Charlie / penguinz0 / moistcr1tikal - Angry and bigtime Youtuber and Twitch Stream, going off rails

His hair looks fucking awful. Seriously, he looked fine with the short hair.
Why did he suddenly decide he wanted to look like a degenerate homeless man?
I watched him on and off when he had short hair. Aside from other legit reasons, I stopped clicking on his videos when he started growing his hair out. I just couldn't be brought to watch any of them with that hair.

Anyone that is a 'fan' of this guy in current day is a faggot as far as I'm concerned.

He had some banger vids back in the day, and I'll respect the guy for absolutely riding on the react grift when it was big and raking in money from even bigger suckers, but overall he's absolutely the blandest, unfunniest dude going and it baffles me that he's basically the big man on YouTube atm.

Better than Ethan Klein being up there, but still.

I don't know why everyone's MATI at him in this thread, so far I've seen people seething over him laughing at anti-maskers and playing among us with AOC. Just because he doesn't align with your extreme republiQan views doesn't make him a lolcow.
This comment's supposed to be ironic, right?

Edit: Read through the rest, saw the answer was "yeah," but, fuck it, I'm going to go ahead and admit that the politics shit did it for me.
The 3 uploads per day shit was tolerable, since I learned that any video titled some generic crap like "we need to talk" was going to be garbage. The constant shit of just throwing around profanity I could accept as filler. But the politics shit seeped into his other vids too outside of the immediately-skipable grifting, and I don't want to be told what to think my some millionaire with a dildo collection pretending to be one of the unwashed masses.

It's a disconnect. You can't be edgy while spouting the most establishment-shilled narratives out there and gaming with politicians.

Even if I agreed with his corporate lukewarm takes, name one channel that went political and became better for it. It's a desperate power bid in order to fill an audience with zealots who accept anything that validates their shallow bullshit.

And anyone who does this whole "reddit sucks (but I still use it iroooooonically) xD" shit needs to undergo severe testicular contortion.

The Critical Guide to Youtube Views

1. wait until consensus is formed on controversial topic
2. create video voicing support for consensus
3. if no consesnsus formed, sit on fence
4. (only for experts) you say "Nah man, it's complicated".

But this is a pretty good summary of Charlies basic bitch takes on most shit. Sometimes he gets it right because some shit is just obvious, other he comes off as a complete airhead.

He did it with Twitter too. He went on and on about how it was one of the most cancerous places online (true), but when Elon bought it, suddenly it’s cancer now and not really before.

It always was, why rewrite history so fresh it can’t even be called history?

5. Get your opinions on Reddit and Twitter (mostly Reddit) and think that they represent the majority of the public opinion when compared to real people who don’t use or consume social media

After the face reveal Critikal just became a poor man's Keemstar. Not that Keem's any less of a faggot than Charlie, but it's the fact that Charlie's entire thing, his one and only motif, is just emulating Keemstar that actually makes him worse. That and he doesn't have any of Keem's overblown retarded persona to laugh at, it's just dry, boring, monotone "hey guys poopy penis poopy fuck ass ball sex youtube drama alright seeya" over and over and over again. He had a good sense of humor before the face reveal, and he seemed charismatic when he just played games and made dumb, funny commentary rather than going on an endless ego trip and larping as a drama commentator. He's not charming, he's not insightful, and worst of all, he's just not funny.

It's such a blatant attempt at getting fans by adapting the [popular opinion] too. A few years back a lot of his content was dedicated to making fun of lefties and soyboys. He doesn't believe anything either way, he just wants clicks.

This is what fucking pisses me off about the internet these days. So many people do this and they do it because it works. It kinda blows seeing this place where every click felt like it was some new crazy journey turn into the most homogenized land of grifters I've ever seen.

And it's impossible to escape this shit now, becasuse no matter where you turn, someone is bound to be spouting some inane trivia or repeating some opinion they heard. Not to mention that the whole mindset of "I gotta become the most popular and get the most clicks/views by any means necessary" permeates itself into the popular culture and turns everyone into mini-wannabe-Charlies. Fucking sad and lame.

-Or its because of PR agencies and other private interests behind the scenes controlling cultural narratives while banning or suppressing most other small channels and startups. hence why it seems like these astroturfing faggots are the only humans on the planet when they really are not.

Its no secret that Youtube allows these agencies to play god on that platform while abiding to a different set of rules and force people to only see their videos while otherwise genuine talent gets buried or driven off through unfair bans. Like most of the drama surrounding the platform over the last decade hardcore.

Youtube content would be better if they got rid of ads entirely (and also went back to 2015 or earlier TOS implementation/fixed their broken copyright system that allows people to copyright strike stuff without needing to prove it's even theirs) .

I want to see content made by people who are passionate about what they are making not about getting money out of it and schizos.

This would mean YouTube is no longer a place to build a career/income but it would still work as a platform for artists and creatives to get their start and build an audience.

The rise of these no-energy commentary channels like prenguinz0 is the end result of banning anything edgy and people only putting out videos to try to get money from ad views. Everything is so dull now.

I don't think Charlie is "passionate" about any of this he just knows 'trending topic = views' and 'boring middle of the road take = monetizable'.
I've already stated my take on Critikal, but this is just a dumb take. Youtube does need to fix their copyright system - it's better than it used to be, where instances of copyrighted material gave you strikes, but they implemented their new system so lazily that only the top most influential youtubers can appeal copyright flags because they're the only ones who can go to Youtube directly and get around the broken and useless appeal system. That said, removing monetization entirely is not in any way the fix you think it is. You look back at 2012 and earlier era Youtube with rose colored glasses probably because you were a child at the time, but Youtube in that era was outright garbage. The majority of its content was zero effort vlogs where people sat in front of the computer and literally just talked about their day. Anything that required any real time investment was made by children and moochers who don't need to worry about making money, and the budget for Youtube videos was generally 'nothing', because it was impossible to get your investment back from them. You don't get 'people who are truly passionate about what they make' when you don't pay them for their work. You get 'people who can afford not to make any money and waste their time making videos for nothing more than internet clout'. Youtube's problem is not that it pays its creators now, it's that Youtube/Google/Susan desires to be 'the new television', because that's incredibly lucrative and Google desires an absolute monopoly on all forms of information distribution. YT channels degenerate into no-energy commentary videos, ban all the edgy content, and become boring trending topic rehashes because YT itself discourages any content that isn't either the above or content created by "real networks" (all the excessive rules about monetization and content never applies to things like CNN's YT channels).

I'd argue if you really want to fix Youtube, you need to buy it back from Google and fire Susan so you can refocus Youtube into what its namesake hearkens to - "content made by and for you" - and away from what it's become, which is "please notice me television and movie industry senpais, look how well I fit in!". Ironically, this would be the best choice not just for creators, but for Youtube itself, given that despite all of Youtube's effort these industries still look at Youtube with contempt.
