Castlevania Thread - Vampires, Whips, and Horror's Greatest Hits Now In One Gaming Franchise

There's this channel called "The Noble Demon" who puts out absolutely cracked remixes of Castlevania shit alongside tracks from a bunch of other series like Kirby and The Legend of Zelda. She did a remix of Successor of Fate and it sounds incredible in my opinion.
It's a troon (an enby to be precise), but admittedly a decently talented one.

DS titles got re-released recently, glad to see them finally available.

Played all of them a long-ass time ago. What do you guys think of them personally? They were solid from what I remember. (Except those retarded magic seals you had to draw every time a boss was beaten in Dawn, that shit was tedious)

Found out SOTN of all things is getting a fan remake; I don't really see the point though, original is already fantastic as is.

Some of Harmony's OST has been rearranged, don't really dislike the original tracks that much (a few of them are personal favorites) but it's a decent re-tuning.

I'm more of a classicvania guy, but I have beaten all of the rpg ones too at this point. I think DoS is solid, though less inspired than Aria for sure, but it works well as a sort of Aria Gaiden. I didnt mind the seal drawing, but I'm willing to put up with mad jank if a game is cool.

Portrait of Ruin I liked even better. It has cool little twists on the formula with the duo system(and how the penultimate boss is also a cool duo fight) and the painting allowing for more setting. It's more "linear" as a result of the painting system, but I think that's fine and gives the game a very nice pace.

OoE is my favorite. It's like this really wonderful fusion of the classicvania and rpg styles, and I love the difficulty. Not being able to face tank enemies as much as the previous two is a huge improvement, and forced me to really learn the boss fights(which are quite good). Also Shanoa is a total badass and is my favorite design in the entirety of the rpg games. I mean, just look at this concept art. Max level cool OoE_Shanoa.jpg

Good memories with that one.

I am equal parts amazed and relieved that Shitflix hasn't pounced on Order and made an awful show out of it, especially because it has quite a few things that would definitely get them chomping at the bit for one.

Seeing what they did with Rondo doesn't even make me wanna play a morbid game of "What would occur in an OoE show"

Edit: Apropo meme

Oh yeah, netflix would butcher OoE so hard. They would turn Shanoa into a Mary sue "abuse survivor" or some such nonsense.

I havent watched Nocturne because I cant bear to see them turn one of the most badass motherfuckers ever into that blubbering mess from your meme. The fact that normies only know Richter that way should be a fucking crime.

Speaking of Classicvania, I've always loved Bloodlines. I view it as the unsung masterpiece of that era, if not the whole franchise.

From the varied locales filled with crazy challenges that never feel cheap or unfair (at least to me), to a meaty, impactful soundtrack that I can easily rank among the series's best (stages 2 and 5 are my personal favorites, but they have close competition), and the gameplay styles of John and Eric presenting different approaches to traversing each stage, it's fantastic.

I recall when they announced Portrait as a continuation of Bloodlines, I was a bit surprised that Konami remembered it.

Sucks that John and Eric died though

I've been hearing about it for a few years now. I really hope they fix a few of the niggling little technical issues that no port bothered to address, like the music loop restarting every time you leave an area. (If I hear the beginning of Final Toccata one more fucking time...)

Have you seen this? Neat little concept from what's been presented, plus it'll be cool to hear Rondo's tracks given the Genesis treatment.

It's neat, but still needs work. The music lags whenever certain actions are performed.

if they REALLY want to nail it on the music, they should take cues from Castlevania Bloodlines.

Love me some Castlevania, even playing through the Dominus collection.

But for the love of YHWH, can we stop with the crossovers for a bit? I swear its like every week it's another game. Next week it'll be Castlevania x Fortnite. Concord would of got a Castlevania crossover if it didn't die in the crib at the rate they're going.

Well, you gotta remember, for the longest time Konami was more then happy to just make Castlevania Pachinko games until the Japanese laws got changed. All of this is probably just a cheap way to keep Castlevania in every ones minds while they work on a new game (I hope).

I was about to sell my PAL-copy of Symphony of the Night to the PS1, but thankfully, I stopped myself before I could earnestly proceed with the plan.
The only thing not great with my copy of SOTN is that the music-CD that came along with it when I bought it from eBay is pretty damaged. The blue cover seems to be fairly damaged, with chipped colors. I don't know if it would work when inserted into a CD-player, but the bottom part of the CD seems to be intact at least.

Anyways, while I love the art style of SOTN, and while I think it's a good game on its own, I don't consider it to be a fantastic game, as so many people claim it is. My main complaint is that it's simply too easy, and that the role-playing elements are just fluff which serve little to no actual meaning gameplay-wise. I guess this is true for most Metroidvania-games though.

At any rate, I did like both Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 1 & 2, and I especially liked that you got to play as Dracula in Lords of Shadow 2. Neither is a perfect game, but I found them to be enjoyable enough back when. Maybe I should replay them to see if they still hold up.

I really wish we could get another installment into the series, but then again, considering Current Year, I guess one should be careful for what they wish for.

I think im the only guy actually looking forward to this. Ironically for the Haitians (hahahaha) and unironically for the fights, villains and more alucard.
