Capcom's War Against Modding - Games older than ten years shall not be spared from Capcom's DRM against modding because some coomer couldn't keep his nude mods from spilling out of his pants at a tourney.

I think we've had this conversation before, but from the few pro devs I know, this is fairly common. A freelance 3D artist I know draws porn between studio game contracts. I suspect this has always been a thing, but it's just the recent crop of hacks don't know when to say enough is enough.
Pretty much any artist worth his or her skill has a personal stash of porn / erotic stuff, either in secret or under a different alias. There are many artists known for such roots who still worked on entertainment projects: Satoshi Urushihara (Valken, Langrisser, Growlanser), Nomura Ryouji (La Pucelle), Oda Non (Metal Max Xeno), etc.
I also do remember on the american side about Bruce Timm and Chris Sanders outside of their involvement in animation.

It's why I cannot stand this term of "coomer" used so broadly (specifically on the topic of art and attractive female designs) as it gives off the impression of this ultra-puritan & prudish american/anglo individual who needs to virtue-signal, no matter how detached from the reality. And the main problem lies certain inviduals are really dedicated to be the world moral police.

Figure/life drawing is generally a required credit in a lot of colleges if you pursue a fine arts degree.

Pretty much everyone who earned one of these degrees has sketched someone's breasts or crotch as part of their coursework.

By this weird standard all artists are "coomers"

I really don't get this recentish trend where both the hard left and hard right are extremely anti sexuality and anti nudity. It's strange.

Why? Nude mods for Resident Evil and Street Fighter make some amount of sense but who the fuck wants to see Megaman naked?
You just reminded me people love the RE nude mods on Leon, Ada, Claire, Chris, and Jill.

These points are retarded. Any form of nudity in video games has been implemented with the intention of being erotic and/or to cater to a fetish. It's never been purely "artistic".

Anyway, your dopamine receptors have to be diluted from so much porn if you have the need to see every playable character naked, all the time.

And, closer to Capcom, the closest thing that was ever a Mega Man Battle Network fangame?

https://moriyashrine.org/files/file/929-shanghaiexe-genso-network/
I guess I have to be the colossal faggot that steps up to defend the grorious nipponese honor of Touhou fangames.

Touhou might be gay as fuck but, in my opinion, Shanghai.exe is unquestionably the best MMBN game. All of the Capcom titles have at least one major design decision that holds them back or makes them obnoxious, and Shanghai has the fewest of them by far. If anything it captures the BEST parts of each game, and it also perfectly captures the spirit of the original MMBN aesthetics, something I'm particularly sensitive to as a spritework autist. It had a troubled development period towards the end because Capcom kept fucking taking it down everywhere. This was several years before any kind of news about a MMBN Legacy Collection, so they were just actively going out of their way to fuck over MMBN fan content during a period where the series was dead as fuck with nothing to look forward to. For a completely unique style of RPG that you can count the number of people that have tried to replicate it on one hand, and the number who succeeded not at all.

Disclaimer: I have played and enjoyed several Touhou-themed fangames. I also played them in my formative years and was consistently impressed enough by their quality to check out the actual real bullet hell ass Touhou games, which I also quite liked and still like on occasion. No, I don't know why The Touhou Community is like that and don't look at it because they don't care about video games

Ahem...
Roll, Boone, Ayla, Layer, Iris, Ciel...
.... Who are Boone and Layer? And when you say Ayla, did you actually mean Alia from the X series or someone else?

Incidentally, while I'm here:
Has anyone besides me ever found the BN universe raises a lot of questions?

Like do standard programming languages like C or Assembly still exist?

And what happens when you play a computer game? Is it like in Reboot where there's little AI people in your computer who become actors in the game?

To what extent are Net Navis sentient? I know in the anime at least (I'm not far in the games yet) they're capable of a full range of emotions and thoughts and can even leave their operators for awhile and hang out at a certain hidden part of the internet.

I ask because, I mean, wouldn't this mean Net Navis are basically a slave race? Or can they actually leave any time they want? And if that happened, could the person who bought the device containing the Net Navi in question demand a refund?

And if Net Navis can fall in love, can they breed?

I don't even wanna consider the fate of female net navis who have male owners....

The anime, I've heard, introduces this concept later that net navis can come into the real world and "merge" with their human partners. Which just..... adds to all the above questions.

Sorry for horrifying you. We'll get back to discussing games now.

These points are retarded. Any form of nudity in video games has been implemented with the intention of being erotic and/or to cater to a fetish. It's never been purely "artistic".
Those nude greek statues in the background of Kid Icarus on NES? Totally a fetish!

A guy I knew had an interest in Tijuana bibles. Supposedly many famous comic arts of the time made them, though we don't know for sure because they all wrote under pen names to avoid legal problems.

I really don't get this recentish trend where both the hard left and hard right are extremely anti sexuality and anti nudity. It's strange.
It is strange, but also completely predictable.

It's basically horseshoe theory. The left wants sexy banned because it's sexist, problematic, demeaning, it distracts people from feminism and racism. The right wants sexy banned because it's sinful, degenerate, coom-brained, it distracts people from god and work. They want the same outcome, for the same reasons, just the justification changes.

They both even have the same projection and "lady doth protest to much" problem. Like Paton Oswald said. "Male feminist turns out to be a sex pest" is "family values politician turns out to be gay" for millennials.

I feel like some of you are attacking a strawman. Almost nobody cares if an artist has a personal stash of porno. The problem is when, as Dredd says, the current crop of hacks can't seem to separate their horniness from their work.

