So ... I'm a little rusty on my 1930's/1940's history, but isn't this literally, exactly how the Nazis eventually came to power in Germany? Politicians completely abolishing (or defanging) the police and allowing open anarchy on the streets, and law-abiding citizens getting fed up with it and voting in, well, actual Nazis who promised to clean up the streets and crack down on crime?
Am I just on crack, or are we really going down that road?

In bare bones basic. Yes.
In more reality, the central government of Germany squabbled and fell about for a while in the chaos of the collapse of the Kaiser and the sudden change of Germany from a near totalitarian monarchy to a democracy nearly overnight.
In the midst of this vacuum was the Berlin Commune, where they didn't take over a few wimpy city blocks, but took over and ran the entire city (very fucking badly) for a year, before a combination of the Weimar Government, who fucked off to Wiemar and remained there for nearly the whole republic's life finally got in the troops but were also massively backed up by the Freikorps.
Former military veterans who'd been chucked out of a job by the reduction of Germany's Armed Forces basically playing current year boog bois and hunting and fighting commies wherever they might be. These guys were well armed, ingenious (often making their own armoured cars) and sponsored by various remaining Prussian aristocrats.
All this happened right where the capital of the German state was, and all its functions and it had to fuck off to a small town in the middle of the country and sort of scrape together shit from there.
A serious equivalent would be if Trump didn't remove the mobs from D.C and instead fucked off to Morganstown and ordered all of the Pentagon, Treasury and every government department to fuck off there with him because there just wasn't anyone able to defend the capital.
Sprinkle in something like 17 out of the 19 leaders of the Commune being of jewish extract and you set the stage of the Jews in Germany and elsewhere being linked to communists and for causing chaos and that becoming popularised.
On top of that, the Weimar Government couldn't own retaking the capital as the Friekorps did a lot of the heavy work. Trump used the military, the police and the Secret Service, basically every tool as his disposal as POTUS was used, and used effectively.
It might see a snap back in some way from who votes for who, or those purple staters who moved to avoid the inevitable tsunami of homeless shit might find their views moving more red than blue. So long as both parties actually show some distinction in how they deal with this horseshit.
Trump is largely sitting back and letting these idiots burn themselves out here and elsewhere, and its up to the voters what they think come November.
