Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I have zero clue what BO4 even is honestly, not having a campaign essentially outside of zombies makes it hard for me to put into context with everything else, and even that barely gives you anything to go on
Originally BO4 was a sequel to BO3 but due to Infinite Warfare's very poor reception, Activision quickly cancelled Advanced Warfare 2 and forced Sledgehammer to make WW2 instead. Similarly, Treyarch had to scrap the futuristic setting and make the game a prequel BO3 but the game itself takes place after BO2(This was supposed to be the early years of Winslow Accord but the prequel campaign also got scrapped. "Mercs" vs "Black Ops" is as generic as anything, we can assume it's the same Mercs as we see in BO2 or their remnants or it could be a whole new group entirely)
Zombies wise BO4 is the most significant game since this is where Aether story ends, after 11 years. Everything afterwards is Dark Aether, ie you can safely ignore it.

im not even sure about Black Ops 7 honestly, itll probably have the same core gameplay as Black Ops 6 does which honestly im fine with, im not a campaign guy when it comes to these types of games but it revolving around AISlop is ironic as fuck

It really isn't ironic, BO2 didn't have much to do with AI. That said, the BO2 2 Electric Boogaloo campaign is going to be absolutely defanged and fall flat, remember the nu-MW trilogy? Remember the confused mess that was BO6's campaign?
You can also forget about any cool futuristic stuff, Activision still has nightmares about the Infinite Warfare's reveal trailer. Be ready for a whole lot of contemporary tech and social commentary, however. No thanks.

It’s a shame that the fanbase and the Battlefield fanboys turned Infinite Warfare into a laughing stock before it was even released.

I honestly think that it wasn’t all that bad, and heck, a sequel to it probably would do a whole lot better nowadays.

That's a misconception, it was mostly just bad luck. You see, shitting on COD has been a fad for a long time at that point, and when disgruntled fanboys started doing so when IW was announced, it became VERY trendy to do so. People who never played a single game of COD disliked the video because it was the thing everyone else was doing and nobody wanted to be left out. When the next fad came, the tourists forgot all about Infinite Warfare but the damage was done, ironic thing is that IW was a really solid game and didn't deserve the hate. Activision should have spread out the futuristic games rather than releasing 3 in a row.

Note that despite a game like Vanguard being infinitely worse, it's trailer didn't get nearly as much hate simply because nobody cares about COD anymore, so the public perception of it isn't as bad.

IW zombies is oddly enjoyable, far from great, but easily one of the better not-3arch entries if not the best

Wasn't BO4 already a prequel? Now another?
Black Ops 3 was so fucking out there that constant prequels are what they are resorting too.

All I remember is that like one of David's daughters was creating like clones of Alex, Frank, Reznov and Menendez or something (I'd say they were just like AI clones, but IIRC she was actually fucking Frank Woods clone or something so IDFK) and somehow she created the whole "blackout" battle royale to train the clones or something?

And his other daughter was trying to stop her because she was set up to die in some sort of raid and the rich CEO daughter stole her baby girl or something?

It was a fucking mess and trying to remember it right now feels like trying to remember an acid trip.

IW knows what they're doing, both IW Zombies and Extinction were fantastic, even MW3's survival mode was great back in the day. Shame that they can't experiment more and are forced to make the same spargaggle wee wee games every year.

I loved the campaign of BO3, but it looks like it filtered out so many people(same as with MW2019' and Ghosts multiplayer)
Activision wants to play things safe, so we will never get anything like this again.

None of that is canon, this is literally just a few cutscenes they had completed for the scrapped story mode and they stitched together what they had into some "mindfuck" canon for Blackout. You might as well try to piece together the canon of Fornite and try to take it seriously at this point. The spiritual successor to this form of storytelling is Warzone's "canon", you know the one where Snoop Dogg fights King Kong and Godzilla(yes, this actually happened).

...but I bet it's about to be ;)
Nah, Blackout "lore" is quite literally last minute bullshit they made up because they had to
BTW we already know what the campaign mode for BO4 was supposed to be, you can stitch it together from what the available cutscenes but also from the leaks we had a few years ago. For examples, Blackout map takes place in Spain, which was supposed to be a large part of the campaign(several multi maps do as well, like Hacienda)
Of course, the real gem was the planned long lost sequel to BO3, which would be more futuristic kino with no clear good guys and player choice/two separate campaigns depending on which side you chose.

I mean more so in terms of Activision using AI to make assets, at least in BO6 and then making a campaign warning of the rise of AI in the very next game, then again I shouldn't be suprised since all Corporations are hypocritical

and thats the unfortunate part, I think Infinite Warfare wasn't nearly as bad as people claimed in the lead up to its release, I think part of it is the normalfag morons who only want to play games in a modern setting and nothing else

I find the whole BF vs CoD argument to be fucking stupid, they offer different things and BF Maps tend to be a lot larger then those seen in CoDs multiplayer, I feel a lot of people just hate variety and want everything to appeal to their specific tastes

BO3 wasn't about a rise of AI, it was about a rogue CIA experiment gone wrong and becoming sentient. If anything, the theme of BO3 was about transcending humanity via cybernetics, more akin to something like Ghost in the Shell or even something like NGE's LCL/Instrumentality if you take a look at the final level of the game.

Part of it was fans angry that they had to spend 100$ if they wanted the remake of COD4, the other half was retards downvoting the reveal trailer because it was trendy to do so, like I said. The game was doomed from the start.

Battlefield is dead, MW2019 ate it's lunch by redefining what Ground War is and with BF2042 the franchise finally pulled the trigger and blew it's brains out. We might as well still try pitting Halo against COD like back in 2007.

Raul Menendez OG actor is dead and the last thing he played in was Daredevil: Shit on Fans Again. So, who are they gonna get to sully his legacy even more?
They already sullied his legacy by giving him a goddawful skin in BLOPS4, then even further with the eyepatch skin in fucking Vanguard. This is just graverobbing at this point.

OK so im calling the story line,

its gunna be like irobot where these androids are commonplace, used as police, construction workers, health care workers,

one of two things are gunna happen, the advanced warfare route where the ceo ladies plan all along was to eventually insert her robots into every aspect of society then turn on the evil switch and take over america,

OR they go the blackops 2 route and terrorist's hack into the main frame of the robots and then they use them to take over the united states.

this is the company ceo,
cod generally goes to great efforts of staying out of realworld current day politics.
i dont think a real world military organization has appeared in a cod game in the last 10 years

IF had one of my favorite cod campaigns. I enjoyed the space combat and aesthetic. People were tired of it since it was the 3rd futuristic one in a row but it's still enjoyable to play.

Infinite Warfare is one of my favorites in the series, if only for the mecha-anime-esque campaign, with one of the best robot companions in E3N.

Honestly, if they are to do another futuristic entry, I’d rather it be a sequel to that rather than another Black Ops entry.
