Absolutely agreeing too! It would be entertaining as hell if some of them found out about such a thread and came here to try and defend their precious, totally 100% original creatures from us.

While we're at it why not throw the pokemon fusion communities in there too? They're basically the same as the closed species as it is and just as insane. One group I used to be a part of devolved into an absolute shitshow because people weren't designing their 'mons "correctly" so mods forced peeps to use the designs they made and then shut down the group for an entire week because members thought that the legendary NPC fusion they made could be improved. It would fit right into that sort of thread imo.

What's ironic was I received a message from one of these closed species tards about removing information about the user 'Mocha-Child' from this thread. They already know this thread exists.

God, as someone who draws, if someone sent that dragon ref over to me and asked me to paint it, I would cry tears of blood. Less is more and it's absolutely insane to expect people to copy those exact detailed markings. I could see it working as a one off thing, like a painting for a mtg card, but as a character meant to be drawn lots of times? Owie.

Since some of you seem to get confused when you see the collection of images in refs, those are usually aesthetic boards or mood boards that people make characters off of, sometimes to sell.

In all honesty, the closed species need their own forum. A lot of drama surrounds them and a lot of people will attack others for having 'knockoffs' of the species when the person has never heard of it. You also have people who'll just tweek a species a little and make a whole new one to sell off.

Speaking of closed species, Jollyraptor's creator Simonetry is fucking crazy. Like, thinks they're a plural system and identifies as a fictional characters crazy. AFAIK their main kin is some character from Xaolin Showdown.

The only thing I can think of is Telephone going after every fursuiter that puts a squeaker in their nose because apparently, she feels like she can copy write squeakers. No one can have them except for Telephone I guess.
 
I think the biggest tell-all of a particularly awful closed species community is one that goes after anyone for designing one of the species for any reason.

I can understand certain artists wanting to have some control over their creative property while still wanting to include their friends or followers in it, but putting your work in the public domain of the internet is going to make people outside of your scope want to interact with your work in the long run.

The best solution is just allow non-canon characters and tell your friends and followers not to bother people making non-canon characters. If a character is particularly cool then you can welcome them into the canon later as a cameo or something, but completely banning people just for wanting to draw horny furry art and/or making their own OCs is going to breed nothing but contempt in the long run.

Seriously, the last two are (mostly) well-drawn, but it's so hard to see the characters on those backgrounds, it doesn't help make a good reference.
