In rural areas in the south and UP MI, reported trespassing and burgleries are extremely low. Incidentally it's not uncommon for drug addicts and people with a history of these crimes to just go missing to be found months or even years later if at all. Local authorities barely even respond to reports of their absence. You can't even hide in the rural areas, once they break into your house, you're house location is catalogued. In boring shitholes like Inuvik and Thompson, Crime is around 10x worse than Detroit, Michigan.
It is worth noting that this trend is on the rise in Detroit in which the crime rate has steadily been lowering. Yet there have been increasing reports of roving packs of dogs in certain unpopulated areas near abandoned buildings irregardless of a lack of people feeding them. Dogs which while lacking rabies have a tendency to be aggressive and attack people almost like they have a taste for them.
I think the citizens in these areas have come to understand the role of the police as "the clean up crew", and have decided to react accordingly to people who wrong them in the moment. The police have decided to just accept the consequences of that as it makes their jobs easier. It's the same in Chicago, and why violent crime is so high in comparison to nonviolent crime. Do you think Canadians will adopt this trend?
