of the series seem to not pick up on.

I had way more fun with Cold War than Modern Doorfare 2019 tbh.
I think the scorestreak system is better than the killstreak. With the scorestreak you feel like you are actually helping the team.
The black ops aesthetic from Cold War gave it an 80s series vibe. One of the best campaigns since the original Black Ops.

From what I watched so far, it's very similar to mw2019 but there's some improvements. Definitely seems to be much fewer doors, slide cancelling is no longer possible and dolphin diving isn't worth it, so no more spazzing.

I heard there's a character creator with WW2. Does that mean I could roleplay as a female POC Nazi?
COLD War was amazing for making a justifiable reason for a woman elite solider in the 80s (russian brainwashing)

the MP was dogshit at first, you had a dozen guns and a half dozen maps. but the plot was amazing, with more choice and paths than fucking cyberpunk. it was an FPS that was more of an RPG than we've had in AAA gaming in over a decade.

So can you install MW2 without having to install Warzone? Because the beta looks like you need Warzone installed to play it.

If not, that really sucks. Warzone and its all-consuming file size is an absolute pain in the ass, and tethering MW's access to it is a deal breaker for a currently-consolefag like me.

So. The beta was actually really fun.
I'll say this, the gunsmith is gonna take some time to learn, but it's nice. Very nice.

The new mode, invasion? Absolutely fucks. It's TDM ground war with AI and I'll be honest, when in the presentation, they mention the AI being good, I sorta scoffed. Reminded me of FISH AI.

It's all fun and games until I'm ganked by two AI soldiers.

It's a fun time and I'm not regretting my pre order. The fucking audio though.
I have a pair of 400 dollar mixing headphones that I got from a friend and god damn, playing with those is such a fucking trip.

I've played the beta, I stopped after 2 games. It's not for me, I think I'm going to skip this CoD.
CoD should not have a freaking code of conduct.

Reminds me of Homefront: The Revolution. Basically, it's unlock the base of a gun to transform it into other guns.

I'm liking how attachments are universally unlocked for a weapon class (variant?). That should make weapon grinding manageable.

I wish that there'd be a limit of attachments. I worry about weapon imbalance a la Vanguard.

At the end of the day, everyone's going to run configs with instant ADS and no recoil. I ultimately came to dislike Gunsmith in MW 2019 because guns no longer had any identity. Why bother even trying to play with the M14 when any given assault rifle is easier to get long-range kills with?

I vastly prefer the way MW1 did and the way MW2 will handle the gun attachments than how CW did. CW has attachments that are just straight up 100% better than an attachment you unlocked earlier in it's progression, and even single gun has the exact same attachments in the exact same order with the exact same effects. I do not know the names of the attachments or their effects, just how many slots down the good one is.

I feel like everything in MW2 is in place to make it a great game but IW never gives a shit about reasonable feedback, so it will never get there. The loud footsteps, slow movement and strafing speed, short TTK and terrible visibility during gunfights heavily encourages camping. I went back to play MW19 ground war and it's simply a much more fun game, despite its own share of problems coming from IW's "we know best what fun is" approach.

I liked the beta, hit lvl 30 right before it ended, I don't really like the menu system though it feels consolized.

I'm also pleased to say I am no longer racist. I had to agree to not be racist to play the game, so I'm reformed from my "n word" usage.

the heros v villians in warzone sucked, still didn't get those tier skips they promised. tomorrow is another battle pass 2x xp, but at this point who needs it.

warzone 2 isn't going to have any of the modes besides BR, which i personally hate because they truely were inventive, even the holiday stuff like with the zombies was neat overall, personally wished they did more with the night modes, the tracers and lazers looked amazing at night.

the stuff like bringing in sticks&stones or just plunder or the escort modes were all absurdly fun, still won't forget being able to headshot the 2nd truck's gunner using the tiny opening in the first trucks gunner's empty seat from 50 meters away.

even the stuff with the AI soldiers is stuff they original did in the newest map they released, if you could kill off these NPCs you got a fuckload of stuff.

I didn’t play the beta but I saw gameplay. Kinda underwhelmed. Not bad but just seems like MW19 again for the most part.

Gotta say though, IW’s responses to people's issues have been hilarious. Basically “We hear you, but we don’t give a shit”. The hell was the point of taking feedback then?

Still going to sell like crazy regardless.

The state of modern First-Person-Shooters everyone. Doom Eternal, great as it is, barely made a dent in FPS now that CoD is gonna sell like hotcakes (again) and Destiny is still alive and hemorraging players at the same time.

I had fun with...Ground War? The one with the big map with AI characters.

TDM was annoying as fuck. Who's brilliant idea was it to take the worst parts of core (annoying long TTK) and mix it with Hardcore (no fucking map)? Because you might as well not have the fucking map if it's only going to show you player locations when you use UAV's.

I really hope they don't decide to scrap Hardcore in favor of this weird hybrid shit. It's the entire reason I'm holding off from buying the game on release now.

Also what the fuck is with half the operators wearing masks now? I thought that was just going to be some dumb pre order thing but then I start up multiplayer and it looks like that is their default look. That shit worked for Cold War with it trying to be grown up GI Joe and shit but for Modern Warfare? I dunno...
