Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Ah the good old skill based match making.
I hadnt played call of duty in, fuck since black ops 2 but last year i got cold war.
Its a bad system.
Like this is your average experience in it:
Havent played in a while, join match, get easy 7-10kd+ in a match and be surprised how fucking easy it is.
Match ends, and when match ends the players are forcibly ejected from the lobby so the same people cannot play a second round with each other.
Next match, everyone is doing around 1k/d, and everyone is tryharding.
Out of nowhere, I managed to get my K/D back to 1.0 in MWII. Not for nothing, a couple matches were brutal. I'm actually scared to play again.

Getting really high k/d is impossible in skill based match making.
In random lobbies you do, both teams might have two three really good players and rest are scrubs aka "kill fodder".
tfw +7k/d in bf3 over all playtime.

If I felt like trying out Call of Duty alternatives, do those even exist? Reddit/Google in its infinite wisdom seems to suggest Insurgency: Sandstorm/Counterstrike, which might honestly be the most retarded recommendation/comparison I've heard in a while. Tried Battlefield, but I wasn't really a fan of the gameplay. Combat Master does kind of replicate some of the faster movement, but it also makes no effort to feel like anything more than a cheap mobile ripoff.

Things don't seem to look good on the zombies front either. Hellbreach: Vegas was jank last time I tried it, and Sker Ritual doesn't seem great either; gave up on it once I saw they completely copy-pasted Cold War's upgrade system, but with completely useless effects like increasing your movement speed by 2% per level.
Only newest shooter and if you want chink shit on your PC is Delta force Hawk ops its way more Modern Warfare reboot cod than battlefield like people say

I've been curious about that, but most I've heard so far is that it's absolutely riddled with cheaters, like Tarkov levels of FUBAR.

Despite Black Ops 6's "massive launch" from Game Pass, it's still bleeding players as of May of 2025. Even more bizarre is that the player count for Black Ops 6 is tied to match 33% for both Xbox and PlayStation. Basically, even Game Pass isn't sustaining players for Black Ops 6. Treyarch and Activision dropped the ball.

Revisiting MW3 been a treat. I think XP rates have been permanently doubled; I remember kills being 100 XP back in the day. Anyway, MW3 gives out XP progression like candy. I remember an IGN review saying "whether you play for five minutes or five hours, MW3's multiplayer leaves you feeling rewarded." That is objectively true; natural progression for challenges is child's play. All you need to do is play, I'm not obligated to check challenge progression. I have encountered a couple hackers, so it's not completely clean.

MW3's Survival Mode is a nice change of pace for PvE action. Speaking for somebody that dislikes horde modes, it's a nice challenge and change of pace when I find somebody in random matchmaking.

Was 2011 MW3 by Sledgehammer? To my knowledge they always put permanent double XP on when the game's development cycle ends, Vanguard also has it. Haven't checked if it's the same for 2023 MW3, I cannot be bothered to redownload it.

I know CoD: WWII has it. I can't tell if MWIII does as well.

I love MW3's uniform designs.

A Jake Rowell is credited as one of the art directors for MW3. Great work.

I joined a Team Deathmatch that was an unlock all. So, I used my last prestige token to reset my stats. Jesus Christ, why do people still hack these games in public matches?

Treyarch had kicked around the idea of your uniform being based on your perks, but shelved the idea due to insufficient RAM on the PS3 & 360. I wish they had done that instead of both sides being populated by clowns and superheroes.

I remember they did that for snipers, where when you have a sniper, you wear a ghillie suit by default. I could've sworn Black Ops did something like that.

All of them except BO1 had your player model based on what weapon you were carrying. BO1 had it based on your T1 perk. BO2 was going to be a combination of all 3 perks.

Do newer CoDs do that? That sounds cool as hell. Sledgehammer's MW3 storytelling was not bad. It was a great finale. I do wonder how the original IW team would've ended the trilogy. Maybe somebody has an old script somewhere?

NO, the newer CODs have custom skins ever since AW at least. I think Ghosts was the last one where you could tell anything about someone's loadout from their skin.

What shooter out now isn't filled with cheaters? I guess Call of Duty is here to stay in that regard. I wish companies would combat cheating over voice communication.

Print it out and frame it, then put it up on your wall in the living room. Its the last you will see of your K/D at 1.0, next match you are gonna get wrecked.
