Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Odds are they'll just make a game with their own IP instead, some of the tweets seem to be suggesting as much. Something like that wouldn't have turned as many eyes as something with the CoD title. Now that they've done this, "game from the people who made that C&D'd MW2 mod" is gonna hold more value, and will likely get even more attention from people who wanna try being against Activision, like Xdefiant did. I'm not really sure if I even see what the appeal of this was -- all I saw video-wise was retards quickscoping bots, feels like MP would just be a mess infinitely sweatier than what people think BO6's will be.

Kinda expected this to happen, it's been well-documented that Activision's especially protective of the CoDs that have fully active MTX in them. To be fair though, it required the actual game, and it breathed a surge of purchases to a title that surely wasn't getting any real buys anymore otherwise. The main audience for this is also pretty much nostalgia shills, most of whom likely wouldn't buy BO6/get Game Pass anyway, so I doubt this would've affected their long-term revenue enough for that to be the reason.

That's what I don't get. You'd need a legitimate copy of MWR to access this mod, conversion, however you'd call it. More people would buy MWR, those sales would go directly to Activision. Actually, I DO get it. They don't want modders upstaging their own products.
I dont feel any remorse the mod was 100% done and they decided they want to act like "real" devs and gave youtubers first dibs and then told us plebs to wait a week. How are modders so smart yet so utterly retarded?
I'm guessing they wanted more publicity.

It's not like MW2 on either platform is completely playable online.

ICYMI: Activision has sent a Cease and Desist to the H2 Multiplayer Mod, the fanmade MW2 remaster made in Modern Warfare Remaster's engine:

MWR was on sale before H2M-Mod was set to be released and now people are refunding en masse, imagine if Jewctivision pulls the C&D just for people to buy it again for double the price!

EDIT: Oops, didn't see the post above, late react me all you want.

The H2M project is now dead [original link], the site down and as far as I can tell their binaries were not made public. When will people learn to stop making closed-source mods, announcing them before they're finished for influencer asspats and running everything through Discord channels attached to their real names and addresses? Never apparently.

Funny part is this comes in the middle of the active refund window from the games last sale, and there's been a consistent rise in playtime approaching the project's launch, so Microsoft-Activision would rather shoot that in the foot and risk a wave of refunds than let H2M release.
The trick is that you shadow drop this kind of stuff, and then have a torrent mirror for things to make it difficult for copyright holders to take it down.

There was a leak for it, the files are in the desc of this video. I am trying it out, 21.4gb tho
Probably gonna give this a shot on a separate bottles prefix in the slight chance that this is somehow infected. If this person truly did leak the mod, then that's nuts. Just hoping it ships with dedicated server tools.

I hate this take of "They were using assets from MW2CR!!!!!" If that's their big fucking stickup then why the fuck hasn't Activision done something about the trillions of custom zombies maps that steal from other fucking games, are these niggers retarded?

Halfway expected this, to be honest. I got the game in anticipation for the mod, but I genuinely like MWR so I'm not as ass blasted as a lot of people are when this project was taken down. I also thought that the DMCA thing was fake, mighty convenient that the mod was taken down a day before it was meant to come out, but after seeing that their Discord server was locked down and eventually just straight up closed I felt like a bit of a retard thinking it was fake. Whatever, their fault for trying to tease this shit like that. The whole thing with review bombing MWR in response is really fucking pathetic, I don't know how this is going to send a message to Activision since MWR has been "dead" since a little after its launch.

I don't like this guy purely because he made a video like this for MWR around a day ago in anticipation for H2M's release.

His video basically boils down to "Well there's rumors of some guy saying he's RCE-ing people" and not digging deeper into it. It's all just hearsay bullshit and there's no concrete evidence from what I know of it existing in MWR. There's people saying that the RCE exploit has been patched long ago, but again no real concrete evidence from what I've seen. The only believable shit that he talks about is this "Meow" person being able to grab people's IPs, reset ranks, and other shit like that, since the game is P2P and these exploits have been a thing since forever (OG CoD4, MW2, BO1, etc.) because of the lack of dedicated servers. The rest of the video feels like fearmongering bullshit. Also lol at him trying to say that people should use H1 Mod instead of just playing the game. Yeah, let me download the mod that has less than 60 players, or sometimes even less, just so I can play on some dogshit dedicated server that is quickscopes only that constantly advertises its websites and clans to me. No fucking thanks, I'd rather stick with the base game instead of struggling to find a decent vanilla server that doesn't fuck with the game.

Let me guess, r/Games? They are known for attracting idiots that pretend to be smart. I still remember some terrible takes from armchair developers on that subreddit trying to claim that "spaghetti code" they've never seen was the reason why Dead Redemption wasn't getting ported to current-gen consoles and PC. In hindsight, that aged like already expired milk.

Yeah, there's MW maps that are available in Black Ops 3's Steam Workshop, alongside a ton of other copyrighted game assets, but Activision never took issue with that.
There are servers active currently
Yes, I'm aware that there is, but I was saying that dedicated server tools would've been nice, as Activision can't C&D the server list page as easily. It looks like the server tools were released on the H2M Revived discord server, which is good news.

Speaking of which, Black Ops 6 was leaked several times, yet I haven't heard Activision publicly make a statement on it. Meanwhile, somebody makes a multiplayer mod for an older title (on sale at the time I may add) and they immediately go with the cease and desist. They don't even care about their newest title.

Activi$ion is all about pushing out the cheapest product possible while milking it for as much money as they can... and the CoD community doesn't care. Seriously, MWIII was a 70$ DLC for MWII...and the "fans" bought it anyways, like braindead sheep.

It's not the first time they've pulled stuff like this, either; anyone remember the Guitar Hero franchise? They released at least 17 "Hero" games across 5 years, basically killed the rhythm game market via oversaturation. It's the same with the CoD games; Activi$ion just wants to push out the same slop, year after year, without any quality control in order to make the most amount of money possible, with anything that might potentially cut into the current title's potential profits getting destroyed. They don't care about fans, they care about money.

That's only partially true, the numbers for the last three games(Vanguard and MW5-6) have been in the dumpster. Hackers, increasingly ridiculous MTX, technical issues and general low quality of the games compound the issue. Many OGs and content creators have left during these game's life cycles and now we have an actual competitor for the franchise for the first time since the FPS console wars with Halo/Battlefield. We're reaching the end stage of the franchise, Activision can pump out the games as much as they like but less and less people are going to care. We're reaching a point where games die out before their one year cycle is done, this has never happened at the height of the franchise and in fact you could play the older games for years to come even in playlists outside of usual TDM and SND. Not anymore, especially with Warzone absorbing most of the dev attention and playerbase.

Hot take: No.
MWII was the worst CoD ever made, and MWIII improved every single aspect of it. Maybe it should have been discounted at launch, but it's Activision, so of course they made us pay full price for it...

So H2M Revived is a thing now, only issue is that it isn't clear what to download and in what order. If your instructions confuse a linux user like me, your instructions fucking suck.

I did try MWIII during a free trial a while back and personally I wasn't a fan of the armory unlock system.

Instead of wasting their time making a mod that will get a C&D by the owners, they could have made their own game similar to the OG MW multiplayer.
Operation Harsh Doorstop for example is far from being a "BF killer" but each new update allows people to use the sandbox to make their own servers with their own settings. A few months ago they made a mode that plays like CoD instead of a tacticool shooter.
