Heard that the second jury was dismissed for some kind of BS reason, and now instead of picking a new jury it's going to be the Unelected Judge who decides.

I generally think the Hockey players are guilty but I also think it's BS that there is a publication ban on the name of the girl (only referring to her as EM). She definitely sounds like a Puck Bunny.

In a sane country everyone involved would be locked up or Redacted.

Originally the attitude was paternalism, which you sometimes still hear from old conservatives when they point out that Confederation basically saved them from Americans enacting Total Injun Death, but the arrival of multiculturalism and the failure of residential schools to solve the whole "incapable of adapting to industrial society" problem mutated it into outright Magical Native American worship, making them the centrepiece of the "cultural mosaic".

This actually makes the most sense too me. Britain's willingness to form "alliances" with the Natives was one of the causes of the American Revolution. For Americans, the Natives were at best "in the way" and at worst an active and ongoing threat. Since the Jump the 13 Colonies and then the USA has fought numerous and often very brutal wars with the Indians. Not all of which we came out on top of either mind you.

There's a similar parallel in Quebec. France had the same approach as the British, form alliances and trade (just with different FN, brits went with iroquois, france with algoquians for example) but after the Seven Year War, Quebec also had a more dismissive policy towards the natives and 10 kids per woman as Catholicism demands. I think has more to do with one being a policy in a "foreign" land, while another is a local policy. Britain and France wanted to advance their interests without going all out war with the natives because they had actual wars in Europe to deal with. Meanwhile here, we're already at war in a way, see how hard it was to lay down the railroads through the continent.

I think this is reductive. The 13 colonies weren't prevented from expanding westward because of the injuns, it was because it was french territory at the time and both Britain and France did their best to avoid a war in the colonies because it'd become a war in Europe, up until George Washington started the war at Jumonville-Glen. It was less than 20 years between the time Britain got the continent to when the US rebelled, to add onto that their regional grievances. Those issues had much more to do than Britain not wanting conflict with savages. Spain is one of the few colonial powers who went total war in Mexico, but that because of extreme local circumstances where everyone hated the Aztecs. Britain, France, the Dutch, whether here or in India, Africa, they all made alliances and preferred trade, to avoid war.

Only reason why the re-opened that investigation is because Justin Trudeau opened his yap about it way back. I have been following that trial closely and those guys are clearly innocent. The crown's own witness, Steenbergen said that the girl walked out of the bathroom naked and started playing with herself in front of the players asking them to fuck her... When none did she called them pussies. They also have videos of her consenting. They were using this trial to attack white men and hockey culture, but since they need hockey culture for their faux pas "patriotism" to fight against the US this trial will be memory holed when the players are inevitably found innocent of all charges.

My theory is that a lot of the members of those subreddits were originally people from Quebec and Ontario. Who left their shitty provinces but still hold on the same ideas that destroyed their old provinces. They basically want to benefit from western provinces while despising them at the same time.
