It is a sequel.

Humanity knows who Chainsaw Man is and he has his own marketing material (the Chainsaw Man bun the girl is eating). So it is after Denji got Chainsaw Man famous by hunting devils in part 1.


As for how far in the future after the original? No idea. But I do not think it is far. Possibly happening right after or a couple months after part 1 ended if I were to guess.

Given that he's in high school, I would say at most 2 or 3 years assuming they don't make some new rule about devil hybrids not aging. At least, I assume this is going to be a high school arc for him going off the end of the first arc.

How widespread was knowledge of demons in Part 1? I don’t remember the public knowing much about them until the very end, but then again we didn’t see much from the “average Joe” side of things since it was mainly following Denji.

I was under the impression that demons were pretty much public knowledge - where even if most regular people probably didn’t encounter demons on a regular basis, their existence wasn’t something that was actively hidden.

E: according to the wiki, the Gun Devil was originally empowered specifically by the fact that everyone bought guns as defense against devils… so it certainly seems like everyone knows that devils exist, and that the danger they pose is significant enough that normal people wanted to invest in anti-devil defenses.

I don't know why, but the first few pages made me afraid this was going to go the cliche route of character X hates Y, befriends Z before finding out they're Y with Makita and Denji.

I should have had more faith in Fujimoto than that, seems like a very interesting setup.

Why does War Devil look like one of the Muppets fucked a Furby?

Had no idea the concepts Pochita destroyed could be brought back. I thought part 1 said they were erased from reality, including retroactively, and I took that to be permanent.

Did Hiroshima and Nagasaki get nuked in the history of Chainsawman, and if erasing Nuclear Weapons undid that, would bringing it back make those events have happened again?

I like how it speedran 5 volumes of hs drama manga in a single chapter to spare us a drawn out origin for the new protag. Don't bore us, get to the chorus!

I mean, Pochita looks like a plushie with a[ blade in it, so…

As evident by the Control Devil, demons seem to be able to remember when others are erased from reality, since she listed off a bunch of stuff to that one guy. So the missing to “make ChainsawMan cough up a Devil he ate” may be less a possibile thing and more a “you killed someone close to me, and if there’s even a chance to get them back by kicking the shit out of you, I’m gonna do it.” kinda thing. /SPOILER]

I don't think they ever really explain where devils come from (presumably it's like American Gods or something) but all devils represent a concept, and fear of that concept makes them stronger. In the gun devils case they basically attempted to ban guns world wide to weaken him. Out of sight out of mind.

Well if we take what she said literally, then that has to be the case.
But also remember there was that weirdness during the final(ish) fight of part 1.

So not everything he eats definitely goes away.
Also this fight has a lot of previously dead people in it. Sword Devil, Bomb Girl, eye-patch lesbian etc.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how they do the whole thing with summoning of the Gun Devil in the anime
