Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

They want you to just ignore the "future" stuff, I believe, because the shit went so far off the rails by Black Ops 4.

Remember, despite Black Ops 4 not having a campaign, it still had lore and story behind it. Lore and story that lead to everyone coming back as some sort of weird clone because they were still trying to figure out how to Fortnite/PUBG their shit while keeping it all within "lore".

That's why you have Clone Woods fucking Masons evil granddaughter, and Clone Mason and Clone Reznov having a reunion, and Masons good granddaughter becoming some avenging Cyborg.

And also, everything that happened in Black Ops 4 apparently takes place before Black Ops 3 but is never mentioned in Black Ops 3?

I'm not 100% positive, because it went all over the place and was fucking goofy. I think they've all but abandoned having any sort of solid narrative with Warzone/Multiplayer modes now because of how goofy the shit got in both of their attempts with it. That's why now they can just throw in Soap and you're just supposed to kind of ignore he fucking died. (or maybe there is something there and I just can't be assed to pay attention, it's probably that)

Adler might just be getting framed or used as a scapegoat, being a good person to do that to due to the Perseus brainwashing in the post-launch WZ story. That might be the point of the whole "the truth lies, trust nobody, if you want the truth then search in the dark" spiel. But yeah, if the new cutscene has him in a wheelchair, at the very least Menendez destroying his kneecaps should be canon.

Seems like it, I wouldn't be shocked if they retcon some aspects of it, but at least they aren't treating Cold War and the BO6 as total reboots. I wonder if they'll remake the missions from BO2 in BO6 just to fill in people who didn't play BO2 or if it'll be a throwaway line somewhere.
 
Damn, I guess this means that it's canon that Cold War's MC
Fucking dies after doing all that shit just to be killed off as a loose end by Adler.

I'm assuming warzone story? I never played that shit so I wouldn't know anything about it.
 
Call of Duty 3 is the only PvP shooter I know that depicts the swastika in multiplayer. Play Capture the Flag, Allies have the American flag; Axis have the swastika.


I know there's Zombies for World at War and Black Ops, but I'm not counting that.

We might have a good old FPS war going on again!
That's right, ever since both Gaylo and Battlequeer shot themselves in the foot(or head, in case of Battlefield), COD has had the monopoly on mainstream shooters despite being complete and utter unplayable garbage. Well, XDefiant has been out for what, two weeks now? And it's already causing quite a stir within the COD community.
Let's go back to the launch of a game: It's no secret that COD and Activision has been very nervous about the game, even before it's launch, and why wouldn't they? It threatens to break their monopoly. It reminds me of how Pokemon was scared of Yokai Watch back in Gen 7 and more recently of Palworld. Anyways, a single day after release of XDefiant, COD drops the "killshot" of announcing BO6. That game might have meant something 10 years ago, but now? More people are wary and concerned more than they are excited.
Well, XDefiant is taking note: apparently tomorrow we will see BO6 gameplay for the first time. Two days from now, one day after the release of that trailer, we will see XDefiant release a Season 1 trailer. See the pattern here?

I don't really care which game you play, but I am glad that we are seeing some competition again. BO6 is going to suck just out of the modern COD bloat alone(always online, SBMM, COD HQ/Warzone attached like a cancer, hundreds of gigabytes large download, hackers everywhere, microtransactions nearing or over 100$ ect.), and no matter how good it is you just can't beat the price of nothing, as XDefiant is free to play. This will definitely force Activision to make some changes and add content fans actually want, well that or continue to stick their fingers in their ears and pretend everything is fine. In that case, they will get BTFO even harder than MW6/2023/70$ DLC with 100$+ microtransactions is being currently. Either way, we win.

My thoughts on BO6 haven't changed: I could not give a single fuck about that game, I think I am all burned out on the franchise after all these years. This might be COD in name but it definitely isn't the game I remember, I am very glad I just let go and moved on to other games. If I ever need to scratch that itch again, I have XDefiant and I am sure there are other shooters as well, COD means nothing to me if this is how Activision is going to treat the franchise. Only thing that will get me back is Tranzit 2.0 and that's in spite of the game, not because I am excited to play yet another COD game.

Black Ops 6 has been revealed today from the Xbox Games Showcase.


A couple details from the direct caught my eye, if you want to read about all of them, here's their blog.

BO6 will have a new movement system called "onmimovement" present in all game modes. You would be able to sprint, slide, dodge in any direction akin to "a true action hero." Movements can be chained together interchangably. I worry that will be exploited over time in multiplayer.

Carry Forward, except for the Black Ops 6 preorder pack, will NOT be in Black Ops 6 "to deliver a true, authentic Black Ops experience." However, they said it would "carry forward" into Warzone. I know they emphazied Black Ops 6 to be like an action hero, so outlandish cosmetics are not out of the question.

The prestige system from legacy Call of Duties will return with ten levels of prestige followed by Prestige Master. Treyarch said they would retool it.

HUD elements can be rearranged for the user. Want to move ammo/grenade indicators to the center? Go ahead? Want the minimap to be on another corner? There you are. I hope you can scale them as well.

I dumped 16 years worth of CoD releases a year ago, including cleaning them off my store and nuking Battle. Since nothing runs on Proton they can add all of the 897 asexual pride badges until they collapse post-Awokenening and then realize they need to update this title to run on Proton.
 
I have never understood the appeal of the Prestige system. Is it really fun to lose all your progress 10+ times?

yeah because you get to ride the dopmaine treadmill again and again of unlocking things. I also thought they usually balanced this out by letting you keep one of your guns with all unlocks

Sometimes, it's fun to go through it again and be recognized for your extensive playtime.

Has anybody here ever prestiged in CoD before?

Morons never fucking learn. Reddit is really slurping the game right now, especially the zombies subreddit. A few weeks/months after release these people will be crying about how bad the game is and swearing to never preorder again, only to repeat the same mistake with the next game.

Why even bother preordering it? Subscribing to Game Pass is gonna give you the same perks, and you can find keys for Ultimate online for as little as $8. Get a 1-month key on the month of release and try the game out. If you like it, buy it through (PC) Xbox, the Game Pass discount will balance the price out. If you don't, congratulations, you didn't waste $70 like a dumbass.
 
Are they going to implement the omnimovement system into Warzone? I imagine that will throw a lot of people off.
