UN Canada PM Trudeau to announce resignation as early as Monday, Globe and Mail reports - It’s Ovah, Hosers. Sorry.

L/A
Jan 5 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce as early as Monday that he will resign as Liberal Party Leader, The Globe and Mail reported on Sunday, citing three sources.

The sources told the Globe and Mail that they don't know definitely when Trudeau will announce his plans to leave but said they expect it will happen before a key national caucus meeting on Wednesday.

The Canadian prime minister's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.

It remains unclear whether Trudeau will leave immediately or stay on as prime minister until a new leader is selected, the report added.

Trudeau took over as Liberal leader in 2013 when the party was in deep trouble and had been reduced to third place in the House of Commons for the first time.

Trudeau's departure would leave the party without a permanent head at a time when polls show the Liberals will badly lose to the Conservatives in an election that must be held by late October.

His resignation is likely to spur fresh calls for a quick election to put in place a government able to deal with the administration of President-elect Donald Trump for the next four years.

The prime minister has discussed with Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc whether he would be willing to step in as interim leader and prime minister, one source told the newspaper, adding that this would be unworkable if LeBlanc plans to run for the leadership.

Do the people of Canada wring their hands over Trump this much?

Trump is essentially Voldermort north of the border.

There's less hysterical, full-blown leftist screeching TDS.

But normies get all their news filtered through MSM sources funded by Trudeau. There's no Fox News equivalent. There's really no right-wing culture, history, political party, etc.

So normie Canadians only know Trump as a caricature and shudder at the suggestion of being affiliated with him in polite company.

They also don't know that Obama was a war criminal, that Biden is a vegetable and are confused why mean, ole redneck Americans wouldn't elect that nice cacklin' Indian-lady-pretending-to-be-Black as Commander and Chief,

I wonder if he will get 24/7 security after he leaves office.

There was a viral video going around close to Christmas showing Trudeau alone on a ski hill in British Columbia and a resident walking up to him with no security in sight. The Stacy shook his hand and then told him to get the fuck out of the province.

Back in the 90s, an intruder broke into 24 Sussex Drive (the Canadian equivalent of the White House). The Mounties were so incompetent that Jean Chretien's wife Aline was prepared to fight off the attacker with a soapstone Eskimo carving.

Papa, es-tu encore fier de moi ?

I realistically think he will vanish out the country somehow, and perhaps a fake death like Epstein. Make people think hes gone for good while the corrupt people he supported gives him a cushy retirement.

Can someone explain his weird connection to India? I don't understand
From 2010 to 2023, a total of 879,099 immigrants from India landed in Canada1. In 2023, a total of 139,780 Indian citizens were admitted to Canada as landed immigrants, accounting for 29.6% of total admissions in that year12. According to the 2016 Census, 668,565 immigrants from India resided in Canada, making them the largest foreign group in the country2. The total Indian population in Canada is 1,858,755 (1.85 million) or 5.1% of the Canadian population3.

Those numbers are insane. I wonder if you add that to the chinese immigrants that flood their country how much their country is basically invaded by China and India. I don't have anything invested in Canada so it does not matter but fascinating to see a country that has completely sold out to foreign governments. Am I seeing this wrong?

No, you aren't. It is so bad, even on reddit they are complaining about Indian's. Even in r/india they complain.

The 25-percent tariffs on everything that Trump has threatened on us will easily nuke our economy.
It's the big ask that Trump usually does while he bargains down to what he wants. As much as we meme on Canada a destroyed Canada is nothing but trouble for America.
Canada's national identity is basically just "we aren't America" and nothing else.
It's depressing that's the case. I remember when Canadians were tough pioneers above all that had a national sport where throwing down was outright expected.

When the fuck did that change?

I do not like to use "informative" often but this is actually really informative. I only saw some news about Canada at random times but I remember very much some news about Canadians who were aligned with American Trump politics and now it makes even more sense. The crazy thing is that this is from 2021 from the start and it has been years. I can't imagine how much anger Canadians have felt. I actually thought it was a meme but now I see how bad it actually is.

I hope the best for the Canadians. Your country does not have an affect on mine at all but this is bad.

I've seriously tried understanding how national elections work in Leafland but it seems to damn convoluted.

This isn't so much the usual liberal hand-wringing; more that even our conservatives know we're likely to face another round of Trump tariffs and we need someone economically literate that is better aligned with Trump politically... Trudeau's open hostility to Trump over the past 10 years has been an embarrassment.
Now, it's most likely that the libs will prorogue parliament for months, holding the country hostage while they decide who Kim Campbell 2.0 will be.
I doubt this will happen because it almost made the Liberal party lose official party status last time they did that. Justin Trudeau was kind of their "break glass in case of existential crisis" candidate; they knew he wasn't ready but relied on name recognition to get him elected, thanks to our heavily propagandized school system holding his father up as "the best Prime Minister ever".

It also poses a serious economic and military threat (as in, the terms of mutual support and NATO funding -- not an actual invasion threat lol) to go into Trump's first 100 days without an actual PM. We can stall talks for the 6 weeks it takes to have a snap election, but not much beyond that.

Other people on that trip have shown him trailed by plainclothes security. They hang back, but they're obviously there and -- surprise surprise -- they're armed to the teeth. They also had fighter jets sitting at Kelowna airport. That trip cost taxpayers $250k.

I know a lot of people didn't like him; and tbh he seemed rather bland, but that is the Canadian Way is it not? I don't think a change in the PM is going to overly change much of anything.

I expect him to declare himself as the first Canadian monarch and dictator, leading to the first execution of a politician being drowned to death in a barrel of maple syrup.
Days later two Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers show up on Canada's East coast restoring order and the Windsors to their rightful places as Canada's rulers.
