Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

Notice how they are only doing it because some of the animators are women or black, not because it is awful to lose a job without warning as result of poor business decisions from higher ups (even if some of these people do deserve it).
Edit: typos
Based on what I've read, it's more a contract thing. WBD aren't the only company who're obligated to keep things like this running.

It still baffles me that the majority of people who get jobs in these fields only get them based on their big shot connections and not through any kind of merit, I don't mind having connections in the industry but you should at least have the skills to back it up. Evidently, none of them have this and most of the good cartoons these days were done by YouTubers like Zach Hadel for Smiling Friends or were done by people who had only done minor sketch work prior like J.G Quintel for Regular Show.

They stole Meg Griffin and smear her with tar
What really weirds me out is that you can tell which animator (or most likely storyboarder, since no one animates in the US anymore) did each shot. The youtube thumbnail has a face that could be considered passable. The lips actually follow the contours of the mouth, for example. The still from the post you quoted, though? Her mouth is curled into a smile, but her lips are still stuck in the middle of her face like she's some kinda porcelain doll.

Seriously, where is the fucking QA?

Oh, wait. Sorry. My bad. Wanting "quality" is a chudcel thing these days.

The weirdness may not even be that technical.
Without any context, it looks like hentai orgasm face, like the ones on the weird shirts people were wearing. In motion, it could just be a sarcastic or nervous eyeroll with a grin. Just a still? Jarring.

I'm a bit MATI at these retards.

These retards deserve to have their jobs Minecraft'd to the fucking Nether. Even if the article is clickbait, these's retards & their attitude is as such that they shouldn't be given a job, even when laid off. In fact, some of them don't work there at CN at all, which makes them even more retarded.

Even when using the same business-minded thinking that Zaslav is using, the clickbait lay-off being real wouldn't have been surprising, the majority of people don't give a shit about CN, there are more people that hate it, than there are people that actually watch it. Like, if they ever have a KyoAni arson situation, no one will donate to them & help them rebuild (like KyoAni). Hell, if anything, there might be some who donate to the arsonist just so he can upgrade from home-made Molotov Cocktails to Grenades, & finish the damn job.

Why would this happen? Because these creatively impotent fucks rarely make anything worth watching. People rarely give a shit about most their shows, TTGO, Regular Show, Adventure Time, Gumball, & some others are the only modern CN shows that I've seen getting some love nowadays, & that's mostly from kids. Other things like Steven Universe, who's majority of fans are lolcows. Any great show with potential to be kino (Symbionic Titan) gets axed for the shit-shows. All this is not even going onto the "anime domination" part, everyone who's not on copium knows that one.

Also, RJ Palmer is a massive faggot, despite his talent.
I get the sentiment, but still think you need to chill a little. Higher ups and show runners are really the ones that should have course corrected this shit a while ago. Instead you got execs greenlighting unmarketable shit and showrunners just doing whatever they want. Your average storyboard artist or character designer arent really in a position to be choosey most of the time, so they go along with it.
Truly insane (but not surprising) how these so-called "industry working" people act like the most petulant children on the internet.
It's become abundantly clear that social media has not been a boon for the industry. There have been a handful of animators I've unfollowed for getting into twitter slap fights with cartoon autists. I get artists are touchy, but holy shit this is unprofessional.

>RJ Palmer
Every fucking time there's art drama or a new art related hate train is going on this faggot appears like clockwork with the most basic bitch takes. Im not going to be shocked if he's been blacklisted by most major studios.
It's not just art drama, but just about any bullshit he just comes out of nowhere. Hell, it's how I found out he's KickVic, when he commented to the the nigger (the BLM-supporting, black guy behind the comics) behind Aggretsuko, who congratulated Jamie Marchi for winning the case.

YouTube updated their search results to make it show that “cartoon network shutdown” is one of the first three things to show up. Funny enough, I also happened to see this:

Little bit off-topic, but seeing these sign-offs made me wonder how many were created and produced by contract companies like Primal Screen for example. Primal Screen's been working on CN Promos and commercial bumpers for quite a long while.
Edit: I had to link the vids, because their shit is so copyright protected it won't let me link the media to KiwiFarms.
Edit #2: Found a few Utube sites that have archived a few vids.
2022 Demo Reel

CN ID Bumpers
Cartoon Network ID
Cartoon Network: Scrappy Loses It!
Cartoon Network Latin America: Taco Time

2009 Demo Reel has one of the CN Sign-offs in the video, along with a few CN ID Bumpers.
Primal Screen: 2009 Work Reel
Primal Screen: 2009 Animation Reel

Also whatever the fuck Dora commercial this is,
Nickelodeon: Dora Census

Forgive me for sperging but,

This really isn't the first time producers/writers did this whetever it was for brownie points, patting themselves on the back or both, in fact; it reminds me of recently going down the memory lane by reading about a childhood cartoon of mine called W.I.T.C.H. having one of character's sexuality being changed after Greg Weisman stepped in as a producer for season 2, despite in original source that character being a boy-crazy teen girl, trying to imply she's lesbian because most of her relationships in the series didn't work, and only thing that can be described as a "lesbian" gesture is that character holding another girl's hand or something. When someone told him that they don't see this kind of thing, he responded with:

Archived webpage where Greg talks about this

Back to the topic;
I am sincerely really tired of this meme of "tomboyish or not 100% traditionally feminine girls = lesbian akshually" shit being pushed. It feels downright insulting, there are many girls in the world that are tomboyish or not completely girly but straight and to push this idea that all of them who are like this are "in the closet" or "lying to themselves" is regressive on its own but I guess you can be regressive towards people as much as you want as long as you say you're progressive. And of course, they pair up Velma with a strong sassy indepedent POC wahman, how else people will be able to tell that producers and writers are pushing something?
Totally did not know Greg Weisman was involved in W.I.T.C.H. I think I only saw the first season because I was disappointed by some of the changes they made from the books/comics. I associate Greg mostly with Young Justice, which is ... a mess.

I liked Adventure Time at the beginning because it was completely unlike anything I'd seen on TV before.
It felt like a transplanted web series with the writers being unabashed nerds and making tons of raunchy and/or disturbing jokes.
This turned into a curse with shows afterward having writers' fetishes unsubtly on full display and just stealing plots verbatim from whatever anime/manga that tumbler was reading today. Adventure Time itself was caught in this trap with a shifting scale of pandering and an unsatisfying fart of a conclusion.

Obviously this wasn't the first show to do such a thing, Animaniacs had tons of nerd references, obvious furry-bait and jokes about the usenet WB fandom ...but that never spiralled into a giant mess that fucked up the entire industry. Possibly the gaming industry as well.
I'm not even sure if Adventure Time itself is to blame or if it's just a symptom of the conditions surrounding it. Gaming was certainly rotten to the core by this point.
I suppose all you really need is one bad day... We live in a society...
Season 1 of Adventure Time is flawless and was indeed totally charting its own path. Even though I loved some of the later "emotional" episodes, in retrospect, I think they kind of hijacked the show into being something else, and I now prefer the sillier early episodes because they weren't taking themselves too seriously and there wasn't that weird interplay with fandom complaints.

Always enjoy people dragging Cartoon Brew. Professional shit stirrers.