To go back to UDON again, one of their freelancers uses their real name on their Twitter to both A) talk about their smut fanfiction of various franchises, and B) promote the variety of licensed Capcom products they had a part in with that name on it. It's a generally disconcerting trend, to put it mildly.

Both the Chinese nigger cat and the people saying how all artists usually do porn work on the side have a point and I think both sides are jumping to two different extremes in a really nitpicky way that's missing the forest for the trees.

On the one hand, some of you are going "YOU'RE JUST BEING ULTRA-PURITAN" and on the other hand, the one faggot is going "ALL NUDITY BAD". There's middle grounds to this shit.

Topless women laying in beds that you play a rhythm/button mashing game to fuck in God of War isn't erotic or fetish catering unless you're 12 and have no access to internet porn for whatever reason, and it definitely isn't "artistic" in intent. The scenes featuring nudity in XVI, on the other hand, help to convey a theme of sensuousness, interpersonal connectivity, or in some instances even discomfort and possibly revulsion (at least in a few specific contexts).

Nude mods, on the other hand, are almost purely for the sake of giving people material to take videos/screenshots of and fap to. If you deny this, then you're either lying or delusional. Very rarely is it ever used for "artistic nudity" purposes and more than half of the time people try to present that media as such, it's very often to excuse showing it off since it is coomer-bait no matter how you slice it.

So basically, a Public Service Announcement:

If you draw porn, do it under a pen name, and never ever admit that it was you who drew it. Don't make the Linkara mistake where people can easily connect your coomerism to you directly and use it against you.

Don't use nude mods if there's even a 1% chance your gonna be playing the game in front of other people.

And for fucks sake... find games or media that is actually worth getting horny for! Getting turned on by that tall lady from Resident Evil Village is just sad.

To bring it back to modding for a second...

Ahem...
Roll, Boone, Ayla, Layer, Iris, Ciel...
The Mega Man X Dive Offline modding scene is particularly, uh, lovely. You do have your usual suite of nude mods of the underage-looking characters in particular kept out of the public eye.

There's also a really strange element of competition with Capcom and its the distributor of the Global online version, NebulaJoy. This happened to the point that apparently NJ threatened some kind of retaliation against the modding Discord over what they characterized as some kind of harassment.

A handful of actual Mega Man characters people wanted were made, but now they're doing Beyblade and Touhou characters for some reason. Which gets weird if you do some digging and find out that apparently the guy leading the modding Discord has discussed their attraction to boys with white hair, which just so happens to be the Beyblade character in question.

Given things like this, I can kind of understand why Capcom is unhappy with mod scenes.

I feel like you have to dig a bit to uncover that since, as you said, it's definitely kept out of the public eye. I can't find shit like that just based on a surface level search for mods. Most people are just content to either re-add content that was removed from Offline (like the collab content) or put up their super special ultra original the characters. Or just characters they wanted in X DiVE in general, like that Prometheus mod I think I saw recently.

It's not that strange. NJ is just scummy in general and it isn't the first time they've thrown shitfits. I'm pretty sure the Global X DiVE Discord is still seething at Capcom for making a Steam version of the game available in NA and NOT using Global's servers for it. I wouldn't doubt a lot of NJ customer support representatives "devs" are still probably bitching that Capcom TOTALLY stole players and money from them with the NA Steam version.

Those faggots just really want everybody to be giving money to playing their neutered "Global" version which they totally have more rights to and will be able to add "Global exclusive" content that they still haven't really added and have admitted on more than one occasion that they can't actually add anything tangible to the game other than adjusting rates.

Kaidalen in particular is a massive faggot if I recall. A literal trust fundie who doesn't have to work, who adds DRM to his mod such that it checks for official Steam versions and such because he's against piracy (as he's rich).

It's not that strange. NJ is just scummy in general and it isn't the first time they've thrown shitfits.
No, it's not just that. It's more like "oh, well Global changed stats on this character? We're going to show those losers by doing this, and this, and this!" Modders were actually mad that people were paying attention to Global at all, and turned it into an e-dick-measuring contest that is so common to modders. Which seems questionable to do when that version does have connections with Capcom.

They barely have connections with Capcom to the point it comes across as dubious at best.

I don't blame those modders. The people who run Global are fucking shitters.

When a guy like this is the top representative for the Global version, I can't reasonably disagree. Jeez, keep it professional.

Zero-X is a humongous faggot who likes siccing his Discord mob on anyone who repeatedly calls him out on his bullshit.

Unless he performed the bare minimum of opsec since I last checked, you can dig through some of the channels and find cases where he's quoted critics from Twitter or linked people who compiled YouTube videos on him pointing to his bullshit just to stir up the Global circlejerk into cowtipping or mobbing.

IIRC there was a very covered up stir initially when Global launched too where you had people trying to advertise warnings that it might be a scam and saying the "devs" and "admins" were shady, but that seemed to have gotten hushed up within a few months.

Reminder that a lot of "influencer" like spastic Maxmillian and other street fighter and monster hunter streamers are part of an official Capcom influencer program. The capcock sucking is either disingenuous or extreme coping.
I'm just glad I didn't put any money in their stocks. I was upset that I missed the opportunity to do so. Not so much anymore lol.

The problem I have with that is you're defining artistic intent to a very narrow definition of what you like and don't like. I could make the argument that God of War having topless women is as much an artist choice as some pretentious indie game pretending to be high brow. If anything, games like God of War are at least honest with their intentions. I think this is why nudity and sex in David Cage games comes across as skeevy whereas Dead or Alive Volleyball is comes across as fun TnA for the audience.

Back on topic.
