Canada is a failed state

The CPP will just collapse faster now, as wages are so poor compared to cost of living that NOBODY is saving or paying into their CPP, and all of those new immigrants are definitely not paying into it.
The CPP is not facing insolvency like Social Security is in the states. This is because the CPP's contributions aren't solely used to pay benefits, but are also invested both locally and abroad, the returns then reinvested and/or used to pay benefits. Besides, the CPP's operated at arm's length from the federal government, and it makes its investment decisions autonomously.

I came across a Harper interview a while ago on YouTube and it was shocking. Because he behaved so decently compared to how people in our politics behave today. It's hard to remember when we had civilized politicians who weren't just "blaming" everything on someone else or playing up a populist persona.

It's a sad realization we now having nothing but clowns left in our government.

Canada's economy is just a giant ponzi scheme. Change my mind.

If we could actually use the wealth of natural resources this country has, we'd probably be in a better position, but unfortunately that sets either the Environmentalists or the Rezzies off - if I could afford to leave I would, but I can't, so I'm just stockpiling popcorn for when it all goes to shit.
Always has been since the days of the Family Compact in Upper and Lower Canada.

We need to bring back the concept of Cross border Hunting lodges (what was used by William Mackenzie to plan the upper Canadian rebellion, they were also used by the Fenians during the Fenian raids)

That's interesting because past generations of journoscum when he was in power framed Harper as a Machiavellian political strategist who governed cynically in a fashion where the goal was always too cute partisan games to min/max political gain rather than pure ideology.

To the Lefties, Harper was the devil incarnate. How dare he remove Iran from the diplomatic list! How dare he wholeheartedly support Israel! How dare he actually want to vet all the muzzies coming in to make sure we weren't importing a shit-ton of Al-Quaida/Hamas/Iran Revolutionary Guard bigots who think women belong in the kitchen barefoot pregnant and chained to the stove! These morons claimed that Harper was making Canada look foolish on the international stage, when it's jackasses like True Dope that does that in spades and more.

Insane isn't it? The guy was basically the Canadian John Major and was no where near an ideologue.

It's pure projection by said leftists that complained about Harper. He appealed to the common man (and importantly promised to get rid of the Long Gun Registry, which he did, which probably was the main reason he got elected) and the Left figured he was some machiavellian manipulator and an ideologue because that's what they are and they are projecting harder than an IMAX theater.

Harper was a decent guy. He kept Canada afloat during the worst financial crisis of the decade and paid back the Chinese head tax, among his achievements. He was a good prime minister.

It kind of reminds me of Jimmy Carter in that hes actually doing really well in the business world, and has a wonderful world tour.

Love what hes saying as well, I unironically miss him and think if he was in charge currently we'd be a lot better off right now.

Checking up on what hes doing is honestly something I do on occasion, because at this point most of what we are saying he predicted a few years earlier

It’s been full of clowns for decades. Compared to now he looks like messiah. But don’t get it twisted, the Canadian government hates it’s people and has for decades.

The problem is when you do "everything right" (rarely such a thing) for most of your life, and the system has broken down in the meantime so it doesnt add up to what was promised.

My only problem, and I do still hold condolences for people in that situation is, that when things get tough, you still have to keep on working, pushing forward, and digging yourself out of hell- regardless of whose fault it is that youre in there.

When it comes to bums "its society's fault that Im here", if their next step is to go "so society has to bring me back up", they havn't learnt a thing.

Vice versa, you do have cases, moreso than not today, where society legitimately fucks people over. This thread is full of example of that, from the rising rate of the homeless elderly, to collapsing healthcare, to the current unprecedented immigration crisis that supposedly noone vote for but the liberals seemed to think they had a mandate for (looking at you laptop class and liberal young women).

Canada's issue is it isn't working for around 1/3 of the population at the moment and a disproportionate amount of youth. The government is not going to intervene like they did during the pandemic and have already picked the winners just like a near classic command economy. There's no real ladder to get into those particular groups. You can "grind" or "hustle" and hope something pans but long hours of labor and careful investing/saving... think those days are at end when starter homes take 30-40 years to save a down payment for. These are the days of windfall profits for asset holders, money printing and mass immigration. You have to do something when you are in the hole, but Canada is the sort of place that pretends "we are all in this together" even though people are quite cleary not and every effort is spent to stifle economic and business activity unless its the 'right' kind. 4 guys identified as being part of a business registered to a cottage getting 250 million dollars of government IT contracts despite doing no IT work, would be the 'right' kind.

