I have four dogs and four cats and they're all very swell. It's hard to pick one species over the other since they each have their pros and cons. (:_(
Do you actually own corgis?

Neither will a dog if you give it treats.

Cats will kill vermin
So do dogs, and they'll actually follow directions. Cats don't give a shit and will ignore you. A properly trained dog will be obedient.

If a dog sees somebody attacking you, I doubt the dog will back down, even if the assailants "give it treats".

Cats will follow directions though. It just depends on your tone and body language.

Depends on the dog. I've heard that more than once a dog will think a mugging is just two humans playing with each other and other than bark occasionally, because it doesn't want to be left out of the fun, won't do much.

Birds

they'll eat your rodents and bugs while being adorable fluffers; Palm Cockatoos are actually intelligent enough to use sticks to drum on trees and African Grey Parrots have the emotional/mental capacities of 5 year-old humans. Birbs = best

Cats are cool and all, but a cat isn't likely to to defend you with its life like a dog would.
my cat attacked a big dog once because she thought it was gonna attack me and she eats spiders that get next to my bed.
Got 5 out of all of them. She's my favorite because I raised her as a baby and we share a birthday.

My rat loves me too.

I was never a fan of dogs. I had a bad experience with a dog getting rough with me when I was a kid. I still get really uneasy around them to this day, even little ones.

I fell in love with cats while dating my girlfriend in high school. Her cats were super chill lap cats, and we ended up adopting one for me our senior year. She's pretty much my entire world (the cat). Greets me at the door every time I come home, sleeps with me, chills out and watches TV with me. The whole nine yards.

One of the best things about cats for me is how low maintenance they are relative to dogs. No walking, no bathing, no smell. I can leave my cat alone for a few days if need be if I put out some extra food and water. I hate doing it and I avoid it at all costs, but I have the option at least. Compare that to people who have to go home during their lunch break to let their dogs out, and I just shake my head. What a pain in the ass. My ex's cats would be let out in the morning, chill out in the neighborhood, and then come home at night. In hindsight, I know that this is a terrible practice, but it shows how manageable they are compared to dogs. Also, my cat has never once in the thirteen years I've had her shit or pissed outside her litter box. Never. How people tolerate training their dogs is beyond me.

I can somewhat understand the argument that dog people make about a cat not really "loving" you since they are solitary animals, but I always view obedient dogs as suffering from a form of Stockholm syndrome, only showing affection and following directions because it was beat into them. This is probably a naive view of it, again I don't know much about dogs, but whatever.

Of course there are always exceptions, but dogs are a rule are much more likely to protect.

Depends on the cat, depends on the dog. I love both in general.

Both! They both have their pros and cons, with cats being less clingy and dogs being more open with and to affection.

If dogs didn't bark, I could possibly forgive the extremely high maintenance, the destroyed furniture, and the smell.

But they do, so cats.

I love both tbh. They're so fundamentally different that comparing them really isn't fair.

I love my cat and he's adorable as shit but the jumpy fucker probably wouldn't have my back if my life was in danger. And equally so, a dog isn't as low-maintenance as a cat is and can cause all kinds of trouble if left alone for too long. That's only just a mild example of the pros and cons between them as there's enough to fill a book. Both are great and both have their perks and flaws. And both are fluffy adorable fucks that deserve all the treats.
