Cat vomiting issue

i keep seeing him go to his food and water like he wants to eat/drink, but is reluctant.
Sorry for shitposting in your serious thread. You can try bringing some drops of the food or water up to his face and see if he's capable of licking it? Maybe he's experiencing some kind of facial weakness.

My cat has a tendency to throw up.

And, my cat will always eat any food available.

The resolution has been to restrict the amount of food per serving to 1-2tbsp. This way, if she pukes, it isn't much.

The downside is I have to schedule 5 feedings per day to compensate for the small quantities.

He can lick, he’s licked at the soupy pate a few times and he’s licked dew off the window.

Give him lots of pets and check his litter box in the morning. He's not going to drop dead overnight. Just make sure he's getting fluids.
i can’t right now. I can go get the dropper and try to force water him tomorrow. There’s a veterinarian the next town over that’s open tomorrow.

Since the only thing he’ll pay attention to is his treats, I Dumped the whole little baggy out for him.

@Flaming_Barghast this thread sounds right up your wheelhouse.
It most certainly is!

@Ughubughughughughughghlug sounds like it's a recipe change. Check the ingredients compared to before. The first 5 ingredients should be some kind of crude or pure protein like fish, chicken, etc.
You mentioned checking vomit, any blood? If not, it's likely 1 of 2 things: his stomach isn't handling the recipe change or, for whatever reason, had food poisoning. Check if purina had any recalls recently, them and blue buffalo have had issues with contamination before.
I would honestly go with Hills, I've never had a problem other than my cat eating so fast they threw up from eating too much, too quickly.

Cats vomiting is usually not a big enough deal on its own, they do it for any number of reasons like hair agitating their stomach (it's actually why they eat plants, makes em puke and get rid of the irritation) they do it from hairballs, eating parts of toys that have string, etc etc. It's incredibly common.

Hell, cats can vomit with a little blood and end up being fine (should still take them for a check up to be sure!!!) One of mine rarely pukes, but always has blood when he does. Scared the fuck out of us the first few times, docs found nothing. He'd get super woozy and fall over after too. We figured out he was trying to hold it in so hard it burst a vessel in his stomach, and just like people, certain cats can get sisoriented from fluid displacement in the ear, similar to some humans, when they puke.

Get a fountain water dish and set that up, cats don't drink water naturally in the wild very often, and when they do, it isn't stagnent like in a bowl. 90% of their water comes from the blood of prey, and the other 10% comes from free flowing water. Since he's throwing up a bit more than you're comfortable with, switch to wet food for a little and have that running water to keep up his hydration.

Last night I prayed over him before bed while petting him and he started to get more active. He has been eating his treats, made (a tiny bit of) pee-litter, and I saw him lap a little bit of water from his fountain, so I'm holding off taking him to the out-of-town vet to take him to the in-town vet tomorrow.

I'll buy him Meow Mix (I stopped feeding it to him long ago when I was told to switch to Purina, but that's what he originally ate and liked).

I’ve also been letting him sleep on my bed

Normally I kick him out for clawing my flags, but he’s not energetic enough to make trouble with that anyways

He’s mulling around in the open more, now, compared to having laid in his caves and blankets

I didn't thoroughly read the entire thread so I'm not sure if you mentioned it but if your cat's older any changes in food might fuck him up. My cat used to be pretty good with eating anything. There were some foods he didn't like but I could change it up no problem. Since he's gotten old though, any changes to his food, even in the amounts I give him, makes him sick or makes his shit runny and he won't eat very much or at all for a few days afterwards even though he's always been kind of a gluttonous pig of a cat. He'll even try to steal the dog's kibble, which actually doesn't make him sick.

Five ish years

The cat made a poop, went to eat a bit of Iams kibble that I bought and seems to have been drinking water, so I think his bout is basically over. I don't feel a need to cancel work for the vet tomorrow.

I’m going to take the cat in for diabetes.

I smelled him and was pleased at this sweet smell. Get to googling and it says that’s actually not normal or good and it can be a sign of diabetes. Get to reading more, can have weight loss (he’s been perceptibly more bony), rougher coat, vomiting and ensuing lack of appetite during bouts of that. Have NOT seen notably higher thirst or urination. Sweetness is not fruity, though, more like a nice cat odor he’s always had. I’ll have to check that again tomorrow.

It may be nothing, but the cat has always struggled with weight - he has toys and furniture, he doesn’t avail himself of it, I did cut his food to what’s recommended - and I’m worried this may be the issue.
