I have the same problem with that guy Pang or Wang or whatever he's called, the one with the gross twirled mustache that people seem to like. I used to watch his old stuff with a preference for the infomercial dubs. I still listen to that podcast he does to kill time at work. Its got its moments and some times a decent guest. Though you do hear how brain dead he can be, unless that less than zero brain activity Australian guy pipes up to waste oxygen on a retarded topic, not understand simple things, or give a shitty take.

Glad to see he's gotten a thread, having first subbed to him around 2011-12 and watching him slowly go downhill over the years has been a massive bummer. I've said all this before in other threads in the past but his original gameplay videos were funny as shit and a breath of fresh air back in the early LP scene, when it was everyone doing their best to copy PewDiePie and be as loud as possible and over the top. Around 2015 is when he started doing more commentary videos after his face reveal is when the cracks started to form, this was also the same time he started pocketing the money he made from his channel (he originally donated all of it to charity because I assume he was a rich kid and was getting free bux from his parents, but that must have dried up, and all the charities he donated to later turned out to be scams) and went full grifter mode, making videos on fucking anything, like yea we totally needed a video about your basic bitch opinion on some random tweet from a literal who for 5-10 minutes.

I finally unsubbed in 2020 when he spammed the ever living shit out of Among Us and was doing shit like collabing with AOC and Hasan Piker, and doing a charity stream for BLM during the summer of love, all while mocking anyone who opposed mask mandates and lockdowns. It's also funny to see him constantly shit on Reddit and act like he's better than them when he's Reddit personified and has the most basic liberal takes on anything. I think that if Charlie did find this thread by Kaya bringing it up, he'll probably dismiss it. He doesn't seem to be the type to be seriously capable of self-reflection - at least when it comes to his publicly-available media. He seems to heavily favor knee-jerk reactions rather than taking the time to absorb genuine critique and use said critique to improve his videos' quality. It would be pretty funny if he live-reacted to the thread, though.

I find Charlie to be akin to other reaction YouTubers such as YongYea, who basically read off of news articles and pad out the video time with their own superficial opinions. Whereas YongYea focuses mainly on video games, Charlie is a DramaTuber focusing on YouTube or Reddit stuff. I could say that Mutahar/SomeOrdinaryGamers falls sort of within the same vein as Charlie in terms of DramaTubing, but SoG is actually pretty entertaining and self-aware.

I watched his 'classic' videos and he seemed a lot funnier then (maybe because he would throw in a lot of random swear words)

In his older videos, he didn't treat YouTube seriously. The most invested he was in YouTube back then was when he was competing with another person for the top speed-running leaderboard position for some obscure game. His older video game playstyles was him basically fucking around, mocking shitty design choices or overused game mechanics like QTE prompts, and breaking the game in the dumbest way possible. For instance, he got stuck in another NPC because he crouched and tried to sniff said NPC's asshole in Advanced Warfare.

His profanity-laden monotone voice, malapropisms, and dry sense of humor was different from everyone doing loud, over-enthusiastic voices and family-friendly content - which made him stand out quite noticeably. He wasn't facecamming like other YouTubers that were coming onto the scene or laden with controversy like Logan Paul filming dead people or people getting offended by PewDiePie saying "nigger". People found Charlie's video style refreshing.

At least Charlie's not as painfully unfunny as iDubbz, though. ...Yet.

I think both of them (and most other big streamers) started off thinking "Okay I can make money from just talking I just need to act "NICE"" and then they start to legitimately believe in whatever "nice" at the moment is.

My opinion of Penguinz0 has definitely gone down in the past few years. The first video I watched of his was the Halo Reach forklift one, and he consistently made entertaining content for years after that. Most of his youtube content nowadays consists of stream highlights, lukewarm drama takes, or eating shitty fast food and (surprisingly) ranking it at shitty.

To anyone who still watches his videos, do you notice how he randomly goes off on chat for no reason? He'll read a chat message that says something against the grain and he'll just rag on them for like a couple minutes straight, and whoever edits these videos always includes these tangents. It just makes him look petty, I don't see the appeal.

This isn't uncommon in alot of streamers, 90% of a stream is dead air so they have to fill it with something, and there is always someone being retarded in chat, plus anyone who streams for several hours a day every day is going to be a touch insane and have a lack of normal people skills.

His videos like the prison gameplay, or the one with the extreme bootleg Disney characters were hilarious.

Now he just coasts on his name and makes the bare minimum, laziest content he can. His takes on Twitter/Elon have been a mix of copium and tier 10 fart huffing. He looks to be an emerging cow, because he’s at that stage where he thinks once he declares something over, it’s over.

I think what highlights his ignorance is the fact he’ll shit on Reddit whenever he has to bring it up, yet he gets video ideas, memes, jokes, community, etc. from the very site he disavows. It’s emblematic of the moral grandstanding I find grating, which flares up whenever he talks about a semi-sensitive subject.

Also, very personal grievance, but I find it lame how all his jokes went from kinda funny deadpan to “It’s like in an anime/video game when…”. I think that shit is just cringey and gay.

Everyone inevitably becomes a lolcow when every time you find someone on the internet boring and they don't quietly go away you suddenly decide they're a lolcow. He is at his worst boring and vanilla. I feel like we should have some kind of checklist for 'what makes a cow' posted prominently somewhere to end this constant cycle of 'random internet person isn't making content I like anymore, they must be a cow' and 'random internet person did something cringe or got upset, they must be a cow'. I feel like 'you can milk them for entertainment' should rule out 'people I find boring on the internet' but here we are.

Rambling about the definition of lolcow aside, he is not one at this moment. A lolcalf, perhaps, as he keeps dipping his toes into drama and this inevitably leads to him getting himself involved in drama. I'm neutral on him as a content creator. He's sometimes funny, often bland, but that's how I feel about all of his time on YT. I think people just got the impression he was funnier in his gameplay videos because most people only watched his 'highlight reel' clips, and not the boring rambling between those. People get way too invested in being angry and offended over absolutely milquetoast behavior from an absolutely milquetoast dude.

That said, you're missing some era of drama he had where he got involved in cancelling some trollish youtube persona and spread a bunch of false information about the guy. I know someone who gets all pissy every time someone bring him up because of this.
