Capcom General Thread - General Discussion? Griefing? There are already 8 other franchise threads

Few months back, Capcom released their super election survey about them and their video games. Roughly 250 000 votes, majority of votes are in 30s and 40s 20s. There are like a total of ten questions, but I'll just pick out highlight and screenshot top 3 or 5 choices in each question. They have like a top 10 for each question, so I recommend check out the survey link above.
Few questions may have shorter content than others. Spoiler because lots of pictures. DMC 5 is "surprisingly" voted quite high, but it is carried by late millennials and zoomers a lot.

Capcom had a bit of a redemption arc going on after RE2R but that good will went to shit FAST! i honestly thought they would make good making Dragons Dogma 2 but that was a complete cash-grab.

I know it's a pipe dream (and probably wishing on a goddamn monkey's paw with how modern game dev is), but it might be interesting to see a re-release of the old PS2 action game Chaos Legion. Think a less flashy version of the early Devil May Cry games, but your main gimmick is being able to summon up squads of demon-things as backup.
Nothing revolutionary, but it had hilariously jank voice work (that kinda got better as the game went along), decent gameplay, and a techno-gothic soundtrack. Seriously, listen to this shit for a minute:

That's from the goddamn prologue stage. I think it sets the tone pretty well.
Complaints are that some of the bosses take way too goddamned long to fight, most of the enemies do inflated damage in the US version and you have almost no defensive options, and grinding up the legions can be a bit of a pain in the ass. But I recall it fondly as a bargain bin purchase.

maybe but optimistically this could mean Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City might be playable without GFWL eventually
Don't you fucking play with me like that. The Snow Pirates got a call from Sgt. Cortez to join them in Never Never (Getting Another Game) Land and rode off on the railway gun into the sunset, never to be seen again, blowing up mountains just because they were there.

Don't you fucking play with me like that
I threw 5 qualifiers in that statement for a reason. I want it to happen, recent history, if you look at RE5 on steam, says it might happen, and we should hopefully agree that Capcom has some duty to these games to the extent that it should happen.
Lost Planet 2 hasn't seen a private depot update since those three on the 18th but Resident Evil:Operation Raccoon City got one 5 days ago. We'll hopefully see some more depot updates this week or next.

What I really want to see is a PC port of Shinsekai: Into The Depths. It's a metroidvania that was made by the kunitsu-gami team and was exclusive to Apple Arcade before it got ported to the Nintendo Switch.
The soundtrack is on Steam but the game itself isn't which is minorly infuriating

there is no justice left in the world, it is dead and we killed it

That sounds like poor design.
I mean, they tried. No online play testing and no week-by-week balance patching. The crazy stuff in MvC2 2 wasn't known about until it had been out a while. If you look at tier lists in old magazines, maybe even some early tourney results, I'm pretty sure they're way different from the handful of "only viable characters" out there nowadays.

Even 60yo zoomers got filtered by the Ghosts n Goblins series. GnG Resurrection was pretty good. Saddens my heart that Capcom's other franchises are unlikely to be similarly graced.

Hold the fuck on....

The japan popular games and the games females play are nearly identical

Are the majority of japanese gamers female now or something?
1727899662060.png1727899699333.png

Literally only one game is in the top spot for both listings and they only share one other game in the Top 5. I would hardly call that "nearly identical".

Why does Street Fighter have so many versions of the same game? I know The New Warriors gave us Cammy, Dee Jay, T. Hawk, and Fei Long...but there are so many versions of Alpha and 2...
I had Alpha on GBA and it was.......meh at best because so much shit got cut.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 has another version of Alpha....I don't get it lol

SF2 World Warrior - The original SF2, also on SNES

SF2 Champion Edition - Adds the 4 bosses as playable, also "fixes" and removes things from the previous version

SF2 Hyper Fighting - Was only made because the various chinese hacks (such as rainbow edition) was doing better than the official capcom games (even though they were fucking bonkers and broken as fuck). Makes the game faster (which was one of the main complaints about SF2 to begin with), gives the characters new moves, and another color pallet.

SSF2 The New Challengers - As you said, adds 4 new characters. This game was made on the (at the time) new CPS2 board with "Q-Sound" technology, which is why the announcer sounds like Big Bird with a cold. The new moves the characters got on the last version were tweaked (mostly for the worse). Also removes turbo for some asinine reason

SSF2 Turbo - The "true" SF2 version that people flock to in droves. Brings back turbo (as the name implies). Tweaks characters even more but also allows you to play their TNC versions (via a code when highlighting each character). Also Akuma makes his first appearance and is also selectable via an even harder code and is broken as fuck.

Hyper SF2 - Anniversary game where it gives you every single SF2 character from every single version of the game. IMO it's the "definitive" edition, but tourneyfags hate it because it fixes some of the bugs that were present in SSF2T

Ultra SF2 - The "latest" version that's on Switch. Basically the HD Remix of SSF2T but now it has Evil Ryu and Violent Ken as selectable characters. HD Remix is notorious for it's crap art, OCReMiX soundtrack, and adding wonky shit to characters nobody asked for (like Dictator's fake slide).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alpha 1 - The original game. Dictator, Akuma, and Dan are hidden characters you need a code to select.

