Then again I'm cursed to sit outside my windows staring into America. It would take years to recertify myself for a roughly comparable wage. From a financial point of view it barely makes sense but I do get a creeping sense of doom around me.

I recall having a surprising heated argument explaining to a boomer that America wasn't collapsing and that all of Canada was as poor as the poorest singular state. He started talking about bonds and how no one would ever buy them from the states so their debt would collapse them?

I showed him how state bonds have nearly doubled in the past 5 years but it just had him doubling down. I think Canada can be helped but you somehow have to convince people how bad it really is first. We can't start to make things better if we live under the illusion things are working.

A family member of mine is a manager at some scrapyard, and she was saying some ukrainian refugee they hired (a good worker too by all accounts) ended up leaving to FUCKING ROMANIA, because the GTA was too expensive for him and his family, despite him making a pretty good wage.

Left in 2021, about a year into COVID because saw the writing on the wall.

If/whenever I want to come back to Onterrible, I literally can't. I look at rental prices in my old city, wages, and taxes- and it just doesn't make financial sense (let alone isnt really possible without moving into my parents, with my wife). Even excluding rent, with the cost of food, Im at a loss compared to where Im living, and Im not even living that well here.

Canada is worse than the 2nd world, frankly.

You mention the cost of rent and food, but it goes so far beyond that. Everything is a rip-off, everything is too expensive. It's the rent, the food, public transportation, private transportation, the gas, the water, the electricity, the taxes, the entertainment, the tobacco, the alcohol, the recreation, the internet, the telecommunications, the cable, the goods, the services - EVERYTHING is too expensive. It's so hard to get this through peoples' heads sometimes because they're so accustomed and brainwashed by the prices that they don't even see anything wrong with it.

I pay CA$7 every three months for water and $11 every month for electricity - and I rarely turn my lights off and have electric AC units running every hour of every day. A subway ticket is less than CA$0.25 and there's more than 200 subway stops. A 30km taxi ride costs me CA$8. A full week of groceries (that's three meals per day) is less than CA$40, and a 3-course meal if I go out to a restaurant is less than CA$10.

I have friends back in Canada that are making CA$1000-2000 more than me per month, but I still manage to save CA$3000-4000 more than them per month because I don't live in a shithole country where every single facet of life is designed to personally rip me off. Nobody wants to be broke, nobody wants to be hungry, nobody wants to be a loser: so, why would I, or anybody else, go back to the country that's full of broke hungry losers?

I'm actually from China though I've spent pretty much my entire life in Cucknada, you could argue that technically nothing really changed for me in the long-term lol. China also has a huge problem with housing costs and youth unemployment, but at least people in China understand their government sucks even if they can't do much about it. I say for now Canada is still better, but it's on its way down, hard.

I meant that the people that are pushing for Albertan secession are the same people that control the big businesses, the real estate, and the politics of the province, and these same people are in favor of bringing in millions of immigrants from incompatible cultures because it lines their pockets. These elites prey on the ignorance and confused anger of the average person to further their own aims and goals because most people don't understand that the problems they face aren't the result of a single cause, but rather the result of a complex web of different yet interconnected causes.

They just wanted an excuse to act out - to express their frustration, fear, and anger because they felt unheard and unseen in their daily lives. They never got close to Parliament and still got arrested and debanked. If they ever went to Parliament Hill they might even get shot at. I get what you're saying, but eventually there's a point where if you cross that line things escalate to the point of killing all of your politicians and dismantling the government. As long as society somewhat functions that line will be very difficult to cross, and attempting to do so without the full support of the people will only serve to send you to jail for the rest of your life and have everyone see you as a villain. And what we learn from history is that if you dismantle the government things go to shit very quickly and really badly, so you want to be absolutely sure before you cross that line.

Once things deteriorate to the point where even basic survival becomes a question, things will become violent. I can't say that Alberta seperating will immediately be an improvement, but it will give the citizens closer control over their own politics and force Canada to break out of its rut to survive. Plus having your leader be within a 4 hour or so drive at any time will force them to be more accountable.
