Cancelled Games You Wish Had Been Released - I Can't Think of a Good Subtitle

I don't know the time line, but there seemed to be a fad of adapting cult 80s movies. I don't know if the success of The Warriors started that, but it wouldn't surprise me.
The Warriors didn't release until 2005, so it didn't start the trend, although it was first announced in 2002.

But yeah, games based on cult classic movies was a small trend in the 2000s.

There was supposed to have been a beat em up, right about the time that The Warriors caused a tiny resurgence in bmups, based on the youth culture gangs back in 60's UK called We Are The Mods.

Since 60's/70's England culture is one of those weird little historical niche's I adore, losing this game made me quite sad...
That'd be perfect subject matter for a game.

Say what you want about the 32X but it had the best console ports of MK2 and NBA Jam, seriously the 32X port completely smokes the SNES version. It's a damn shame that we never got the planned Capcom 32X ports like Darkstalkers, Alien vs Predator and SSF2Turbo. I think the 32X could've worked if Sega hadn't been complete retards and marketed it as "the poor man's alternative to the Saturn" despite charging $150 for the thing and selling most 32X games for $70... it's pretty depressing to think that the 32X combined with Sega completely fucking up the Saturn's North American launch put them in the downward spiral that they never recovered from and they were pretty much forced to quit the console business.

Only if there was some Rainman autist that can program some ports or tool to bring some homebrew to the 32x. You would think there would be a fan port of SSF2 on the 32x.

Wish Simsville came out, if only to see what it would have been like as a community simulator, somewhere in-between the Sims and Simcity in terms of scale.

I personally think its Simcity 3000-esque graphics would have aged relatively well:

Gex 4, for the PS2. Only two pieces of concept art for the game exist:
Gex was a platformer game series, developed by Crystal Dynamics, that details the adventures of a gecko named Gex. In this page you can see a couple of concept arts from the cancelled Gex 4, a cancelled project that was probably in development for the PS2. The series followed Gex the gecko. A lazy, tv crazy young man who after inhering a large fortune from his late uncle purchases the largest tv in the world.

Upon eating a fly which was actually a metallic transmitter, he is pulled into the digital world by his soon to be arch nemesis RezWhile. Not much is known about this sequel in terms of plot or overall any information. The last media ever released in the Gex franchise was a book in 2000.

It may not have been the greatest game series, and most people who bring it up do so to mock it, but honestly I enjoyed Gex 2 and 3 on the N64, and would love to see the series make a return.

Pac-Man World 4
After releasing Pac-Man World 3 in 2005, between 2008 / 2010 Namco America (Namco Hometek) were working on a “Next Gen” Pac-Man 3D platformer for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. While this “Pac-Man World 4” was never officially announced, fans of the series found a concept trailer created for the project by a former Namco animator. Gameplay looked similar to previous Pac-Man World chapters: Pac-Man would have been able to roll and run around the levels, transforming itself into different forms such as a propeller and some kind of spiky drill.

Apologies for the double post, but seeing as today is Halloween, I thought it would be apropos to mention the game Ghostworld:

Ghostworld was a platform / adventure game somewhat similar to Psychonauts, that was in development for the Playstation 2 by Luxoflux, in mid-2000. The project started with a “dark” and unique theme, but then i was changed to a more “kid-friendly” game for younger audience, because the publisher tough that so it was going to be more profitable. In the end (2002) Ghostworld was cancelled as it was seen as a risky project. After this, part of the team started to work on Shrek 2: The Game.

“A bunch of very talented people have invested tremendous effort into it, and while the results were spectacular and generally everybody was very impressed, reality kicked in. Being an original, “non-proven” property the publisher took an extremely non-committing stance and the soon-to-follow constant changes of direction and target-audience, design-by-committee meetings and the vague atmosphere surrounding the fate of the game had completely extinguished the original spark and eventually led to abandon the project.”

Due to the limit on how many images we can upload and the large amount of concept art for this game, I edited some of the images together:

Prototype gameplay:

Shame the game was cancelled, it looked like it had promise.

The saving grace would be that Luxoflux was proven garbage, so even if it came out it might not have amounted to much. Kore Gang was a similar game that eventually came out after 7-8 years of delays(on the Wii) and it was not that hot.

B.C.
A game where you lead a group of cavemen and you continue to build your tribe in an open world, all the while having to fight dinosaurs sounds awesome. The game was going to have its own ecosystem where you could hunt animals to extinction.

Irrational Games had worked on an interesting RPG set against Dante's Inferno and other romantic religious works called The Lost. It would continue Irrational's immersive sim trend. However, it was cancelled shortly after Irrational finished the RC.

Valve has literally dozens of projects that died, but there was a voxel/point cloud based action game called A.R.T.I that occupied a lot of their time between Half-Life 2's Episodes and Alyx. Like many projects before it, it never survived its own development.

There was a turn-based RPG set in the Aliens universe. I believe it got axed in favor of Colonial Marines. 😢 The original Duke Nukem: Forever that was supposed to come out in the early 2000s looked amazing.
It wasn't turn-based, it was more 3rd person and commanding various squads, think Mass Effect sort of way and it was gonna be made by Obsidian. But, from what I remember that when they showed the prototype to SEGA, it was seen on a more Janky side and SEGA didn't know if this type of RPG would sell or not, thus instead they went for Colonial Marines and had Obsidian make Alpha Protocol on the same engine that the Aliens RPG was supposed to be.

warcraft 4

dont think there was actually an official announcement for a potential game, but you know for a fact wow is the reason we never got it

Bully 2 was apparently being made years ago before they scrapped the idea. First one is an underrated classic in my opinion.

I don't think a sequel is even possible in **CURRENT YEAR** given some of the themes, unless they heavily censor themselves (which so far, Rockstar seems to have been reluctant to do).

Actually fuck it, Rockstar probably would just ride the wave of fake controversy that would inevitably follow this game and be all the richer for it. Do it, faggots!

They censored the Confederate flag in the GTA 3 remaster & the best minds have left the company.

They censored the Confederate flag in the GTA 3 remaster
i think this has something to do with apple's policy on having the confederate flag in games due to its status as a hate symbol. keep in mind this also affected other games like civil war strategy games and such
