Original has more hourglass figure and more feminine. Remake is netflixed

It's really obvious what a downgrade this is character design-wise. Velma has a figure that's nearly identical to Daphne's in the original show, but her silhouette is instantly recognizable and distinct 60 years later. The weight of the sweater isn't just random, it always has those poofy, pushed-up sleeves and a defined turtleneck that doesn't just blend into her neck. Good character design is about defining those shapes, whereas the new show uses her "dumpiness" as an excuse to make her look generic. There's no personality to her clothes, they're just hanging on her.

Even Meg has a better design because you would probably recognize the Family Guy "style" if you only saw the outline, though it's extremely simplified and Meg isn't the most identifiable.

Issue is, it's not Velma at all. It is, at best, an OC by Mindy Kaling, who's just cosplaying as Velma. Which is why the big dumpy sweater, is turned into a fat bitch, like Mindy Kaling herself is. The turtleneck, as you said, is that it's not working as a turtleneck is supposed to. The issue also probably comes with fact that the hair should be covering the top-edge of the turtleneck, to do some defining between the neck & the head,

Also, the boots are fugly, the strapped sandals give a timid & dainty vibe that a nerd like Velma should have, compared to Daphne's fashionable ones. The boots are generic.

If they wanted to "subvert expectations" so much, then they should the do the change of Velma being Brick Shithouse inside the sweater like the fans always wanted.

But nooooo, let's turn her into a fucking pajeeta, cause THAT'S what "everyone" wants.

So apparently the guy who voices Hunter in Disney's Owl House is pissed off because someone cited one of HotDiggedyDemon's videos that had a valid point about Voice Actors not wanting to voice characters of different races.

I stopped reading his drivel after the third "y'all", although seeing the "allowing a character like [Bleach's] Chad to be played by someone more authentic" is the most retarded thing I've seen from someone who's not even doing anime dubs. The entire industry needs a cleansing.

EDIT: Oh he's been doing dubs for FUNimation--'xcuse me, Crunchyroll. He's already biased and I can see Beau Billingslea telling him to pound sand when it comes to "authenticity". Haven't seen Beau say anything about this, though after Jamieson Price's comments, I'm trying not to get my hopes up Beau's based.

So by Zeno's logic we should let actual psychopaths voice cartoon murders/villains, and make all young boy characters be voiced only by boys biologically that age.
We should also make voice actors like Tara Strong step down/redub her speaking roles because 'clearly' a voice actor who actually sounds like a, not real, cartoon character vs a voice actor that looks just like the, not real, cartoon character is biased and has nothing to do with the quality of the product.
By this logic, we should also give all alien cartoon characters no dialogue, seeing as it would be incredibly racist to voice an alien without proper representation.
Also, shows that depict inorganic objects as characters should be silenced since actual objects do not speak.

Am I understanding this correctly?

I quite don’t remember voice actors in the 90’s or 00’s willingly leaving a role because the skin color of the fictional character that they are voicing in a fictional cartoon made for children on TV was not right.

Aside from having to type out the last few parts of that sentence as if this is something that we need to “respect”, something tells me that this kind of thing has been brewing since the last few years of the last decade.

Obviously no one agrees with this, but no one can be this dense enough to outright think that this is rational and goodwill on the voice actor’s part in question.

Happens sometimes so this tidbit isn't a bad thing (see: Charlie Brown), but oh-so-shockingly they have to get recast every couple years.

iirc ADV's Nadia dub had some legit kids for Jean and Nadia?
but yeah if you expect your series to have legs a real boy isn't such a good plan unless this is some bizarrely on-point aging over the course of the show

Yup. And there was Ocean's Escaflowne dub with Andrew Francis as Dilandau, and he would still return for the movie. Kid actors are hard to get right, though; the Nelvana Cardcaptors dub cast kids in Sakura and Li's roles (Li had to be recast midway) but a lot of people thought Carly McKillip was an adult when she was actually 11 or 12 when she voiced Sakura.

The moment someone uses "y'all" unironically in a sentence and or they are not from the South I immediately tune them out. Same goes with "yikes" and "my dude".

The entire industry of dubbing anime into English has involved mostly white people voicing Japanese characters, but of course it's only a problem now when it involves black people and needs to give them "more chances."

Do they think people like James Earl Jones would never get any work because of "internalized bias?" Hiring on anything except the person's ability to do the job right is irresponsible at best and damaging at worst. If you want more black people in voice acting maybe you should encourage more black people to start training for it instead of the frankly insulting method of having someone step down to give them the job because of "representation" instead of working for it like everyone else does.

This is Zeno Robinson, right? I used to think that guy was cool, because he’s one of the last openly Christian people left in the business. How wrong I was to assume that.

I'm starting to get sick of the patronizing "you don't work in the industry" shit that gets trot out all the time when these arguments pop up. The "industry" isnt some incomprehensibly arcane entity, and there is more info out there than ever on its inner workings.
If we want to look specifically at opportunity, I think the fact that you have to move to a retardedly expensive shithole just to get the chance to enter the industry is more of an issue than racism. A problem compounded by unions that make it even more difficult for outsiders to even get their foot in the door.
I understand why it is that way, I just think it sucks, and people pointing to wacism are disingenuous at best.

Fr, imagine still wanting to move to Hollywood for your "big break."

For the last few hours, an account on twitter named CartoonTea/@thecartoontea has been leaking unreleased animatics, character sheets, scripts from shows such as animaniacs and the cuphead show. These leaks appear to be credible.

The head writer of the cuphead team replied to someone asking about how cuphead's multiple leaks affect production.
No surprise, it causes problems.

The use of "#zanytwt" in the animaniacs post makes me think it's some animaniacs autist posting these things, but who knows.

This response is a no-brainer when you remember the shitshow that ensued during Voltron's production where some asshat was attempting to blackmail DreamWorks with accidentally-leaked pictures the original taker had taken down upon request.

Much lulz to come if these crews stressed over the leaks so much their morale all drops and therefore quality suffers.

I never cared for them much before, but I do remember disliking them since them since their Netflix interview for The Gay Man. However, this just makes me fucking hate them. It's so tone-deaf that it's is something that I would expect from a committee, not 2 (supposedly) critically-acclaimed duo of creators.
