That's why my incense holder is a wide jar filled with sand. I just stick the sticks (lol) in the sand and let all the ashes fall in the jar.

Incense and myrrh were two of the gifts the Three Wise Men brought for baby Jesus. Pretty Christmassy and lovely scents.

Is it a bit early to swap out my warmer to Christmas-y stuff? It's been one of those years and I'm about to flip on the Christmas music honestly. I have some general pine, mint, pumpkin, apple cinnimon, and *checks notes* the smell of fleece and flannel, but it smells like fresh linen. I like to swap my warmer out with the seasons. So does anyone have other suggestions for "wintery" smells?

Stuff like pine or balsam, fir, teakwood, cedar etc are always very Christmasy for me. Gingerbread, cinnamon, plum, sugarcookie, pecan are some other holiday cozy scents.
 
Tbh, how are those anime/MCU themed candles off of etsy?
I've always looked at them since some had scents I like but some friends said they smell like ass?

I'm more of a insense fan myself since i've grown up around it all my life, but hoh boy those berry pie candles at walmart hit different tbh.
 
Incense is just waaay too strong for me. Any time I step into a place burning incense, I wind up coughing. A single candle doesn't generally seem as strong as a stick of incense.
 
Anyone have any suggestions for good coffee scented candles? I love the smell of coffee and want a sort of natural scent to have in my office. I know I can achieve that by brewing as much coffee as a coffeehouse, but I don't really want to down that much coffee for the scent. My old go-to of a tealight in a container of coffee grounds is a pretty good start, but I was wondering if there was something stronger?

From what other friends have told me about the anime themed ones, they tend to have veey basic bitch smells like vanilla, rosewood and jasmine. You'd be better off making your own.

The MCU ones? Don't bother. I purchased a few for a relative crazy about Avengers. They have intense smells when off but stink of smoke when lit. Really shitty.

@Mal0 You could use essential oils and a fragrance diffuser, you can find the oil for a decent price on amazon.
 
I went out and got some more smells, peppermint and a Christmas tree-ish (it's milder than my pine cube I have) smell, to add to my collection. Let me tell you, when i was in the store, I was mightily excited to pop in peppermint on my wax warmer when I got home. Imagine my surprise when I see my wax warmer is off and I didn't replenish bulbs last time I used one.

It's the small things that can sometimes be a wet cloth on your day. *sigh*
 
I love candles more than anything. I spend so much money on candles, plugins, wax melts, and aerosol sprays. I have a store down the street in the 'rich person' shopping center that I go to for gift shopping and I bought a candle called Smoky Earl Grey. It's the best candle I've ever smelled. It's 50 dollars though.

For the cat owners in the thread: there are led candles that mimics fire light pretty well.

Sure it takes the pleasure of setting things on fire away and don't smell, but it's a ok substitute if you want just the aesthetic.
 
I absolutely love candles and my home is full of them. I turn off the lights and use them a couple times a week. My favorite book to read by candlelight is Blood Meridian. The fire goes a long way to add some perfect atmosphere to that book in particular.

If I'm not reading and its just the candles, I'll put on a candleworthy playlist. It has some Enigma, and some other things which are a little dark and a little ambient.
 
I love candles from Muji. I am a sucker for that Japanese ~minimalist~ aesthetic and wood-y vibe. Beautiful delicate scents, makes me feel like i'm in a nice cabin and not in the middle of a horrible city. My favourite is Hinoki Wood, but I also like Sea Salt and Gold & Myrrh. I usually get the larger sizes, but the smaller ones nice to buy as gifts since they only cost £6 or so- great for secret santa for people you don't know all that well but are forced to get something for.

There's a really nice Fortnum and Mason honey flavoured candle that my parents had. It smelled incredible, but it was ridiculously expensive for the size and longevity of it.
 
I get Pet House candles in Lilac and Rose, they smell so true to their namesakes. Can't stand overly-perfumed scents and have two cats that I don't want exposed to anything toxic if they're in my room with me.

So far as incense, I have some charcoal rounds that you light on the edge and some copal resin. Toss just a small bit of the gum on the charcoal and it smells like the Renaissance Faire. I indulge very seldom in this 'cause it does tend to be strong.

No pine candles at the store today, we'll try another store tomorrow.

@admiral honey candles? Yes please! If you happen across a more reasonable alternative I'd sure like to know. I've seen honeysuckle myself, but I can't bear to spend so much for something so fleeting (I'd rather splurge on quality chocolates, if I'm going all uptown with my spending lol)
 
I've got a bay rum candle burning and it's a good mix with the Christmas Tree scented oil I spilled earlier. Oops but also, okay.

Dr Squatch candles are a little pricey but they last a while and smell nice.

I love candles, not particularly for the scent but because the flame is pretty and I like fire and the light it produces (my sense of smell is trash; they aren't usually strong enough unless it's like the Glade ones and those have a "fakey" smell that I don't care for). Usually though, I burn incense. It's not as pretty but definitely has a strong scent. When I was a kid, my mom always burned the Nag Champa incense, which is my favorite now (your local Indian gas station more than likely has it). Plus, I don't trust my cats AT ALL around candles -- I have a kitten, an apathetic chunker, and a big orange thing that's literally brain damaged, and knocks shit over just trying to walk in a straight line. He also doesn't realize kitties are flammable and tries to jump in the oven. Maybe I need to hide my Sylvia Plath books.

I used to have pet rats, and while I miss them dearly, I don't miss not being able to burn my candles/incense/sage/whatever. On that note, try burning Palo Santo wood if you can find it. It's very nice regardless of if you believe the stuff about "cleansing" and all that. Sage is nice too, but I've had friends and neighbors think that I was smoking weed when I burned it.

I guess I just like having a house that smells like a stinky hippie shop, you know the ones I mean. "Tobacco Use Only."