Alpha 2 - Same game, but mechanics are tweaked up a bit. This is where Custom Combos were born, but are supercharged to 1000x (basically your character is on crack cocaine the entire time). People prefer this version over Alpha 3 strictly because of the Custom Combo mechanics. Also some characters are unlockable and only available depending on which console version you get (Shin Akuma = Playstation, Evil Ryu = Saturn).

Alpha 2 Gold - Has every character from regular 2 including the alternate versions and secret characters and is also where Cammy makes her appearance again (but only in VS mode console). Fixes the bugs that were in regular 2 and again because of this tourneyfags scoff it off (starting to notice a pattern?)

Alpha 3 - Music and theme is COMPLETELY different from the 1st 2 games. Mechanics are also revamped. Grooves are now a thing. X = SSF2T, A = Standard Alpha bar, V = Custom Combo only, which has been slowed down greatly from how it was in 2, but you now have a shadow in the tail end of the trail that follows you and does extra damage for you (depending on which button you press it's either close or far away). Boxer and the two dolls are secret characters.

Alpha 3 Upper - Based on the home ports minus World Tour. Has the home verison characters are in this. Also on the GBA that has 3 characters from CVS2 (Maki, Eagle, Yun)

Alpha Anthology - Has all Alpha versions + a exclusive VS mode where you can pick every Alpha character from every version. Also adds 3 new grooves. Red Boss groove (which is the one Dictator uses), Green Darkstalkers Groove (uses the same mechanics as that game), and Blue SF3 Groove (can use supers AND has the Parry mechanic)

Alpha 3 MAX - PSP version that doesn't have the extra grooves or character versions, but gives you everything else, including Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution. Also had a fuck-ton of playable modes.

Sir you deserve an award for explaining it in a great easy way. Lol.

I hadn't realized they have another version on Switch! How interesting they haven't really done much with Third Strike, although I imagine that was a bit of a flop.

How much do you people want to bet that 14% is a lie?

Also, really telling how the biggest complaint on the survey is the reboot issue. These cattle things are ruining the industry by themselves.

The male/female splits on the Capcom Super Elections are goddamn stark.

AH hell yeah dude! This game was one of my favorites back on the Ps2, it wasn't super amazing or anything but the theme and the mechanics were intresting enough that for years I deeply wanted a sequel to expand on them more!

That and it was perfect edgy teen game, which certainly fit the 2000's lmao.

Fun Fact: It WAS a flop. It wasn't until that "infamous" video popped up on the internet where people were like "ZOMG THIS GAME IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!" and "To be fair, you have to have a high I.Q. to understand 3rd strike!"

Third Strike only had 2 ports:
  • it was included in Anniversary Edition for PS2/XBOX
  • it had an "online edition" for PS3/XBLive
other than that, anytime anything "3rd strike" related is added to something else, it's usually either receives lukewarm reception or is somehow worse than 3rd strike.
  • CVS2 - Has P-Groove as "THE" 3rd strike groove, but is considered the worst groove on the Capcom side (with S-Groove being the worst groove on the SNK side). Lowest guard bar and it takes an enternity to increase the super bar. basically you only pick P-Groove if you're a parry master.
  • Capcom Fighting Evolution - Has Yun, ChunLi, Alex, and Urien as selectable SF3 characters, but apparently they're gimped in this game (e.g. Urein can't pull of his Aegis Reflector combos like he can in 3rd strike)

Technically 3rd strike is the last 3rd version for Street Fighter 3 (New Gen being the first and Second Impact being well the second.)

Before the 30th anniversary collection, 3rd strike was released several times on the likes of Dreamcast, PS2 and PS3/360 online services.

Third Strike had a online edition rerelease released back in 2011 for PSN and Xbox Live with additional visual stuff, trails, GGPO, an optional remixes of the soundtrack and other minor things added.

But as far as additional content or balance changes after 3rd strike? Nah, only in romhacks will you get that which there are a few. The most known one being 4rd Strike (4rd is intentional).

Also to add but there was another Super Turbo version for GBA called revival which changes the stages a lot, Akuma get his raging demon and such. it was also a messy game filled with errors, limitations and the pal/na version will crash if you reach shin akuma in arcade

And I suppose Street Fighter: The Movie The Game on Saturn/psx can also kinda counts as unlike the Arcade, the consoles play like another SSF2T version since it plays almost like it. Aside from the sprite changes to the green screen actors. It introduced EX moves for the first time in SF history and Sawada from the movie is also playable.

Than there is that FMV movie game based on the animated movie that was only released in Japan that has only Ryu and The cyborg fighting twice before and after the lengthy FMV sequences where you collect data to power the cyborg for the final battle. Has a secret animated movie footage such as Akuma throwing a projectile at you if you click on him in one of the scenes. And the endings change depending if you win or lose or get a perfect against ryu. Get a perfect and you can watch bison get man handled by his cyborg.
