Today I will be sharing a very simple Dog Enhancement Technique (D.E.T.) that will make your next Hot Dog infinitely better with respect to the following attributes:

• Mouthfeel.
• Flavor.
• Crispyness.
• Crisposity.
• Crustyness.
• Crustilinity.
• Butterfulness.

I call it Cats Dogs.

Step 1: Grab your Dogs and a knife.

Step 2: Score those fuckin Dogs.

Step 3: Get some butter going.

Step 4: Roast the Dogs. medium-high. Turn them around and around. Get the tips crisping. Golden Brown.

Step 5: Remove your Dogs after they become done. They will be succulacious and butterful. You can do it more, or less, depending on your mouth.

Step 6: step 6 is all about Dog Fixing. I chose to make Simpledogs today with some ketchup and mustard but you can do howeve Whatever you Want!

Step 7: MICROWAVE THE WHOLE DOGS FOR 15 SECONDS TO BRING THE BUN/CONDOMENT HEAT UP TO ACCEPTABLE LEVELS. IF YOU EAT COLD CONDIMENTS ON A BURGER OR HOTDOG WITH A ROOM TEMPERATURE BUN I DO NOT WANT TO ASSOCIATE WITH YOU AND PLEASE LEAVE.

That's what I do when I am in the mood for a crispitty crunchitty buttery Dog.

Man, I love your content, but that photo of the sausages frying in a puddle of butter gave me a mild heart attack. You may as well put the stick of butter on the buns and eat it.

I thought the same the first time I tried this a long time ago, but I actually ended up not using enough back then! If you use too little you get a thin crisp that is more like fried spam. So I eventually arrived at a pad of butter that's about two silver half dollars stacked. hotdogs don't seem to absorb butter too efficiently...you can certainly taste it, but it doesn't seep in very deep, just into that top layer. in order to get such a nice crisp and a little bit of butter into the crevasses you kinda need to use a decent blob. And of course you toss the remaining butter out afterward and you can dry them off a little on the paper towel like I did.

An alternative to this would be the grill, but that gives an entirely different flavor. I don't mind Dogs with a slight char but the scored version is just heaven for texture. You get all these crispy little squares and points

This looks pretty good cats, it's been many years since I ate a hotdog at home and probably in general, but I'm sure the next time I do I'll remember that weird thing with slicing the hot dogs and cooking them in a pan.

Maybe it's the kind of thing a person could cook to impress a lady with very simple tastes or something, idk.

it really is just an extremely simple thing but it adds so much texture and flavor to such a (usually) somewhat boring lunch. If you're not in the mood for an extra-savory dog that day though, then just make your dogs regular.

These would be the way to go for chili dogs imo every time, however. The cheese catches in the valleys and it is just so pretty and the extra butter adds just enough extra flavor to each bite.

You can take it even further by making the buns all fancy and pattern-toasted and putting fancy sauces on them that compliment the flavor of the dog once you've experienced it and locked it into your memory. Just try them regular first then experiment with certain high end sauces and you can make what I call "Haute Daugés" get it lol

I'm making this when I get home from work, thanks Cats.

This is how hot dogs look in my country.

They usually served like that and there'll be a bunch of random sauces on the table.( Like bbq, hot sauce, tartar, corn sauce, cheddar melt, pecorino cheese, etc. ) So you can put even more stuff on top as you like

A dog without at least potato chips and chopped onion on top feels naked to me.

as an actual tip, you can bread them and fry them to make homemade mozzarella sticks (or whatever cheese they converted into stringy-block form)

you can also stick skewers in them this way to eat them like they're a korean street food

hell yes I love overloaded Everything Dogs with a big old brioche bun or some special toasted sweet dough bun. I used to love James Coney Island cheese fries as a kid in the 90's when they still made good stuff, but had all but written them off these days after having some really bad cheese fries there. But then, I found their Empire Dog was really fucking good and had one of the best buns. They do good pretzel dogs too. YUM

I’ll have to test this (or at least the scoring/butter sautéing portion of it) out at some point, Five Guys does something similar to their dogs where they butterfly the dogs before grilling ’em. As for the condiment and bun I have my own methods for getting those warmed (putting the condiments into a heat-safe container and putting ‘em into freshly boiled water for a bit and the bun gets the wrung-out wet towel+microwave method).
