While the film doesn't have any gay characters, what it does push is Marxism.
The whole deal with the animals in Hoppers is that they're basically a collectivist society that shares everything, even allowing themselves to be eaten if someone gets hungry.
They even have a rule for it called "Pond rules." And if anyone dares to go against these rules, they will kill you... I'm serious, they will just straight up kill you for going against their order.
Hell, the main protagonist is an environmentalist, that's her entire character. There's nothing else to her, and the film tries desperately to add depth to her character by throwing in a dead-grandma backstory for her.
It's emotionally manipulative, and it barely adds anything else other than to make you sad.
