Trudeau is appointing a special rapporteur to investigate and make recommendations on Chinese election interference!
This ultimately amounts to a stalling tactic when you get down to it because Trudeau is the one that selects the rapporteur who will be answerable to the PMO only. As for these committees, they are A) dominated by Liberals and their NDP minions, and B) sworn to secrecy so that its members cannot reveal "evidence" to the public. You see the Liberals as cagey around government documents as many of the ones submitted to the Rouleau Commission were heavily redacted. Same with Access to Information requests. The Liberal Party of Canada also makes extensive use of cabinet and solicitor/client privilege to stonewall every attempt to hold them to account for their actions. Their only rationales this behavior are constant appeals for the public to, "just trust them on this" no matter what the issue.
Of course, a large enough portion of the Canadian public are knuckle-dragging simpletons that believe in the fairy tale that the federal government and our institutions are magnanimous in their divinity with their functionaries (AKA the Laurentian elite) serving as the clergy. It is almost literally inconceivable to them that our "venerable" institutions can fall prey to corruption and cronyism for the simple reason that they view it as solely an American problem. So much of left-wing Canadian patriotism stems from an unearned sense of moral superiority over the United States. Historically speaking, this country could never match the economic or military might of the United States, so many Canadian government crafted the myth Canada being the milder and more enlightened younger sibling of 'Merica in way I find parallels the Lost Cause of the Confederacy in many respects.
It doesn't matter if dozens of homeless people die of drug overdoses on the streets of Vancouver's East Hastings district or if a career criminal stabs an unsuspecting woman in the face on the train ride home in Toronto. Our governments and the civil service are a cluster of vicious narcissists who solely care about instant gratification. Their supporters could literally steal from children and kick puppies, but claim sainthood because they wave the Ukrainian flag and brag about how many booster shots they have taken. One common refrain I have heard from LPC apologists on the China issue was that Justin Trudeau has not been connected to the Pierre Trudeau Foundation since he became leader of the party so he doesn't benefit monetarily from the Chinese donations.
Motherfuckers. Not everyone is motivated by money or power. PMJT was raised in wealth and luxury; he has never been truly held to account for his excesses in government so he runs roughshod on the country anyway. (More) Money and power are merely side benefits to him. The best way to gain influence over him would be to placate his ego enough to convince him to look the other way. Canada is barely a gnat on an elephant's ass when it comes to the international scene so PMJT is more than willing to please anyone that enables his delusions of grandeur, or adequacy for that matter.
The best way to deal with Chinese interference in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections is to drag it into the light because we are dealing with a hostile foreign power that has been infiltrating the West for decades now. His lackadaisical response to CSIS's warning and the opaque nature of the LPC's "investigation" only gives the impression that he is hiding something big. No, Justin, talking about PRC interference in our elections is not racist nor does discussing undermine faith in our institutions. Hiding it for months (because you were the beneficiary) and attempting to control the process does that. If you truly believed in the nonsense you spew, you would step aside because you would have nothing to hide.
