Chainsaw Man - Peak Fiction in the making

Honestly at this point im convinced Kishibe is dead or gone, while kobeni has being forgetten by fujimoto just as toriyama forgot about launch
 
I think the head is fake or at least not the real Nayuta because Asa/Yoru don’t have their full memories of the apartment yet, Nayuta’s beauty mark is missing, and there’s a weird vein on her face. Plus the Fire Devil can alter appearances along with a few other devils so it is possible. But next chapter could clear it up.

Kishibe is probably in the background and the guy Yoshida is likely working for. He’s probably on the run from Public Safety after the failure of his Anti-Makima squad.

Kobeni is probably just out there somewhere, only cause it’s hard to say she’s forgotten when her brother is in the main cast.

Personally I don't buy it cause how would Barem even know what Denji did to Makima?

Though if Nayuta is truly dead, it would be interesting if Denji remembers this

He was present and not actually brainwashed during the fight. That covers at least part of it.
 
Chainsawman feels weird. I don't want to say I've been gyped but its hard to describe my thoughts on it. Its not bad, I wouldn't even call it mid. Its okay. Above average even, but I don't know if I've just been the victim of a practical joke or if I'm missing something.

Everyone and their mother everywhere has been hyping it up as a transcendental masterpiece of true kinematic peak fiction that would make Scorsese cry and like... its okay. Its fine. Alright even.

Denji is really well writen, he's funny and likable, with believable quirks and character development that feels natural and earned, somehow fujomoto managed to make all the references to him desperately wanting titties and sex feel tragic instead of playing for laughs, and most of the cast (barring standouts like power) is alright.

But the pacing in general feels completely schizophrenic, randomly accelerating at breakneck pace sometimes and randomly screeching to a halt others. A ton of shit happens in the first 10 chapters, then it grinds to a complete halt for the next 70 with little to no plot progression, and then it picks back up in the last 10 at blazing pace.

Part 2 feels better paced plot wise, but incredibly rushed character wise as well because for the plot to move at a reanable pace the characters have to also accelerate.

I feel like there's a good story somewhere in this but it needs a rewite/editor to fix the pacing. I haven't seen the anime so iduno, maybe it feels better there, but the manga heavily oscillated between being a drag to read and desperately wanting to read just one more page.

I also dislike how latter on it start playing fast and lose with fiends and devils and CSM's powers. Like why can he clone himself and rip out his own heart, why does the fire devil let you turn into chainsawman and like, is nayuta a devil or a fiend? Why does she look human if she just incarnated? And she's too weak/young to control more than 3 humans at the same time, but strong enough to manipulate the true justice devil's mind to change his taste?

Outside the core cast I've absolutely been having trouble keeping up with all the new characters.

I'm 50/50 on the poor explanation of how devils work. Part of me thinks it works with the underlying theme of devils being this fantastical dangerous power that humans are trying to harness without fully understanding how it works, but half of me thinks Fujimoto is just not great at explaining the internal mechanics of his universe. Or maybe he just doesn't care beyond "chainsaws cool, man with chainsaws eating demons is even cooler".

Parts 1 and 2 feel like different compromises. Part 1 massively compromised the pacing of the plot to develop characters, while part 2 compromised the characters (to a lesser extent) by actually having a more cohesive plot structure and story advancement.

I think its important to have a coherent power set because it lends weight to the stakes on screen, characters pulling new powers out of their asses tends to deflate a lot of tension, even in a character based story.

Most of this stuff is explained. In order:

-That's a Hybrid power, not unique to Pochita. They stole the move from Reze.
-Fire devil thing isn't explained, but its' a primal so of course it's busted.
-The Horsemen are naturally devils that can pass as human.
-Her mind control is pretty much the same as Makima's, though people were scared of "Makima" not "The Control devil." Nayuta's power is gimped because she doesn't have the same reputation, though that's through quantity rather than quality. The restriction of "Whoever she feels superior to" stays.

Also, Fuji wrote a one-shot telling people not to over-analyze it. It's not a masterpiece, it's a guy who can turn into chainsaws that fights demons. He clearly has a rough outline, which he pads with whatever he thinks is awesome this week.

Its a bit annoying when Nayuta can fuck with the very concept of justice itself but 4 normal humans are too much.