For the people in the thread saying "no this is all normal, youre overexaggerating, society isnt fucking people over" etc. You are wrong- it does, and its doing so more and more rapidly each day.

But you should realize, youre on the fucking kiwifarms, where people congregate together to laugh at life's absurdities, clownworld, and other problems in a space where they really can't shoot the shit otherwise..

If you have a problem with that, or want derail with "no clownworld doesnt exist" youre in the wrong place, and kindly go to reddit.

The Canada subreddits read like 4chan doomer zoos now. These were Trudeua's people and the world's #1 fans of forced medical experimentation just a few short years ago. Now not so much. I guess the people who cannot even police their own echo chambers anymore are looking to spread out elsewhere. Kiwifarms is a very strange choice.

Making Canada better start with making sure the liberals and NDP never hold power again once that's done we can hopefully start to make Canada a respectable country again.
They'll be back in office in a decade or so. Every government has a shelf life.

I would prefer the Liberals return to being a bland centrist party and the NDP to get a rocket ship back from clown world by then.

I have not taken part in the who to voot for issue. I believe this problem is deeper than some crazy lunatic's government.

Consulting is either looking amazing or awful depending on who you ask,. This is in part how the laptop class makes money.

Most consulting gigs are for the businesses that exist in this country, that is to say duo or even monopolies created and maintained by federal or provincial instances. In other cases, it will be a crown corporation. I can present the Canadian National Railway Company. It is privatized, it's owned by Bill Gates and a long list of investment firms. It has barely any competition to speak of. It will have contracts with consulting firms like CGI, Cofomo, Exadel, and all these giant bureaucratic consulting machines. The proposal request process ensures that these firms will get the money, absurd sums at times. Even smaller firms will get contracts through endowments.

There is the matter of small business too, since they employ 2/3 of employed Canadians. The outlook is fairly grim looking at last year: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/11-621-m/11-621-m2023003-eng.htm

You have a chunk with plans to either reduce investment, not increasing wages at all, or increasing their prices. The great majority of them are not hiring and complaining about not being able to retain employees.

I don't think this is going to work out with mass immigration. I would expect things to get worst, and people being more selfish (as they should be in this country). I recommend living like a pauper as much as possible. My ancestors have had to live through far worst than this. I don't believe the sky is falling, but it is not a good situation to be in.

Actually, it's not just fine for me, it's fine for a lot of the people I know. Outside of mentally ill people, all the people I know who are struggling are all failures and fuckups who refuse to do anything to improve themselves or their lives and prefer to doom about the impending collapse of their country that isn't coming any time soon. Also, calling someone a boomer just because they don't share your sadsack views on life is another textbook loser admission.
Is this what bait looks like? Despite making a fairly high salary by national standards, I'm making life decisions I would not be making otherwise.

I don't come to this thread often. I'll give you that, it's very depressing to look at, you don't learn much of value, and I don't care for the political discussion.

But one thing I cannot stand is shitting on people like this. I know people who are fairly hard working, keep their chin up types, they're trying their hardest. They keep on trucking. Talking guys who work factories, sanitation, construction, IT jobs. It's anything but easy, and you don't want to look at that depreciating paycheck, it's depressing.

I’ve thought about it a lot. From what I’ve put together, they would have my head on a pike. Just have to ride it out for now I think.

In other words you have no life experience and have not lived long enough to see successful people have their successes washed away by time or vice versa, and the failures that have their failures washed away by time also.
No, I have, I just think you're whiny and retarded and you doing the usual "You're a fed trying to demoralize" shit is about what I expect from people like you. I'm sure you have great things coming in your future.

Would it help if we started discussing and sharing how to get into politics, even if only at a municipal level? If nobody else is going to save the country we should at least try.
Local riding association. Remember except with the NDP, federal and provincial parties are unrelated. Typically provincial riding associations have some sway in local politics, at least at an organizational level. If you're in a small town, run for county council and canvas old folks homes for votes. You'd be shocked about how few you need.
