I feel the opposite way. One of the big strengths of the manga is how it can storyboard out the action and leave so much of it up to the reader's imagination. Fujimoto is clearly a movie buff and he knows how to make the strong implication of action without necessarily depicting all of it; he shows just enough visually to give a strong feeling of chaos while letting the "less is more" principle work in his favor. With the anime, OTOH, it'll largely hinge on how MAPPA chooses to fill in the blanks.No they definitely were, but it's a series that was always going to work better as an anime so maybe it'll be justified retroactively.
