I got on a packed city bus at University & King, out front of UW, in about '07-'08. I was the only White person on the bus, at least the only one that I could see. It was like a sardine can, so maybe there was another lone White hidden behind a sea of Asians. I took a picture to send to my friends back home because I knew they would've had a hard time picturing it in their minds eye. To be fair, back then, it was mostly Chinese students, who aren't likely to be strong or brave enough to tangle with your average Canadian girl.

Hilariously, from the same year, here is an
obvious non-candid photo (tagged "WU Photospheres"). I assume it was created by student services or something for PR. Note the demographics.

Yeah I can remember when people were panicking about the Chinese in Waterwoo.
Honestly- better international students than the Indians. Maybe its because it took some time to get used to them, but after about a decade of having them around they just became an accepted part of the city.
The plus side was that you tended to have a lot of Koreans with Korean food, some Japanese, and while Chinese culture is different from Western culture, they at least have discipline (largely) and don't necessarily rock the boat too much. There were scandals with Chinese students cheating back then too, and I can recall the biggest problem was rich Chinese buying up real estate and inflating the prices in the city.
At the very least, the economy more or less functioned the same, most of these Chinese fucked off after getting their degree, and jobs wern't really being taken by them, rent was still affordable, etc.
I think if you look at the demographics now, 30,000 Indian students at Conestoga's Kitchener campus alone (out of a population of 240,000) is absurd. The next highest college was 11,000 Indian students?
Even that comparison is a bit misleading though, because 11,000 is a lot and other campuses, cities, etc are complaining about the sheer amount of Indian students because they by far outnumber any other demographic. But 30,000 is
even more clown tier level. In Sudbury, they have less than 10,000 and have problems with housing, students living in tents, etc. KW has
three times that amount.
This is off memory, but from what I can recall, international student levels at Western capped at maybe the mid 3,000s in the mid 2010s? Thats for
all international students, not just Indians. Where we're at now is just laughable.

Why I say that KW wasn't really a racist place and was pretty chill is that, even with the waterwoo jokes, etc- it was just like, whatever, no hate crimes, no crimes from horny indians. It was the kind of "yeah my uncle and I notice this, but things arent that much of a bother so whatever". The atmosphere just seems infinitely more anti-coolie currently, for justifiable reasons
