I was trying to use this while the preview was disabled and it's usable without one but are there any good (or even just barebones-but-adequate) free RSS readers people recommend? I tried a couple and they all had dealbreaking issues

I'm using yarr which definitely fits the "barebones-but-adequate" category. It's ridiculous how many rss readers are insane levels of spyware or demand you make an account or other bullshit like this, but this is a standalone you run locally and connect to with your browser.

Perfect, that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Running a little local server is fine, when I built my PC I overbuilt it so I could run a few game servers on it and I haven't been doing that for the last year or so so I've got hardware to spare

Amen. The closest one I could find that was usable without any account/subscription was the feedly one but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get it to display the entire post if the post was longer than like ten words
