I agree, but, at the risk of repeating myself yet again, these mobs are performative. The protests are the new middle-class way to spend time, get asspats, meet people, and gain social cred. They're going to keep protesting because protesting is actually cool; it's the last edgy, counter-cultural activity left to them.

Here's the streams from Seattle right now. 30 minutes into a decent protest, cops already pushed them back and made 2 arrests. Current chants: "de-escalate, de-escalate!" "Listen to black women!"

I haven't watched these in depth, but they seem nowhere near the first level of protests

They don't have any movie theaters, concerts, or trashy 1-person plays to go to. They've bought completely into the Covid death scare, so they won't be going to BBQs or fireworks shows. All the ridiculous articles coming out saying "the protests didn't spike Covid" give them cover to do the one thing they want to do: be stupid in the streets, in front of an applauding crowd, on camera. Always on camera.

This is certainly a legit possibility... but I think the count of true hardcore radicals isn't that high... many of them will go home to mom and dad and have a diet mountain dew and vegan weiner.

Maybe I'm wrong and shit will go sideways this weekend... but.... I'm banking on a quiet weekend.

Seattle and Portland get their kicks from taunting police and getting hit by tear gas. The appeal of the first is obvious. My theory is the second is a mix of thrill-seeking, like skydiving or a rollercoaster where you get banged up a bit but the risk of actual death is low; and some foolproof virtue signalling. "Oh yeah, babe, I'm totally cool with all that. I was out protesting last week, got gassed 3 times!"

(And in a few years, when the revolution continues eating its own: "how can you call me racist? I was protesting for weeks back in 2020! I camped out at CHAZ!")

The core ironic hypocrisy of all these protests against police brutality, is that they know American cops won't actually beat them, brutalize them, or make them disappear like Russian or Chinese cops do. If they know the cops are going to be aggressive but limit their advances, they'll go protest and hope to get a new profile pic on their iPhone.

Removing tents is a political liability in Seattle regardless of the politics around CHOP because removing encampments is "hurting our most vulnerable". It'll be interesting to see what SPD does if campers come back to Cal Anderson. The city typically sits on its hands regarding encampments until they completely take over a park or there's a murder, and CHOP has done both.

That said, the high this weekend is going to be 73, so, if things blow up, it won't be because of the heat.

Yeah I meant the siege with the water balloons was Portland. They just did 60 seconds straight of shooting fireworks directly at the windows and doors of the police station.

Seattle has been pushing that police tape since morning, roughly once an hour they knock it down and the cops come out and put it back up.

Edit: the cops in Portland opened the door to get ready to deploy, and the lying fuckheads outside had the gall to chant "peaceful protest" after a full minute of firing on the building!

Not to doom and gloom but the Commerce Clause has been one of the biggest enemies of the 10th Amendment. It basically grants the government near absolute power to encroach on the rights of states.

Councilwoman of district 3 Sawant who I despite and have gone on a few tophat rants in this thread is the one who grandstands and hates Amazon and capitlism and led the march to Durkan's house. In response, Durkan sperged out and demanded that Council President Lorena Gonzalez kick Sawant off the council, and then gave the go ahead for the cops to put an end to CHAZ. In response to that Gonzalez, who isn't exactly buddies with Sawant but sides with her more often than not, politely has told Durkan to fuck herself, and then there was a second march to Drukan's home along with a march to city hall and more people screaming at cops on the outskirts of the fallen nation formerly known as CHOP.
