The Canadian residential school system only ended in the late 1990s.
This is a non point. Yeah it continued till the 90s, but in what form lol
I can tell you, native kids weren't dying in the 90s of TB like they were in the 1910s.
Compare this to the United States that ended their schools in the 1920s-30s and were never as bad.
Bad in what way? Canadian residential schools weren't.
Ontop of this the Indian agents in charge of reservations not only neglected reservations like the Americans did
What. No they didn't, you can literally look at these files and they basically spam money at reserves from the 60s and onwards, and there definitely isn't neglect.
It's native chiefs who choose what to do with the money usually, sucks, but lol
One example is "peasant agriculture". Canadian Indian agents were instructed to not teach Indians how to farm using modern machinery, but instead to give them small plots of land and the tools used by medieval peasants.
I have literally no idea where you're getting this
The Indian Agents believed that they had to work their way up to modernity by basically going up through the tech tree.
You realize you can freely read the journals of half the Indian agents, or people who ran the residential schools. They're all online and available to the public and there's nothing like this in there.
The problem being that European peasant agriculture is literally impossible in the prairies
Ukrainians.
Treaties stipulated help in becoming self-sufficient, but this policy sabotaged that completely
I literally don't know any like this. I do know that Trudeau Sr, when he was in charge of Indian affairs, wanted to push them to become self sufficient, but they reeeed at losing free gibs, so no.
Like nothing you say is accurate and natives weren't oppressed by residential schools. Some died in the 10s and 20s, there may be casual racist rhetoric, but as highlighted earlier in this thread
A) a fuckton of kids died to TB in the 20s, which pretty much killed most of the native kids who died, my great grandparents generation in Quebec had several of his siblings dying to it.
Not to mention you can read the reports of these residential schools, even the journals of the Jesuit priests who ran them who were pretty torn up
B) when there is casual racism "eliminate the savage" talk, which wasn't common, it's also paired with the white man's burden and not going to get into that, but it's not as simplistic as you're portraying, or trying to anyways.
Yeah there are some fucked up things for natives in Canada, but no, were in no way as bad as the US, and no, we didn't really fuck with them heavy here.
In fact, if you know your history, we created the mounties to differentiate ourselves from the US, because the US mounted cavalry had such a bad rep for natives.
Dont shit up the thread with dumb native propaganda
